We stayed in the Puffin Apartment Vikurbraut, belonging to the Puffin Hotel Vik. We cannot say it was below standard, but not more than OK. But against a high price. Hotel staff friendly, but that was it.
We’d booked in here to be close to the beach (I mean the one you can walk to, a couple of minutes from the hotel - it’s brilliant!). There’s plenty of parking, the rooms we had were a good size and modern, well laid out. The floor is unusual - made of small pebbles, which may hurt your feet if you’re particularly sensitive. Our rooms had ‘private entrances’ directly off the car park, which was fine for bringing in luggage, but just an extra door to remember to lock. Breakfast was decent although nothing special. The receptionist was a bit cold and business-like when we arrived, which was unusual in Iceland: everywhere else the hotel and restaurant staff have been more than happy to chat. But it’s a good location, with restaurants within walking distance, and a decent price.
We stopped here as part of driving the ring road. We were initially bit worried given the exterior compared to some of the more modern buildings on the main road but inside was decent and comfortable, the whole place was very clean. Walking distance from couple of great places to eat and drink this was a great choice.
We booked 2 rooms at Puffin Hotel in feb 2020. The check-in was easy - there was someone stationed at the reception and we paid in euros but was given change back in ISK. The room was really small, barely has sufficient room for our luggages. The shared bathrooms were very clean and comfortable to be used, hot showers and bathing gels available. Level 1 was the communal kitchen - very well equipped but was crowded at most times. Some of the occupants who used the sink did not clean up after using and we had to pick their wastage up. There were stoves, pots, pans, oven etc. There were also many tables and chairs available. Sound proofing of the rooms were really bad. Despite my room being at level 2 (and just next to the WC), I could hear conversations in the kitchen and the flushing of WC throughout the night. I could also hear foot steps on the stairs but thankfully I was too tired to be bothered and just needed a place to rest for 1 night. The stairways was very narrow and spiral, making it very difficult to bring luggages up. Overall it is an interesting stay, and Puffin has it's own charm. Hotels in Vik are one of the most expensive in Iceland thus Puffin is pretty value for money.…
We stayed here when a storm closed in and desperately needed a room to stay in Vik. The Puffin Hotel has one room left which we grabbed. 😄 The hotel was warm and comfortable although fairly basic. The breakfast was excellent, highlight being the waffle makers, and the location right by the Black Sands beach ideal for local exploring. Also there was tea and coffee available in the lobby for guests. Tip: ask for a small jug of fresh milk if you like your tea the English way!
