My husband and I stayed for 5 nights in Valletta and what a fantastic stay we had at the hotel. It was like staying in an interior designers home. The attention to detail and style of the rooms were stunning. Dorothy was super friendly and kind even staying up till the early hours to greet us after our flight was delayed. Any questions we asked she was so helpful with. We stayed in the Elizabeth room (Queen Elizabeth), which was great being from the UK! Location wise it’s perfect. Lots of bars, restaurants & shopping nearby. The ferry port to catch a boat to Gozo or the Three Cities is just a 5-10 min walk away. Also the bus station again is 5-10 min walk from where you can catch a bus to Medina or any parts of the island. I can’t recommend it highly enough (ps Charlie I will get you to do my interior design if I win the lottery!!).…
Visiting Malta is always a pleasure due to the relaxed pace of life, friendly locals and beautiful scenery, history and culture. I was taking my sister for her visit to the island and wanted to pick a hotel that was unique and central. Reading the positive reviews posted by other guests about the Valletta Lucente Guesthouse doesn't really prepare for the full impact of this charming property. It's not a five star hotel so if you are expected room service, multi media channels, fully stocked mini bars then look away - but if you want a five star relaxing experience in a lovingly restored Maltese property and being made to feel welcome with local insight and recommendations then this is definitely for you! The end of result of their labour of love restoration project is a beautifully chic and uniquely decorated oasis perfectly located on St Lucia Street There's nothing to dislike but if was going to offer any suggestions it would be to inject more of Malta into the buffet breakfast - so the guests can feel as though they are enjoying Malta through the food too - so perhaps some pastizzi, ricotta zeppoli to join the frittata, mushrooms, jams and breads.…
My husband and I recently stayed at the Valletta Lucente and had a great experience. Charlie was a wonderful host - very friendly and accommodating. The location was great too! Our room was very charming and the AC worked very well.
A lovely place to stay in Malta. You're staying in the centre of Valetta with the most lovely owners you can wish. We arrived at midnight without any problem and just a big smile! We definitely come back!
The Valletta Lucente is truly a the product of true love, devotion and very hard work to create an amazing piece of living art. I was very privileged to have stayed in the Aurora suite on the third floor overlooking the inner courtyard. Even though I spent a week there I was still finding amazing quirky little touches in the room and as for the bed I think its the best bed I've ever slept in. Even though my room was on the third floor it was an easy climb up the stairs but for those days when you've walked your feet off there is a cute little lift but please at least once use the stairs to admire all the objects adorning the walls and landings, you will not be disappointed. Breakfast was excellent, everything was homemade and beautifully presented. Dorothy, Charles and their small team of staff work extremely hard to make your stay amazing and for me my stay went above and beyond what I was expecting…
Stayed five nights at the Valletta Lucente (18th May to 23rd May 2022). Charles and Dorothy made us very welcome (although we didn't actually meet Charles until our final day as he was away). Upon arrival we were checked in, paid the hotel cost, and Dorothy gave us a map of Valletta and kindly showed us on the map where the main tourist sightseeing places were, how to get there, etc. Our room (the Marienne) was on the second floor with the window overlooking St Lucia's street. St Lucia's street is pedestrian only and therefore closed to traffic. If you wish to get a Taxi/Bolt you need to walk out of the hotel, turning right and walk about 30 metres downhill to the road. We called a Bolt taxi from there a couple of times and on each occasion the Bolt taxi turned up in quick time. The Marienne room was very big. More like staying in an apartment (rather than a hotel) with a bedroom area, a lounge area and an extra large bathroom with walk-in shower. We really liked out room. Charles and Dorothy left some flowers in the room to welcome us, with a note saying that they hoped we enjoy our stay, etc. Probably something they do for all of their guests but a nice touch and very much appreciated (don't think we have had this at any other hotel). The area around the Valletta Lucente seemed perfectly safe and there are lots of bars/restaurants nearby so we never went hungry/thirsty. This being the case it can be a little noisy at times but, for us, the noise never went on too late. Midnight at the very latest, however things generally quietened down (noise wise) before 10pm, although still plenty of people about at this time. Be advised that St Lucia Street is located on a fairly steep hill so you need a little bit of energy to walk uphill, but plain sailing on the return walk. Most of the sightseeing attractions of Valletta are nearby and within walking distance so the perfect location for this sort of holiday. If I have one minor gripe it was that there are no safe in the room. That said, Charles and Dorothy were happy to put our passports, etc in their own hotel safe. It just meant that we had to ask Dorothy/Charles if we needed to access our valuables at any time. But they were always happy to assist. We had a great time in Valetta (and indeed Malta generally). Much of this was due to our stay at the Valetta Lucente and the warm welcome from Dorothy and Charles.…
The location was great: right in the historic heart of Valetta. Once we met the co-owners, full payment was requested on check-in. The male owner seemed friendly enough, his wife less so. The room was adequate in terms of size and facilities, but it was not particularly clean. The bedding was worn and the sheets had a greasy feel to them. The bathroom towels were aged and closer inspection revealed that the room is cleaned with just a cursory wipe of obvious surfaces. The biggest issue was the noise. And it was so so noisy at times that we could not sleep. We had the only room on the ground floor - Lunjatz I think it is called. Aside from the club next door pounding out an incessant nighttime beat, all noise from the street carries through as the doors at the front are always left open. Even on our second night, the owners (whose ceramics shop is part of the reception) had a launch party for some new ceramics! We couldn't believe how inconsiderate this was! As we couldn't sleep, I got dressed and went down to ask the male owner to reduce his noise - he boomed throughout our stay and never stopped talking loudly to passersby and visitors to his shop. Despite knowing that it disturbed us. The night before our return flight, I had to speak to him again. Both times, excuses but no apologies. If you value sleep, book elsewhere. We loved Malta; the only negative was this hotel.…
The rooms are more akin to small apartments, with lovely, eclectic decor and top notch facilities. The breakfast spread is truly wonderful whilst the hotel is so central that literally anywhere in Valletta is no further away than 5 minutes on foot. Charles and Dorothy, Lucente's owner/managers, are truly amazing people. Friendly doesn't even begin to describe them. They will gladly go out of their way to help out and ensure that every single one of your needs is catered for. I would have thought that a week's stay might have been a tad long, but it passed by in a flash, mostly because it felt so much like being at home and with family. I can't wait to return, and in a hurry. Thank you once again, Dorothy and Charles, for your kindness, efficiency and for your wonderful ways!…
We had the best stay at Valletta Lucente! My expectations were high but were easily matched…. Charles and Dorothy are wonderful hosts and have created a unique environment with beautiful objects and fabulous decoration at every turn. We stayed in the wonderful Layla penthouse which has a patio and an upstairs terrace which has the most fantastic views of the Grand Harbour and the Three Cities. The room is very comfortable- we slept well despite the church bells. Perhaps bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper! Valletta Lucente is perfectly situated in a pretty street very near Merchants Street with its good restaurants and bars. And it is very well placed for all the delights and attractions of Valletta. Breakfast here is a treat -with savoury and sweet goodies made by Charles. And some great conversation! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and intend to return!…
We had a wonderful stay at Valletta Lucente. A beautifully decorated boutique hotel in the heart of Valletta. The hosts are super friendly and helpful. Homemade breakfast was scrumptious! We will be back for another visit for sure.
