We had a great stay at the Skuggi in June 2022. The hotel is in a prime location and the breakfast is AMAZING - every single thing is delicious. The rooms are small but comfortable; however, we happened to stay during a warm stretch of weather and our room was extremely hot and stuffy. This made it difficult and uncomfortable to sleep. The very small portion of the top of one window opens -- but does not provide any ventilation. We finally got a fan after asking for two days (they did not have enough). The room (including bathroom) is very dark but with midnight sun this was only an issue putting on makeup. The beds were very cozy. The free parking was wonderful and we had no issues finding a spot each night. I would definitely stay here again - even with the minor temperature issue of the room.

Hotel's Favorite
The rooms were comfortable, clean, and quiet. The staff went out of their way to be helpful, and the location is great. What really sets this place apart , though, is the breakfast. Alin and his team prepared and amazing smorgasbord that is gluten and dairy free friendly. They constantly renewed the food so it was fresh and plentiful. They looked like they were so happy to see people enjoying the food such. We would stay here on our return trip, but it's already booked, so be sure to plan ahead!

We stayed here for 4 nights and couldn’t have been happier with the hotel. It was downtown and in a great location, near to the sea, a food hall and a supermarket, plus plenty more. Several bus stops were within a couple of minutes walk. The hotel was really classy with minimal decor. We had a standard double room which was a decent size. The hotel bar area was really chilled and they have happy hour each day which we took advantage of. The breakfast was great with loads of choice, all really fresh and tasty. The staff were super helpful. I had to re book our stay several times due to Covid and they were really helpful, always replying to emails quickly. Would 100% recommend this hotel.

You won't go wrong - but you can probably do better. We stayed in Reykjavik during the start and end of our family trip to Reykjavik. At the start of the trip, we stayed in a guesthouse/apartment (several are listed on major hotel booking sites) and found that to be better accommodation - and at a lower price - than Skuggi. But Skuggi seems a safe hotel choice. It's is centrally located. You can walk from the hotel to many restaurants and to tourist sites. Beds are reasonably comfortable. Breakfast in the morning, with a wide selection, was the best hotel breakfast we had during our trip. The hotel has free parking underground. Unfortunately, the evening we arrived, the parking lot was already completely full. We were told to park on the street (free after 6pm). We were able to move into the lot the next morning. The rooms are quite small and painted in dark colors, making them a bit dark. They have gooseneck lamps in the rooms to provide light - but we felt the lighting, especially in the bathrooms, was inadequate. It was hot when we were there (in June). The hotel did not seem to have central air con. The room had a small portable fan - which made it tolerable. The staff was friendly but not completely competent. They didn't tell us the parking lot was full - another guest told us. Our room key was disabled prematurely by the front desk. The front desk reset the keys - still didn't work. They reset it again - still didn't work. That's a lot of frustrating going up and down stairs and along hallways only to find your key doesn't work. No apologies from the staff for that. Two times when I went to the front desk (the first time just to check in), the one person at the front desk was busy helping other guests plan (in great detail) a full day or multi-day travel itinerary. It didn't occur to the front desk rep. to ask if he could take a quick break in his comprehensive travel planning services to help another customer check in - long waits. Would stay here again - but would look for apartment/guesthouse option first.

Dear Hrothmir, Thank you very much for taking your time to review your stay with us at Skuggi Hotel. We are glad you found hotel´s location convenient and you enjoyed our breakfast . The darker colours of the walls/decor have a little to do with the name of the Hotel :) Skuggi means shadow therefore the black/grey decor. I do apologise for the key not working properly and for not better service during fixing the issue. As for the parking situation; We do have an underground garage, few spots outside of the hotel that are on "first comes, first serves " kinda rules .We do not reserve the spots as it is a complimentary service, therefore it is difficult for us to know if the parking is full, which happens sometimes, especially during the busy summer. Our front desk team will always gladly direct to next parking if needed. At Skuggi hotel it remains our main objective to deliver a high standard of customer service in order to deliver great experience to each and every single guest depending on their request/needs. I am sorry to read that you had to wait a little while the other guests have been assisted, but leaving unfinished task isn´t what we do. I am sure you understand that. Whenever you decide to come back to Iceland, we will be more then happy to welcome you again. All the best and thank you for staying with us this time,

We stayed at this hotel when we arrived in Iceland and at the end of our trip in Iceland. The rooms are very nice with good sized bathrooms. We asked for a room not on the main street and it was very quiet. There is adequate free parking. Breakfast was good. It is in a great location and 20 minute walk to the center of town. There are also more reasonably priced restaurants near by as compared to the old town city center. The front desk staff were wonderful and always pleasant and helpful.

We stayed here for 2 nights and found the hotel to be clean and comfortable. The front staff were friendly and pleasant. The breakfast buffet had many good options. The location is very good. We had no issue with parking, but if the hotel is full it could possibly be a problem. They have a small parking deck adjacent and some other spaces beside the building. The only knock was out of all the hotels we stayed in, this one had the most ineffective blackout curtains, which makes summertime sleeping tough. But that’s a small issue and I would gladly stay there again. If you’re traveling from the US, you’ll find this hotel to be similar to what we have stateside.

This is a solid hotel with nice but simple rooms. The location is what is great about this hotel - it's just a block away from Laugevegur shopping area and within walking distance of the Sun Voyager sculpture, Harpa concert hall, and Hallgrimskirkja. The included breakfast was also very good. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location. Really helpful and knowledgable staff. Nice breakfast. There is a lift and a parking garage. But garage small. However, there are many public lots around the hotel if you come back late and it's full.

Room was clean and modern, staff was friendly, nice parking facilities. It's located near a bunch of great restaurants and not too far from the famous church. The neighborhood seemed a little sketchy but that might just be cities in general. Overall, we were very happy with our stay.
