The hotel was well maintained and had a lovely atmosphere with attractive and characterful décor. Our room in the main hotel was very comfortable, clean and bright with a large and modern en suite. The hotel staff were all very helpful and provided an extra flat sheet to avoid using the duvet in the heatwave, a large room fan and extra water.
The cooked breakfast was very good with friendly service and the the whole environment was relaxing. Tony was in particularly helpful and went out of his way to make our stay great.

We arrived on our boat at the Pike and Eel for dinner, greeted by a nice gentleman offering to take our mooring lines. (First Impressions Count). We had a safe mooring for the evening, a perfect start to the beginning of the weekend.

Beverage and food options fantastic and lots to choose from. The food was fresh scrumptious, coulourful and presented very well. All the staff were friendly and very helpful our expectations exceeded.

The venue recently ascetically renovated by the new family owners, using sustainable materials where possible. I found hidden gems and innovative items in nooks and crannies and all had a story attached. Look out for the Silver bracelet in the Ladies Powder Room the old Fire Extinguisher made into a light fixture.

The grounds are set amongst lush green trees with a small island in the middle where river wildlife forage and pass by. The wedding/function area is set behind the island within the venue gardens with a river view.

The veranda to the restaurant and bar area is looking out onto the River Great Ouse and a grassy area to sit closer to the river, the veranda has automatic blinds to for shade.

The family are passionate about keeping work local and providing a second to none service to their customers.

It is nice to see another family run establishment along the River Great Ouse.

THE POSITIVES
Very spacious car park, nice atmosphere, friendly staff who are all very polite and one especially nice, really tasty food (I had chunky fish finger sandwich with salad and fries and it was really delicious and I highly recommend it, for breakfast I had cereal with oat milk as well as a full English vegetarian breakfast which was perfect). The cutlery was very clean. The bed was comfy, I loved the pillows as they were thin just like what I use at home and my wife used 2 stacked and she liked them too. The TV was a good size and easy to use, the decor was a modern old style. The rooms are very clean. The curtains black out the light really well. The shower is amazing. There are also some games like scrabble and books and toys for kids tucked in the downstairs corner near the reception area and a sitting area there too which I didn't see anybody use but it looked nice.

THE NEGATIVES
The floor in the bathroom for captain seal room needs grouting as about half is missing, the first tile to the bathroom is wobbly and noisy when stepped on, you will hear a noise every time you flush and run water in sink as well as when others do in other rooms. Although it's nice to see the river from the room, you will also see the not so nice things like the air vents on the flat roof but it's certainly not a big deal for me. There were coffee cup stains on the bedside table from a previous guest and the coasters are hidden in trays. There's also a cobweb in the extractor fan, some peeling paint in the bathroom, a little hole in the wall of the bedroom that needs filling in. When I ordered food, they didn't ask if I wanted white or brown bread as it was a choice on the menu and I had to ask myself as staff was leaving, I also had to ask for salt and pepper as it wasn't provided just as waitress was leaving again after coming back with some mayo. These are all very minor things but honestly, this is a really top place to stay in so don't let any of these things deter you will really enjoy your stay, I know I did.

Upon booking for one night as we had a function locally. We arrived at around 6:45pm Location I’m sure in the summer months is wonderful. But felt very dark and dingy in the dark at the back entrance to the hotel.
Upon entering room 11, we were got with a really bad smell, thinking it much just have been an unused room, we unpacked and got on our way out for the evening. We returned to the room about 11:30 pm and the smell was awful, clearly an issue with drains from the bathroom, making it not a pleasant place to sleep. The bathroom felt very unclean with cobwebs and dead ladybirds. Although the sheets were clean on top of the bed was also a dead ladybird and dotted around the room. The kettle didn’t seem to turn its self off ..at boiling . And the walls very very thin and the room next door we could hear them talking from early morning around 7am, so upon an unsettled night we dropped the key at reception and left. I would not recommend room 11 at this property

Dear Guest I would like to offer my sincere apologies for the experience that you had during your recent stay with us. There absolutely should not have been an odour in the bedroom. There was indeed a plumbing problem but unfortunately when the room was serviced earlier in the day, there was no sign of this. It was only after your departure that we became aware of the problem. The room was taken out of operation straight away and the problem resolved. We are so sorry that this spoiled your stay with us and wish that you had spoken to a member of staff. We would of course have moved you to another room and helped you to move your belongings. I appreciate that you were out for the evening and did not wish to be moved late at night on your return. I hope that you will accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience which you suffered. Kind regards

My daughter and son in law myself and husband stayed here for the weekend of our son's wedding which was elsewhere. As we only wanted a place to sleep we went for the basic chalet rooms instead of the main hotel. A huge mistake as you truly get what you pay for!
The chalet area looked a bit run down but on first impression after having to shoulder the door open as warped, room itself looked fresh and clean. On closer inspection things were not too good. Very badly decorated, cobwebs and flies here and there, could do with a good scrub out everywhere as so much grime round skirting boards and windows. Pulled out bed to see if fan was plugged in and could write your name in the dust and dirt under bed. Tea making facilities but only instant coffee, green tea and camomile teabags no proper tea at all. 2 bottles of sparkling water which we don't care for, could have left one still water at least. We asked for ordinary teabags at reception and they gave us some in a plastic drink cup. Next day we found the cleaner in our room late afternoon and after she had gone found our soap, my shower cap and the tea bags we had asked for all gone! Our things had been moved around which I was not happy about but the cobwebs and flies on window ledge still there plus carpet not hoovered. Our daughters room was in the same condition plus her window blinds were not up to standard.
Complained on checkout and received bottle of wine.
We did have breakfast there one morning which although was expensive was very nicely cooked.
A pity as location was lovely next to river Ouse and marina but no way would I return or recommend.

