At the turn of last century, it became obvious that more accommodation was needed in Seyðisfjörður to welcome the increasing number of tourists visiting the town. Originally the house was built as one of Iceland’s most luxurious hotels and restaurant in 1898 and decades later, it housed the national Sailors-bank and Landsbankinn, for almost a century. When renovated in 2002, we put efforts in preserving the historical atmosphere while adding modern convenience. In 1898 the hotel had 18 rooms and a big dining room and dancehall.

Hotel Aldan consists of different traditional wooden houses where the rooms are distributed: we stayed in the old bank! We had a cozy, spacious and cozy room with views of the church. The reception was rather cold at the restaurant that serves as reception. On the other hand, the room service was endearing. The restaurant room is cramped: better come to dinner after 8pm to be quiet. Same for breakfast (very good even if they do not serve omelette or scrambled eggs – excellent waffles) coming to the opening at 8:00. The restaurant is an excellent table (lobster soup – halibut – ice cream): it attracts many external customers. In short a stage of qualitative charm in the heart of the eastern fjords on the banks of the Seyðisfjörður.

While attending a Viking Festival performance in town the drinks and food plates were provided by Hotel Aldan and their head chef Dominic Zezula. The entertainment was by locals artists vocalist Bjort Sigfinnsdottir and Jon Hilmar Karason on the guitar. Great music accompanied by wonderful food and drink from Hotel Aldan. When walking around the beautiful town of Seydisfjordur be sure to enjoy the scenery, the historical displays that include some original "kit houses" , prefabricated homes from Norway build, disassembled and shipped over for re-assembly. Iceland had very little lumber. Also near the wharf area is an amazing display dedicated to the women of this area, their jobs, their endurance, their skills and their drive which greatly impacted the positive development of this settlement. This little town originally settled by Norwegian fishermen and merchants in 1848 was also the site of the world's first modern whaling station; the first telegraph cable linking Iceland to Europe in 1906; development of hydroelectric power for street lights and homes-the first in Iceland. This place is a hidden gem.

Hotel Aldan has various different buildings as part of the main hotel. We booked ‘The Old Bank’ A very characteristic hotel in the heart of town. They have plenty of parking right out the front of the Building. Check in is done in the main hotel. The staff were very friendly offered different restaurant recommendations including their own restaurant plus other great places in the town. They also gave us directions to the Old Bank.
You’re given a code for the door on a silver card you then leave this on the desk in the room when you check out. The rooms were a good size with a wardrobe and mini fridge. Brilliant powerful rainfall shower. They did have some creaky floor boards, so you might need ear plugs if your a light sleeper. Right near rainbow road and blue church. Walking distance to shops and restaurants nice views.

This review has been a struggle for me , we stayed in seven hotels in Iceland and this was our fourth, having just stayed at the excellent Hrafnavellir Guest House, we were on a high. We had Booked the Old Bank Building in February, the morning prior to our arrival we receive a looking forward to welcoming you email, in the afternoon we received an email telling us there was a problem with our accommodation and that we would be put in an apartment, I responded expressing disappointment and asked question about the apartment, I had assumed that it would be one of their own, wrong!
When we checked in the very nice gentleman managing the check in explained there was an issue with power in the Old ban building and that the apartment they had secured for us was at the edge of town and the we had exclusive use, OK it's not a big place, when we pulled up the grounds were being rebuilt, on entering it was clear that someone was in the process of moving out and that the accommodation was pretty basic, if we had a cat you would not have been able to swing it in the toilet/shower, the main bed room was small, the bed linen was of poor quality and nowhere near the standard we were expecting.
We returned to the Aldan and explained that the apartment was disappointing, we asked if anyone from the Aldan had checked the accommodation as it was nowhere near the quality of their apartments nor to the same standard as the accommodation we had booked, he explained that he would ask his manager to come and help, he duly called them but they seemed reluctant to come and told the front desk person to offer us a room in the Old Bank, when we arrived there were no issues with the building every room had the lights on.
I never did get a reply to my email asking about the alternative accommodation nor to a follow up one, my feeling is that they own most of the accommodation in Seydisfjordur and with the tourist boom they really don't care, if you want to visit the town maybe make it a day trip and stay in Egilsstaðir or try and find accommodation not in the Adan portfolio
Our room at the Old Bank was comfortable we were on the ground floor at the back, it was a good size, the bathroom was interesting especially when people walked through the garden, the bathroom door wouldn't close not a big deal.
Breakfast is taken at the Aldan and is pretty standard buffet style.

