Skuggi Hotel by Keahotels earns praise for its prime location, nestled close to numerous restaurants, shops, and attractions, and its modern, albeit dark-themed, aesthetic. While guests commend the cleanliness and the attentive staff, opinions on value are split, with some questioning the cost relative to room quality and additional fees. Rooms are noted to be warm and dimly lit, with criticisms regarding the absence of air conditioning and cramped spaces. The hotel offers a quiet environment with good soundproofing, although street noise can be an issue. Amenities receive mixed reviews, with a lack of air conditioning and fridges being notable drawbacks.

We stayed at this hotel as part of our TUI package holiday, and quite honestly - it was absolutely brilliant.
The location is perfect for several things - 1) the bus stop we needed for our TUI pick ups for excursions / airport transfers is a 10 second walk away, just around the corner. 2) to take a walk down to the main water front is 5 minutes (which leads you to the opera house and the harbour easily) 3) the main shopping road is one road away!

The room itself was big enough for the 3 of us, although the third bed was a put up and not a proper double. (Fine for the 4 nights we stayed but not if for any longer!) The bathroom was a decent size and the walk in shower was perfect.
The style of the hotel is fab and really funky! The room included a hair dryer, robes and slippers for all, a kettle & teas / coffees etc.

Breakfast is downstairs in the ‘lobby’ at the back, which works perfectly. The selection is a fair amount, (3/4 lots of cereals, several pastries & breads and cooked breakfast with eggs, sausages and beans). Lots of seats and spacious.

We were incredibly pleased with our choice of hotel & will absolutely be recommending to friends & family.
Thanks Skuggi! We’ll definitely be back.

Booked the Skuggi via our tour operator and overall it was a very good choice. Unfortunately, the first experience was not great, upon checking in and going to our room, we had a blocked pipe sewage issue. You could smell it from the corridor and couldn’t enter the room without covering your face. Things like this happen and can’t be helped, but what was disappointing is that it either hadn’t been reported by housekeeping or it had, and nothing had been done. Anyway, reception dealt with this efficiently and moved us to a new smell free room. As other reviews have mentioned, the room is not the largest, but is clean and comfortable with plenty of amenities such as a hospitality tray. Also impressed it had UK tv channels. For us personally it was too hot and we had to have the window open but that did little to bring the temperature down. Housekeeping was very good, as was breakfast, plenty of choice and good quality. Also in the hotel reception area is a voucher booklet which had loads of money off vouchers for restaurants. We used these throughout our stay to get between 15-25% off food bills, which is great as it’s so expensive! Overall we would recommend the Skuggi, it’s a lovely modern, clean hotel with friendly professional staff and is in a great location.

Traveler tips: As an aside to the hotel, there is a free app called Appy Hour which you can get from the App Store (it’s yellow/white with a black crown kind of emblem) which shows you bars etc. that have happy hours. It will display in real time when they are active and when clicked you can see a write up, location map, rating, and costs for beer/wine. Well worth downloading and we saved a fortune!

Although we had a Golden Circle and Lights tour included in our stay with Tui, we booked a separate South Coast Tour with Iceland Horizon (just type it into trip advisor). It is on a mini bus which is far more personal and was fantastic, far better than the larger tours. Pick up was bus stop 10 which is across the road from 9 (just past the Vietnamese restaurant) and we saved £25 pp over the Tui identical tour. Personally we enjoyed the South Coast tour more and it was a fantastic day out, so would highly recommend it.

Dear KP1Uk, Thank you for your wonderful and detailed review. The smell you are mentioning is a sulfur smell which is very common in Reykjavik/Iceland , especially on a windy days. It usually disappears after water is run through the pipes. I am happy to read that yo were moved to another room right away so you could truly enjoy your stay with us. We hope to welcoming you again soon.

We spent 1 night here and were very pleased with our choice. The bed was comfortable, shower had good water pressure and there was a wide selection of food items at the breakfast buffet. Location was also excellent - close to lots of bars, restaurants and shops. The staff were super friendly and happy to answer our questions. A garage for parking was a huge bonus as our car was snow free when we left for the airport early in the morning.

We booked the Hotel Skuggi for a 4 night stay. Our flight was arriving early in the morning, so we booked the room for the night before arrival. Before our arrival, I contacted the hotel to notify them of our late arrival and to inquire about transfers and tours. I always received an email back within a couple of hours from Kinga and Pala. Both were very accommodating and helpful, and arranged a private transfer for us. There were 4 of us traveling together, and she explained that the cost for a taxi was just a little more than taking the bus, so we booked the private transfer. The driver was waiting for us and was very friendly and welcoming. He gave us suggestions on things to do and restaurants. When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by Pala who then recommended and arranged tours for us. She was very helpful and honest and went above and beyond to accommodate us. She is truly an asset to the company. For example, we took the South Coast tour and visited the Secret Lagoon, and one of the women in our group left her bathing suit either at the Lagoon or in the van. Pala contacted both to try to find it, and it was left in the van, so we got it the next day. She always greeted us with a smile and asked how our day was and if we needed anything. The entire staff at the hotel were very friendly and kind. The breakfast was delicious and the happy hour was a plus after being out all day, and coming back to relax and have a drink. The rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. The location of the hotel was convenient for walking around Reykjavik, and the food hall nearby was very good for a quick meal. I am a travel agent and I would highly recommend this hotel.

