We were staying overnight for an event and we decided it might be best for our daughter to stay too.The Bugle were very accomodating about arranging a room for her while we were in the restaurant area which is cosy and warm. The food was excellent, tasty and home cooked. We both had a steak and mushroom pie with chunky chips, peas, cauliflower and carrots. The rooms in this 17th century hotel are very typical of this era, wonky floors and dark beams and give you a real sense of history and past times! Cosiness was ensured by the warm duvets and throw provided and our daughters room had a corner bath( we had an en suite shower/bath) What I especially liked was the fact you could open a window at night!! So many places we've stayed, you can't open the windows! Breakfast was a full English, once again well cooked and served quickly by friendly staff. This is a very welcoming Hotel and full of character.

Friendly, rooms clean and tidy but the shower cubicle very cramped - I’m not huge but my shoulders almost touched the sides and you could only shower in a vertical position. Front facing rooms receive alot of early morning street noise - 05:00 on due to lorry deliveries.

Well, the location is bang on..........as for the rest.....!
Worst dressed staff in the bar/reception area ever.
Car park, pub, restaurant, rooms. et al need a professional clean.
Music, despite the band finishing on time, the music from behind the bar was still Being played well after midnight, this along with non residents still drinking in the bar area loudly, we were kept awake until the early hours.
Room walls are paper thin, so the usual bedroom noise, makes you feel that you are actually there....

It's your choice, accom outside the village and get a taxi to where you are going, or stay here and suffer.

I visited recently with my partner. We were asked to pay for the two nights up front, if it wasn't for that we would not have stayed the second night! The first thing I noticed on arrival was the dogs in the bar area. I understand that the hotel is dog friendly but, the bar area smelt of dog.
We were shown to our room. I was horrified to see that the toilet was dirty with brown stains in it. The room had a layer of dust on it and the metal bed creaked and squeaked every time you moved on it. The bed actually fell apart and my partner had to fix several wooden slats back in the best he could as all the plastic clips were broken.
We were not given fresh cups for the second morning, nor was the tea and coffee replenished.
The whole place just felt dirty and in desperate need of cleaning and redecorating. We didn't pay to have breakfast because of this.
It advertises free WiFi, this only lasts for half an hour!
My partner had stayed here several years ago and said that it has gone downhill dramatically. In all really disappointed.

Stayed at this hotel 8 years ago and it was lovely so when a family celebration came along decided to book the same hotel. What a mistake! Dirty, dusty, cobwebs galore, mould and mildew in the shower cubicle - hadn't been cleaned in years! Health and hygiene were not a priority in any area. The room was exceptionally hot due to the excellent weather and the window sash cord was broken so couldn't open it, Asthmatics beware! Shower only produced cold water. Cups were dirty. Toilets weren't clean or flushed on arrival at the hotel room. The floor was uneven, which as an old building was excusable, but it was worrying that the top left of the bed was falling down a hole in the floor and I'm sure the mattress had lost most of its springs bar the one or two that kept me awake most of the night digging in my back. Very expensive - £188 for 2 nights. Have taken photos as I am shocked at how poor the cleanliness was. Breakfast was offered at £9.95 each but wouldn't have eaten there even if I'd been paid to due to the poor hygiene in the public areas - goodness only knows what the kitchens were like! The car park was crowded and full of rubbish, which on the first night could have been disastrous for the vehicle and the passengers trying to park and then walk into the hotel - sawn wood left lying around with a lot of wood shavings, panty liners and dog ends plus debris galore. The free wifi advertised lasted for half an hour and was very poor. Will not be visiting again and would advise anyone not to go there.
