Set on the seafront in Sliema, the Diplomat hotel offers panoramic sea views and a private rooftop pool. The entire hotel has just undergone a complete refurbishment, marrying classic elegance with sleek contemporary styling. The spacious, air-conditioned rooms have been ungraded with new fabrics, bedding, and lighting, as well as electronic door keys, satellite TV, a digital safe, and tea and coffee making facilities. The newly-installed bathrooms are equipped with hairdryers and free toiletries. A continental buffet breakfast is served daily. Light meals and drinks are available throughout the day in ‘The Old Vic’, our redesigned lobby bar with waterfront terrace. Snacks and drinks are also available at the fully redecorated rooftop bar, where guests can enjoy spectacular views from the brand-new pool and pool area. The hotel is located just steps away from the cafes and restaurants of Tower Road, as well as a lifeguard-protected rocky beach. It is 12 minutes on foot from the sandy beach of Balluta Bay.

I stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks in May 2023, the hotel is in a good location with it being a quick 15 minute walk to the ferry to Valletta and the main town area of Sliema. The hotel has many amenities, such as a gym but it’s in a different location when we visited due to refurbishments I believe? We had a spacious room for 3 and a balcony that looked onto the side street but we could also see the beach front that is right in front of the hotel from our room which was pleasant. The breakfasts were ok, I wasn’t particularly a fan however so I usually went out for breakfast, there were plenty of places around to eat instead. The swimming pool on the roof is lovely and provides great views, and there is a shower and plenty of sun loungers, there is also a balcony sort of hang out area where people can spend time too in a sheltered area which was nice when it rained and stormed. A negative however was that the air conditioning didn’t work.

Lovely hotel, breakfasts are amazing. Room very comfortable, with toiletries, bathrobes and slippers supplied. I used the spa several times, very relaxing. Dimitri the manager was an amazing host, but all the staff were excellent and helpful. Location was good as buses were a short walk away and loads of excellent restaurant's close by. Would recommend this hotel.

We booked one of the two suites for our family of 4 and could not have had a better stay! The room was very spacious with two separate bedrooms (2nd one is a sofa bed), an en suite connected to the main bedroom and a separate shower room with toilet off the 2nd bedroom / lounge area. There is a decent sized mini-bar style fridge which fitted multiple large bottles of water/kinnie/wine etc. there is a nice dining table plus 4 chairs. The terrace is enormous and feels like a whole extra room! It has a separate table plus 4 chairs, parasol, 2x sun loungers and beautiful foliage all around the garden wall. This is 8 floors up with a lovely cityscape view. Being up high also means you are very close to the rooftop pool which is approx 10m long by 4m wide (guessing). Our kids loved it! Always a great atmosphere up there with the poolside speakers, plus the bar is very close by 😁 Breakfast was impressive, tasty and with huge variety, plus new options each day. The staff throughout our very friendly, accommodating and welcoming - thank you to everyone who looked after us so well! Last thing - great location in Sliema for quick access to the beach, a multitude of amazing cafes and restaurants within 5-10 mins walk, close proximity to the ferries for access to Valletta (by boat) and if you’re looking for a little more luxury then a 20min walk around to St Julian’s and Spinola Bay. Thanks as ever Malta, you and your beautiful people x

Good location. Nearby bus stops. The hotel needs refurbishing as it is a bit run down. Rooms are standard. The shower water overflows, depending how you use it. Breakfast great and plenty. Gym or swim pool, sauna not used. Front desk helpful. Take out breakfast given as our flight was early am. 23Euro for cab to airport from the hotel. Overall, a decent stay, but not cheap.

The hotel is right in front of the beach, which is great. Staff was very kind and polite, breakfast was great. The pool in the rooftop was even better than I expected, with nice music and a small bar providing good drinks and nibbles. There's a luggage storage available if you arrive before the check in or stay after the check out. Location is good, but not central. Anyway, you can find good restaurants near the hotel so it's not an issue.

Pros…good location, friendly staff in dining and bar area, excellent tour representatives in the mornings, Extended breakfast after 11 Cons… air conditioning and Wi-Fi, check in staff Observations not attended to.. Not a helpful attitude from management. The upstairs pool and bar area is more one star and could do with an overhaul Very noisy Has potential but should be redefined as a good 3 star hotel

Let’s start with the positives: - excellent location, right opposite the sea - walking distance to St Julian Bay and Sliema - lovely surf bar opposite the hotel - staff are polite. Not overly friendly and leave you to it! - check in was quick - gym is modern, clean and has plenty of equipment for holiday work outs! - a courtesy area is available for showers if leaving after check out! These are new and clean! - pool is smaller than we imagined but clean and plenty of loungers available - shady area below the pool is great! - excellent views from the rooftop area! - bus stop over the road so good connections around the island The Negatives - substandard air con in the bedrooms! - rooms need updating - minimal plug sockets (we took and extended cable, thankfully!) - bathroom could be modernised, appreciate this is my opinion. Overall, I would recommend for location!