We spent an excellent 4 days here recently in a ground floor room at the end of the hall. which was very quiet. The room was cozy by American standards but just fine for two of us with two suitcases and two backpacks. Although there was no closet/wardrobe there was a rack with hangers and a tower of cubbies which was plenty of space for our clothes. The bed was very comfortable and the comforters were amazing! The private bathroom had a walk-in shower and bodywash/soap and a hair dryer were provided. A nice addition was the heated towel rack which was spacious enough for our towels and our wet swimwear. The room temperature was controlled by a knob on the radiator and a small window could be opened if needed. The front desk staff was very helpful in arranging our transportation back to the airport and in arranging for a taxi to take us for our COVID tests needed to return to the US. The daily breakfast buffet included scrambled eggs and bacon, along with many fresh breads, a variety of fruit and vegetables, oatmeal, yogurt, curried herring, tuna salad, egg salad, pancakes, and meats and cheeses with coffee, tea and juice. The location was truly just a one minute walk from bus stop 9 and very easy for even a novice tourist to navigate and one block down from the main shopping area making it very convenient for sightseeing, There is a small grocery market two blocks away for snacks and essentials. We were extremely pleased with our choice and would highly recommend this hotel.

The location of this hotel is perfect. You are walking distance to the main road for all food and drinks, the church and harbour are a short walk. We ate twice at the Hlemmur Matoll food hall which was great. We love the decor of the hotel and staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was one of the comfiest ever and we slept well every night. We would have liked a safe in the room and it also got quite hot and stuffy in there at night, but obviously there is no air con but it would actually have been nice (which sounds weird for Iceland I know!). The room was cleaned daily and the bathroom was spotless, however there was some dust above the bed and some chips in the wall - just needed a few finishing touches here and there. We would have liked more hot choice for breakfast, however there was a lot of variety and we were always satisfied in the mornings. All in all, a great trip!

We chose Skuggi because we were looking for a central hotel with free parking garage but it is way much more! The interior design is so unique and minimal. The location is fantastic, a few minutes walk from the main street with shops and restaurants. Our room was spacey, nicely decorated and warm. The fact that the wall was decorated from phrases of a photo book that was left in the room was such a cute touch! The staff was very helpful and kind, they also let us leave the car in the parking for a few hours after our checkout so that we could take a last walk to the center. The underground parking garage is very convenient and you can go there without going out.
The only con is that it is surrounded by buildings so the view is a bit poor, but the receptionist gave us a second floor room and it was really bright. I would definitely stay again.

Nice hotel, convenient location to access waterfront or downtown activities (museums, restaurants, bars, etc.). Free parking - "underground" or secure parking garage was huge bonus. Corner room with water view. Could hear the elevator despite being far away..... Rooms could use more lighting for night time (but common issue across Iceland hotels). Had blackout roller shades plus blackout curtains over window/doors (if you had balcony) which would be essential during summer. Bfast buffet included hot items but it would have put it up there with our other favorite hotels if they had espresso machine for self service in the morning. Super friendly (reception, bfast waiters, cleaning) staff. Helpful hint: only liquid soap/shampoo combo offered in Iceland hotels at sink & shower. If you prefer bar soap, conditioner, lotion, kleenex - bring it yourself :) Skuggi included kleenex, kettle for instant coffee/tea bags, no fridge (FYI if this is important to you). Happy travels!

Skuggi's strongest points are its location (especially when taking into account pricing), and the buffet breakfast included was also excellent. These were major criteria for our short stay, hence the 4 stars overall.
Another reason for selecting Skuggi was the parking; however as noted in other reviews, it is slightly hit or miss, in our experience you need to park your car in the morning or afternoon, since all the spots are taken by evening.
Rooms were OK, slightly on the smaller side and our room did get a little warm in July without AC despite opening the single, small window. A fan was provided but does not make much difference. The use-for-everything soap/shampoo/conditioner in the bathroom is odd, and should hopefully be revisited by management at some point. Phone did not work for calling local numbers, which was also unusual (reception offered using their phone, which was nice, but not ideal).

Yes, there are variety of hot and cold items. The bacon is Canadian Style as I recall and the eggs were scrabbled but you will find this buffet has a great variety of fruit, breads, juices, coffee, meat, cheese, and you can request oatmeal (as my wife did). Items may change but unless you have a vary limited pallet you will enjoy the varied items including pickled herring, yogurt, and more. I don't recall beans per se but there are plenty of protein options on the buffet
