We arrived early due to a torrential downpour that had soaked us. They quickly checked us in, expedited prepping our room, gave us extra towels and coathangers, even offered use of their giant tumble-dryer.
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of dinner in their cozy dining room. Simple menu but very delicious.
The room and bathroom are compact but very functional, quiet, cool (or warm of you prefer) and we had a good night sleep. As we had an early excursion the next day, we were offered to start breakfast early, and were so happy not to have missed it. There was a wide choice and it was delicious.
The facility is unassuming but the location makes this place unique for nearby sightseeing in Vik, and the friendliness is priceless.

We used this guesthouse as a base for a two-day road trip out of Reykjavik to Iceland’s spectacular South Coast. We were welcomed warmly by the family matriarch, whose family had run this guesthouse/B&B on their sheep farm since 1983. We enjoyed chatting with her about rural life, running a farm, and coping with the collapse of tourism last year. Guests enjoy run of the farm (“be sure to close any gates behind you.”) but the sheep and lambs were distant and, as the owner’s son pointed out, “not really accustomed to petting.”

We had a simple, comfortable room with private bath/shower in a building with 12 other rooms and a common room with (free) coffee and tea, and a fridge and microwave for guests. We couldn’t figure out how to make the common room satellite TV work, but WiFi was strong and reliable.

The included buffet continental breakfast was simple and satisfactory, with cereal, bread/toast, meats and cheeses, yogurt and skyr, some fruit and replenished coffee. People in the breakfast room were chatty and friendly, and we all shared travel advice.

The owner will cook you dinner if you reserve. We enjoyed her great Icelandic home cooking: tomato soup followed by Arctic char one night, and smoked salmon followed by lamb the next. Icelandic beers, of course. Salad greens and scallions were from her own hothouse.

We’re typically boutique hotel guests, but this comfortable rural guest house, on a working sheep farm, was ideal and we’d recommend it highly. There did not seem to be much in Vik, so a farm visit was just right.

We spend two nights at this guest house. While the room was a little small it was very functional and the restaurant's dinner was great, especially the Lamb tenderloin from their very own farm. This is a 4th generation farming operation and the people were hardworking and friendly to make our stay comfortable. I would definitely recommend it if you are travelling in the south.

We had a twin room in the "new building". Think of a rectangular building with a corridor down the middle and rooms on both sides of you and only windows at the beginning and end. Common room with kitchen and seating at the end on one side (this area was noisy). Tea and coffee available FOC here.

The room was perfectly functional, nothing special (~2 star hotel), lovely and warm but nowhere to dry soaking wet clothes. Bed ok, only 1 pillow each. The door handles were really noisy. We had a room that was at the other end of the building to the common room and we could still hear the noise from the common room area.

The en-suite was very small, almost like one you would get on a cruise ship. No toiletries.

Breakfast was poor (continental: meat, eggs, bit of salad, banana in quarters, orange (pre-cut), bread, crackers, cereal, tea, coffee and fruit juices)

Evening meal was good (arctic char, fish soup, lamb)

Check-in was poor we had a guy that was in training but on his own and couldn't answer any questions e.g. what time is dinner, where is our room, couldn't take payment etc. Pretty hopeless to be honest.

Overall, this guesthouse had the feeling of a hostel to me. Recommend with caution as you get a basic room, with poor breakfast and good evening meal.

Tip: ask for room furthest away from common room area as that's really noisy and book table for evening meal when you arrive. Wouldn't recommend the meal deal, I'd just order straight off the menu as think it was cheaper.

This rural accommodation is in the south of Iceland in an excellent location for those who are starting by renting a car back on the island in the anti-hour direction leaving the capital Reykjavik. This stop already belongs to the Vik region with many tourist attractions. Access is easy and close to the main highway. Check-in is quick and easy in the same building where a great breakfast is included in the fare. You can also buy drinks and snacks at the reception. The rooms are distributed in other buildings but the car is parked near any entrance. The rooms are small but satisfying for one or two nights in the area with great heating and private bathroom with excellent shower.

I booked a 2 night stay as a solo traveler and it exceeded my expectations. Ely the owner, was a wonderful person with whom I interacted and chatted quite a bit about Iceland, its history and the situation during the pandemic.

Ely’s a warm, wonderful person who along with her son runs the hotel. The room itself was large and comfortable, with private bathroom, large windows facing the garden, and a nice comfortable chair. I interacted with some of the guests during breakfast and dinner and it was just a wonderful setup to exchange travel ideas, and talk about each other’s experiences during the day. I ordered dinner twice, fresh water fish from the local area and it was a just delicious home made meal. Breakfast was outstanding too, cereal, bread, ham and cheese, coffee, tea, etc. just a large variety of options to start the day right. There is also a common area with a small refrigerator, books, board games, tv, etc., nice to unwind at the end of the day.

I travelled solo this trip, but I plan to come back with my wife to this wonderful place again, what makes the difference is the interaction with the host, I would highly recommend this place without hesitation, you will not be disappointed!

The location of this guesthouse is the best for all Vik attractions. It's around 5 minutes from the beach with the fallen aircraft and the giant waterfall. Also it is not more than 15-20 minutes from the main beach near the Lava show and other attractions. The place is clean and the staff go above and beyond to make the stay memorable. The breakfast is not very large but it is helpful to remember that it is complementary and it is not easy to get resources in Iceland-- I believe the staff has to drive to Reykjavik each day to resupply. I highly recommend this guesthouse!

A wonderful stay! We reserved our 2-night stay on the guesthouse’s website, which worked well. When we arrived, the owner greeted us warmly and was helpful in every way. Our room, with a private bathroom, was fine - not luxurious, but just what we were looking for. The room was comfortable, the wifi worked well, and the bathroom was fine. We spent time in the common room, drinking (free) tea and coffee, and chatting with other guests. We ordered dinner both nights, and thoroughly enjoyed it - arctic char one night, and lamb the next, cooked by the owner and including nice touches like lettuce and scallions from her garden. Breakfast was fine, too. The owner encouraged us to walk around the farm, which we enjoyed doing, though overall, the place felt more like a rural guest house than a sheep farm, which was fine with us. We’d definitely recommend this place very highly!

I booked a one-day stay. Rooms clean and elegantly prepared.

Shared kitchen with coffee, tea, you can cook something for yourself.
The breakfast buffet has a lot of choice, despite the many guests, nothing is missing. Great tuna salad.
They also serve delicious large portions of dinners at good prices.
The most striking feature of this place is the people who work there. Nice and friendly people are always happy to answer all your questions and make you feel at home.

We had a lovely one-night stay driving the southern coast. The staff was pleasant and professional and though the room was typically Euro small it was clean and appointed well with very nice bath products. Restaurant options locally are limited so we ate at the guesthouse's dining room and had a very nice meal; local lamb and arctic char, additionally the provided breakfast was ample. We would recommend it.

The menu is what you'd call modern but traditional Icelandic. So seafood, usually salmon or arctic char, salads and potato based sides with bread. They serve one dish a night so contact them ahead and changed anything for your family :)

Our reservation was made through booking, although you can check solheimahjaleiga.is to contact the Guesthouse directly. I am afraid that a few weeks in advance is not enough for finding shelter in Iceland. Good luck.
