On a beach on a tropical island, about 1 hour by speedboat from the coast, lies Mari Mari Mantanani. The Manatanani island contains 2 small fishing villages, the Mari Mari backpackerslodge and a resort. The first day is really expensive, since it includes the pickup and return transfer from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu (KK) a 2,5 hour drive to... More

Mantanani is 2-3 hour van+boat ride from Kota Kinabalu. Many of the tourists come here for day trips of snorkeling and diving, but honestly the trip is not worth it just for one day. We spent 4D3N here and was swept way by the view and the underwater ecosystem. The stingrays are fantastic and can't even be described by words.... More

The Mari Mari backpackers lodge has very friendly staff, moderate food (a lot of the same) and very basic cabins. Its location is amazing on the very remote island! Prices are too high and there is hardly any cells service or wifi signal. We went snorkeling which was not worth the money. Make sure to walk around the island to... More

The resort charges its fees on a package-basis that includes at least land/sea transport and accommodation. Our package included breakfast and a snorkel trip, for the whooping price of RM 1,240 for two nights in a beachfront cabin or "su lap" (about US $120 a night for 2 people). The honest truth is that the accommodation and breakfast were probably... More

First things first. The location is superb. Beautiful white sandy beach with a crystal turquoise sea. Nice wooden beds on the beach to have some shade and the look of the place is nice. However...the price charged by Mari Mari is extortionate for SE Asia prices and what you get really isn't worth it. The accomodation was around £90 per... More

My husband and I stayed here for 3 night four days in march 2016. Although the island is beautiful, absolutely picture perfect I would not recommend Mari Mari to anyone. Without trying to be rude (if you pay a budget price, you should alter your expectations) but there is nothing to be positive about. The whole place lacks passion, initiative... More

This is just the perfect place to relax and enjoy blue, clear water of this wonderful island. Nice places for snorkelling! We stayed in the chalet and everything was great, very clean! There's only electricity when the sun is down, so we could sleep with the fan on the whole night (very pleasant temperature). The local food in the Mari... More

We did a bit of research about the place before we booked and after seeing nothing at all on islands around Borneo for less than £200 a night we booked this, expecting a basic Hut but beautiful surroundings. That's what we got. When we arrived we had a welcome drink and 10 minute briefing about what's about on the island... More

The boat ride there and back full of screaming Koreans was probably my highlight. It's a beautiful island, and Mari-Mari is cute enough. We went to snorkel and were taken to a couple sites around the island. The sessions were a nice length, but sadly, the reef is not in great condition.

This place was great. White sand long beaches, crystal clear ocean, great setting of the huts facing the ocean, great jungle walks, scuba diving, snorkling - all services including restaurant were reasonable priced. I loved this place. We book through the Mari Mari Backpackers Lodge web site, communicated by emails efficiently, paid by a credit card at the end of... More
