At first the location of the hotel was a concern when we stopped outside, but it's actually in a great spot. Nice area, plenty of shopping, and near the the tourist attractions. Just 10 minutes from Valetta by ferry, a 20 minute walk (3 minutes on the bus) to the beautiful St Julian's Bay and close to where all the main tour ferries and busses operated. Staff were very friendly; particularly Ken on the front desk who looked after us very well and sent a bottle of wine when he overheard that it was my wife's birthday. On small criticism - the pool on the roof was very cold and would have been better if it was heated.
Overall good. Staff is very friendly. Rooms, facilities, restaurants are overall quite ok. To my taste everything is little bit geared a bit too much towards the mass market. As I prefer boutique style hotels with a higher degree of sophistication, 4 stars is as high as i can go on this one. But no complaints.
We enjoyed a relaxing week at the hotel. Everything was great... room, food etc. All staff were very friendly and they saw to all our needs. Special thanks to Dorianne and Eva. We will definitely return back! Michael & Lourdes
Thanks to Ms. Dorianne Camilleri's special consideration, I could spend my wonderful leave in Malta. The Hotel offered me the best accommodation and facilities for 74 nights. May God bless all of the staff of the Hotel AX The Palace.
We stayed at the AX The Palace for one week. It is nice located in the city center of Sliema. The hotel is quite big and has a nice lobby, 2 pools (indoor and outdoor), a gym and 4 restaurants. The check-in and check-out were fast and professional. Unfortunately value for money is very bad because of the service and the room. We stayed in a Deluxe Room which is quite big. Our room was on the 4th floor which is the minimum for a nice unobstructed view of La Valetta. I would advice you to request a high floor. Our view over La Valetta, was the best part of this hotel. The bed is pretty good, and big. Unfortunately it’s two twin beds made as an Italian bed so you can feel the separation it in the middle. The hotel is calm at night. The room was clean and well done by the maids everyday, thanks to them. The point is that the room is way more expensive than what it offers. Almost everything was too old, damaged and absolutely need refreshments. The door couldn’t close properly (it’s the same for all the rooms, our neighbors slammed his door so hard for it to close, that it woke us up), you have to push it very very hard to close it. The air conditioning is very noisy and is not actual air conditioned, you have to put it 15*C if you want the room to be like 25*C. The bathroom was the worst point. The sink and the bath were clogged (they fixed the bathtub the 2nd day and it was okay after that). The bathtub tray was incorrectly fixed and not straight. The tiles form the bath could let water to seep and come out through the toilet tiles. The airflow did not work at all so the room remains very very humid. Even the towel doesn’t dry even though it’s 30*C. The ceiling in the bathroom was damaged, probably by water damage from the top room. The toilet bowl was completely damaged and has to be changed. They were many things in the room such as the ceiling, the balcony barrier, or the bathroom doors that needing painting. The service is very disappointing and not what we could expect from a 5 stars hotel. A big part of the staff is not friendly or welcoming at all, they don’t take you seriously and just treat you as a random tourist who will pay anyway. Some of them didn’t even say Hello. Fortunately, another part of the staff such as Mark (Breakfast), Simba and Doriane (Reception) are way much friendlier, professional and smiling. It’s kind of a pity not to be considered as a actual guest by all the staff, we really felt that when we went at reception to explain what was wrong in the room and check if they’re not better room to move in as we stayed for 1 week. At least, on the 2nd day, after few discussions, Doriane showed us several rooms that were less damaged but with terrible views so we prefered to keep our room but thanks to her for trying. The gym is very good and well furnished. The fitness teacher were just too loud. The indoor pool and sauna were nice, cleaned and quiet. The talk of town bar have a large choice and is open all day which is very convenient. The tabloid restaurant is good for breakfast with a large choice but very bad for the dinner buffet which was not tasty at all and way to expensive for what it is. The Lounge restaurant, which is on the top floor of the hotel, next to the outdoor pool has a clear view over the city, but the menu is quite similar to the talk of town’s one. The value for money was okay and the meal was good but it looks more like a pool bar than an actual restaurant. The AX The Palace, as nothing to deal with it’s name. It was an actual deception even if some points or people raised it up, thanks to them.…
