My daughter and I, upon reading about Skalanes Guest House in the Lonely Planet, knew that we wanted to experience its uniqueness, and we were not disappointed! We stayed for one night in September. Emailed communications with the owner were extremely timely and helpful. There is a dirt road from town (Seydisfjodur) and then a place to park your car... More

If you are around, then this little farm is a must visit. Ok, it is a bit of a walk, or you will need a 4x4 (which we had). But our two year old loved the dogs, chickens, pigs and ducks walking around the place. It is run as sort of scientific center combined with bed and breakfast(?), we enjoyed... More

This is a charming house located in a very remote area of East Iceland. After spending time in Reykjavic, we flew from the domestic Reykjavik airport (5 min from downtown) to Eglasstadir in East Iceland. (It was about $120USD per person round trip.) We rented a car and our phone's GPS brought us out to Skalanes. It's a one hour... More

We spent only one night in Skalanes and arrived late in the night. The road to get there was an epic journey by itself: we were renting a low car and the track to reach the parking lot at 4km of Skalanes isn't easy at all, we could not reached it! Fortunately Zuhait saved us with his big 4x4 wheels... More

This was one of the most amazing places I have ever stayed. It is a true haven for nature lovers! The people that run the place were wonderfully warm and welcoming and the house was very well maintained. It was a perfect balance of being in the "middle of nowhere" but still have such a clean and cozy place to... More

If you love the outdoors, love being in remote places then while you are in Iceland ensure you book at least 2 nights at Skalanes- you can walk 10 mins to the bird viewing platform to see the cliffs where puffins and kiddiwicks nest! The trip in is by foot or by a quality 4 wheel drive - there are... More

We visited this guesthouse for a meal. We were staying in Seydisfjordur and a local told us about it. Subsequently, we took the 9 km walk from Seydisfjordur, which was spectacular along the coastline of the fjord. Upon reaching the guesthouse we were told they don't serve meals for day guests, but they still offered us a generous serving of... More

This was a wonderful place to spend 2 night in Iceland. Completely isolated except for a few other people and hundreds of birds, including puffins (late May). The food provided for breakfast and dinner was quite good. Wifi didn't work well, which was not unexpected given the remote location. Staff were very nice and helpful. Sadly, hot tub was not... This is my perfect spot. Not too fancy, good food, remote, peaceful. My only regret is not staying a few days instead of the one night we had. We didn't have a 4x4 and the road out was slow going and rough but we made it. We had called from town that we were on our way and the host,... More

After one of the most scariest drives I've ever had crossing 3 rivers by car, we arrived at Skalanes. I felt like I entered the end of the world. There is just this lovely red house and then a big ocean. Nothing else. We have a nice room, but the pillow is hardly a pillow. That is also my only... More