We booked a night with our little dog in tow too and was pleased when we turned up as looked nice and is a cracking location right on the river great Ouse with stunning views for the decking area and beer garden, quite an easy and pleasant check in and we’re showed to our room out the back ,which looked ok 👍🏻, but went to open windows to try to get rid of a few flies 😬 and the curtains were all hanging off one side of curtain pole so how the cleaners missed that we don’t know 🤷‍♂️ but fixed the issue ourselves, then couldn’t get any signal on the tv at all so had to put IPlayer on to at least get live news etc, quite warm in the room and this was only may , and no fan or air con so wouldn’t want to stay here in mid summer 🥵 windows needed cleaning , I’m a painter and decorator so can’t help looking around places I visit, and the painting in our room was shocking 😬 and needs checking over and repainting, probably a days work for a decent painter 👍🏻the bed very small and not comfortable at all, and the worst thing was the paper thin walls between us and our neighbours next door! Not only could hear every word they were saying but also could hear the other persons every word when they were in there phone! That’s a first in a hotel room, also right outside our door was a fire escape door which residents were going in and out of all evening and late on and banging all of the time! Perhaps lock this door after a certain time ? Also right outside our room window there is a loose manhole 🕳️ cover on the driveway which every car seem to drive over and made a loud bang every time! This needs sorting out pronto!!But going back to fire door it still would be able to be used as a fire door if needed when push the bar to open it! So had hardly any sleep at all 😴😬Shower was nice and plenty of tea and coffee etc in room, just didn’t feel it was worth £130 including our dog for £15 add on 🤷‍♂️ especially with no breakfast included not even a continental in room, but on the plus side the staff were friendly and the food was lovely in the bar area 👍🏻 and for the area we were in the value for money on food and drinks wasn’t too bad, nice place to visit for a meal or function etc but won’t be returning to stay over I’m afraid , regards Darren ,helen and Elsie 🐶

We booked into the pike & eel after a long journey, it had been booked well in advance, and was shown to our rooms or should I say tip which were in a wooden hut next to the river just looked like it had been there for ages and just a quick way to make extra cash. As I walked in the room there was a half bottle of cola on the side next to the TV, in the bathroom someone had left there tooth brush & tooth paste on the shelf above the sink, a top from a razor was on the side of the bath and an empty toilet roll holder was behind the pipes on the hand basin, and to top it all someone had left a pair of boxer shorts just discarded in the bed side cabinet.
Also try and save money don't leave your radiator on in the bathroom when its red hot outside ( just an idea)
If we had the energy we would have left and gone somewhere else.
The room its self needs painting as whoever did it before must have taken off more paint than was put on, I could have done a better job & I'm rubbish at painting !!!!
The photos of the rooms on the website do not look anything like the ones we stayed in as the ones on the web are for the main hotel which I must say looked good.
We did have a meal and breakfast at the hotel the waiting staff were very friendly.
Also the price for breakfast was quite expensive as all I had was cereal and some scrambled eggs and I was still charged £12.50 which is the price of the set menu this could do with re-evaluating.

But for the price I would NOT recommend this place to stay
Well over priced for what you get !!!!!!!!
Room 7
Also my son and his partner were in room 11 and the people next door (women) were up till all hours screaming and shouting they had obviously had had a couple of wine gums not very considerate. !!!!

Just had 2 nights stay. The setting for this place is beautiful by the marina. They've tried really hard to make the rooms nice and have clearly not long been refurbished. The breakfast was very good. The bed squeaked really badly. There was no door between the bathroom and the bedroom and the walls between the rooms were very thin and you could hear into the next room. The firedoor in the corridor definitely needs an oiling, it squealed every time someone went through it and the door closer noisily banged it shut. The room was very noisy from the bar below and we were kept awake by the noise from the customers leaving. We could even hear foot steps over the wooden bar floor. It definitely needed some sound proofing. The waste water pumped through pipes on top of the flat roof the bedroom window looked out onto and water was spurting out of holes in the pipework onto the flat roof under our window. We asked for more tea bags and we were given a handful only for them to be removed the following morning when the housekeeper came in. Strangely she stole the teabags but failed to make the bed! Overall disappointing. The room was sold as "executive en suite" sorry to say it was nothing like an executive suite. We won't be staying there again.

So many positives, but a few improvement opportunities. We were looking for an 80th birthday venue, the brief being great food, looking over a river and a nice ambiance somewhere near Cambridge. The initial impressions were average. It just looks a little haphazard on arrival and tricky to ascertain the parking etiquette or to know where the entrance is.. But then the view of the river is excellent. The bar staff were wonderfully attentive, directing us to the dining area and we were seated quickly by the waiter. The menu was OK, not huge but something would suit most. Beautiful view of the river. We only had a main each. My wife had the cod and chips. The cod was beautifully cooked but the batter lacked crunch and seasoning. It was a little soggy, sadly. The tartar sauce felt shop bought, rather than home made. It was OK, but not amazing. I had the Tuscan Fish Stew with garlic mash. Haddock, prawns and mussels were great. Calamari a bit chewy and the mash a little over seasoned.. it was OK. When presented, it lacked in sauce but without prompt, a jug of sauce arrived (thumbs up) and ultimately, I ate it all. In summary, the location is amazing as are the staff. But there is something lacking in the pride of the surroundings and the food is just short of going from OK to really good.

We went to the pike and eel for Christmas Day as a table of 14 at 1:30pm. I can’t tell you enough how great our experience was. From the attitude of the staff to the food itself and the fact we were still made to feel welcome still at 5:30pm which from past experiences on Xmas day you are made to feel you have to leave. Definitely the best Xmas day meal out ever and we will definitely be returning this year.
