Volcano Hotel is a very nice country hotel in the area of Mýrdalur valley, by the southern most tip of Iceland. We have 7 spacious and beautiful rooms at the hotel, the rooms are decorated in Scandinavian style, with hardwood floors and light interiors. All our rooms have a private bathroom with a shower, shampoo, soaps, and a hairdryer. There is a nice lounge/dining room with a bar at Volcano Hotel and dinner is available for our guests, if it is booked in advance - latest the morning of your arrival. We take pride in offering a personal service and know the importance of meeting a local, so do chat with us and ask us about anything in Iceland - we're happy to help. We look forward to welcoming you!

During our week long vacation in Iceland we stayed at a different hotel each night, and the Volcano Hotel was by far our favorite. It was so comfy and clean, and the adorable furnishings made it extra cozy. The staff was friendly and so helpful, they even offer eggs made fresh when you arrive at breakfast (rather than the ones that sit in a tray until they're rubbery). The location is great too in between spectacular sights like Dyrholaey, the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier, and black sand beaches; but close enough to Vik to allow convenient access to services and restaurants. Honestly the Volcano Hotel is the one property where I wish we had stayed for multiple days, and especially nights. Because possibly the best thing they do is keep it dark outside at night, which is important when you're hoping to see the Aurora. Every other place we stayed had lights outside every window which made it impossible to see the sky. Our room at the Volcano Hotel had a big beautiful picture window with nothing outside but dark sky at night. There were no Northern Lights that night, but there were sheep grazing right outside in the morning. We hope to return someday and will definitely stay longer next time!

While this was not a flashy hotel from the outside, it was the best place we stayed in all of Iceland while spanning the south coast. The rooms were large, beds were large and comfy, they had Netflix, a great breakfast spread. Clean bathrooms. Beautiful views of the mountains AND of the ocean. Close enough to Vik to quickly venture in for dinner, but away from the city lights. The owners were really helpful helping us take a look at weather and road forecasts to help us better plan the rest of our trip. Highly recommend!

Had a one night stop at this hotel, that felt like home. As we were checking in at 9pm in a snow storm the lady said no food was available but recommended 3 restaurants in Vik. A very good bar and burger joint Smidjan Brugghus open until 12 was our choice and it was very very good. (music beers of which you can do a tester selection and incredible burgers) In the lobby of the hotel are hand/home made jumpers for you to wear. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Giving us recommendations on anything we ask and even let us play with Lexi, their labrador. A very excitable 3 year old. The rooms have a good size TV if you gets snowed in. Very comfortable beds and very good size room with seating area. Would go back in a heart beat to stay when in iceland.

This was a great stop on our first night going counterclockwise on the Ring Road. We were checked in promptly, Margrét at the front desk was very helpful in getting us in and answering our questions about the area. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The hotel is right on the main highway but set back enough that noise was not a problem even with our room facing the road and the windows open. The only noise in the morning were from the sheep in the neighboring property. Breakfast was excellent. It's a bit pricey, but it seems just about everything is in Iceland. Far better value than our hotel in Reykjavik was. If we ever have the opportunity to travel this way again, we'd definitely aim to return to Volcano Hotel.

Room Tip:Our room was great, and I don't see why any of the others would not be.

Spacious comfortable room, stylish and modern. Nice selection of meats, fruits, breads/croissants for breakfast and eggs are made to order. Common lounging and dining area has coffee/tea available. Staff were friendly and helpful. We decided to stay in for dinner and they were kind to accommodate. Small but impactful menu. The lamb and fish dishes were amazing. The chocolate cake rich and decadent. Location of hotel is about 10 minutes outside of Vik, close to points of interest such as black sand beach etc. Would also be a great location to see northern lights on a clear night.

The hotel has about 8 rooms, so it's very quiet; we didn't hear any noise. The room looked nice, spacious, and clean. It is very close to the black sand beach, about a 15-minute drive, and 8 minutes from the lighthouse area. The breakfast had fewer options than other places we stayed, which is reasonable given the number of customers, but there were still plenty of choices available. It was very nice that they would make scrambled eggs for you if you liked.

I stayed 2 nights at the Volcano Hotel. It was very very clean, the room was well appointed and comfortable. The hotel manager was very pleasant and helpful. The hotel is located about 12 minutes west of Vik. There's a view of the ocean from the front of the hotel but it's far away. Breakfast is included and was excellent. Waffles, scrambled eggs to order, the usual skyr, granola, sliced meats and cheeses, and yummy bread. They offer free Netflix in your room, which was a nice treat! I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Hotel is basic and don’t consider it as nice as various guesthouses we stayed at throughout Iceland, but it has what you need. Took a while for heat to really kick in and felt like other things were at times going to break in actuality everything worked fine.
Size was a plus as it’s a bit larger than most rooms we’ve seen in Iceland, and I appreciated the effort of the person working there especially during breakfast as he had to take care of everything himself.
Random point, but I do wish they had a floor mat that could clean your boots of sand (not just snow as the main mat seemed to be for), especially as I assume we’re one of many who had just visited the black sand beach. We took our shoes off when entering our room but it still got quite messy with sand in that part of the room.

Nice wee no frills hotel, just 10 minutes from Vik. Our room was clean and spacious, with decent Wi-Fi and Netflix. The views from the hotel are lovely, one of the highlights was watching the horses run together in the fields below. Need to definitely book if you want to eat in the restaurant…we somehow missed that memo but the host was kind enough to make a lamb dish for my starving partner which he said was delicious.

A great seven room boutique style hotel, just nestled outside Vik on a hill overlooking the sea. Nice size rooms with a very comfortable bed and the view from our room is beautiful. Ample breakfast selection ranging from eggs, waffles, cold cut meats etc. Would we stay here again? Absolutely. We are still in room 7 until Thursday!

Yes, 7:30 to 9:30. We found that most places had a similar schedule. Some even started at 8:00 at the earliest.
Breakfast included fresh bread, jams, espresso machine, cheeses, crackers, salami, cereals, fried eggs.... Considered a typical Icelandic breakfast. Other places also included fish.
Breakfast was delicious.
There are more places to choose from in the Vik area.