This is NOT a hotel. It’s a hostel. I stayed the Old Post Office wing (Snaefell) and was monumentally disappointed. The accommodation offered only basic facilities…a tiny room, bed, table, chair, kettle (which could not be filled under the tap because the sink was microscopic). A tiny, unventilated and gloomy bathroom. Blinds, which failed to block out the daylight. Paper thin walls so that you could hear everything from adjacent rooms and people clomping along the corridor. You trek 100 metres (in the rain) to a nearby dining room for breakfast, which was ok.
There was not the slightest attention to anything that might resemble comfort.
As a hostel I’ll give it 4/5, providing the price is hostel-compatible. Otherwise there’s no way this is a hotel.

We decided to leave the Ring Road to stop overnight at Seydisfjordur. After some debate we decided to stay at Hotel Aldan. Options were limited in terms of which of the properties that was available so we ended up at the Old Post Office (Hótel Snæfell). We had a lovely view of the lake from our window. The room itself was tiny and we had no place for any luggage at all (no closet/wardrobe and no floor space). There were two twin beds snug up against the walls and a largish desk under the window. We traveled with another couple and there room was a fair bit larger. The check in instructions sent by e mail noted to park at the grocery and then make your way over to the restaurant where there is a check in area. The hours are limited so plan carefully. There was no mention of when the front desk opened in the morning and no check out information. We ate dinner at the restaurant and were very pleased. Overall, if you are considering this property, I would look at the building options and if you can contact them directly to select a room that meets your needs (not sure if these sorts of requests are accepted ?). Ultimately, we decided taking a bit of extra time to visit Seydisfjordur on our journey was worthwhile.

We stayed for one night at The Bank. This is a rustic old building with rather basic accommodation - rooms are pretty tight space wise and bed not that comfortable. Being an old building you hear everyone entering and leaving, and traipsing the passages to their rooms. Check in is at a local cafe where you wait in line with cafe patrons ordering their coffees and cake, then to be told they can't help with accommodation and you wait some more while they summon their 'collegue'. Same at checkout. Suggest you make this a day visit from Egilsstaðir where there are far more and better accommodation and eating options.

Very unique hotel located right in the heart of Seydisfjordur. A popular hotel located in a touristy destination makes for a great match. Check-in was a breeze with helpful staff and check-out was even easier...just leave the keys in the room. Plenty of free parking in the lot. The room itself was small, but had enough space to be comfortable and rested. The bathroom was nice with a great shower. Room was located in an "old" renovated building. Nice path leads from the main lobby to the building with the rooms. Would definitely stay here again in the future. Located right next to a restaurant/bar for lunch and dinner. Lots of nice walks and hikes available within just a few blocks of the hotel, so you can leave your car parked and enjoy the area.

This hotel offers accommodation in several old houses close to the main building, which contains the reception and restaurant. We stayed in the Old Bank building. The furniture and the decorations are generally old fashioned and not without style. Beds are somewhat narrow and too soft. The bathroom is rather tiny. No TV is offered (which is ok), but worse than that, the WIFI system is none existing (which is bad). Generally, I would say the price is too high for what you get (also considering that you need to pay extra for breakfast).

The hotel is very charming. We had a lovely room. We got a quadruple room and it was just 2 of us so we found the room very spacious. Very old charming vibe. The breakfast was very nice but I felt they could have had more hot/cooked options. We enjoyed our stay
