I stayed here with a group of friends for one night and thought it was a wonderful place. As far as hostels go, it was cleaner and better kept than most. There was a gorgeous view of the harbor from the deck. We used the kitchen to make a nice dinner and though the facilities were basic, it worked out great. I would stay there again without question.

We stayed only one night during our trip around Iceland. This is the cheapest place in Stykkisholmur but it's worth its price. Rooms and bathrooms are clean, and the staff is helpful. One con: the walls are very thin and probably when our daughter start crying everyone could hear her.

We had to check in very late after a big day of driving, once we did we had a whole room to ourselves. The beds were comfortable and it seemed like a lovely place to stay. I wish we were planning on staying more than one night, the village that it was located in looked like a nice place as well.

We were there in July (2 adults and 2 small kids) in a quadriple room on the 1st floor. The room was so narrow that with the luggages open on the floor it was not possible to move. Our door's lock did not work, even after they gave us a new key we could not lock it. Overall overpriced and poorly maintained. There was a terrace but it needs repairing and cleaning.

paper thin walls, dirty and old. no curtains on the window. I would not go back here or stay here again. it was really unpleasing and not worth it. People were loud and drunk as well. The town is really nice with a great pool though.

This hostel was clean but there were several problems with it.

Firstly, the small but open layout means thatif anyone decides to stay up talking, even if they keep their voices at a reasonable level, you'll be able to hear it pretty much anywhere in the hostel.

Secondly, there isn't much in the way of cooking facilities, so if there are a few people there, you'll be fighting for cooker space.

Thirdly, the beds were the most unbelievably creaky I have ever slept on. I've stayed in probably 30-40 different hostels round the world and never come across anything so ridiculous. It sounded like an Ikea testing lab every time you turned over.

That said, there aren't many other places to stay in Stykkisholmur, so if you want to visit, bring a pair of earplugs (and a pair for your roommate) and just deal with it!

Very basic hostel with small rooms and old beds, furniture and bathrooms. Even by Icelandic architectural standards the walls are very thin, so you can hear every conversation your neighbours are having. There is only a small kitchen with little equipment but a large enough dining room and the terrace has great views over the harbour indeed.

So I arrived after the usual tourist season in mid October on my own. Had the place to myself the first night I arrived with everything organised by the fantastic Sara who even scoured the bus times for me.

The place was lovely and warm throughout with the greatest shower I have ever come across - well once I had figured out how to change the temperature!

As if the place wasn't great enough as it is, I will never forget standing out on the decking with my new found French friends, watching the Northern Lights outshine the street lights.

Thanks.

P.S. The reason I marked the swimming pool and fitness center down is because I don't think there was one, it's not what you'd want there. If you really want to swim there's a water park in town and as for fitness center? Go for a walk - you're in one of the most beautiful places I 've been!

We were travelling around Iceland in August and found this hostel in the travel book we had. We don't usually stay in hostels but because this was only for 1 night and we had sleeping bags with us we thought we might as well safe some money. It was a good place to stay with great views over the harbour, kitchen looked fine but we didn't use it as we went out for dinner and grabbed breakfast at a local bakery.

When you decide to pop in for accommodation you have to keep in mind that there is usually no staff at the site and therefore better to call in advance when you book a room.

The beds were super soft....yes a bit too soft perhaps but it was all good for a night and you can´t expect much more from a hostel.

Wonderful. Huge window facing the sea so you can enjoy the view while dinner without going outside in the cold wind. Another review criticized the kitchen facilities, but I couldn't find any problem whatsoever, it was simple but fully equipped and nice. A social area with friendly wood-planked atmosphere. And: there was this tantalizingly beautiful girl with an Irish accent who works there. Who was she? Dammit. It's a mystery.
