Stayed here for 2 nights with my family over the weekend in January during our short trip to see the beautiful Iceland. the rooms were ready with my name written on it and all ready by the time we reached the guesthouse at 5pm. The room is decent size of family of 3 and has most needed utilities like microwave, fridge, hair dryer and some coffee and teas. Plenty of towels too and rooms cleaned daily. We hardly stayed in the room, but it is very quiet in the night and has great heating so keeps you warm all time. Its 5 mins walk from BSI bus terminal and 5 mins walk to high street, shops and restaurants. The landlady (sorry cant remember her name) is so sweet and helped us get a taxi to the harbour when we checked out. If we visit again, we would definitely stay here again.
The room was clean, comfortable and had more amenities than we would have expected (TV, kettle, safe deposit box, mini fridge). Toilet and bathroom were both clean and nice! Staff were so welcoming and kind. We only stayed one night but would have loved to have stayed longer. When our trip the following day was cancelled due to weather conditions, staff were so helpful helping us work out somewhere to stay that night as they were already full! They also let us keep our bags there in a safe place through the day. Great stay!
Guesthouse Galtafell is a cosy quirky family business run by the charming Mrs Thorey Bjarnadottir, well located and close to the old Town and 5 minutes walk from BSI bus station. I had a fairytale stay in her White Castle with a cute white cat and a labrador in a one bed apartment at garden level. The apartment was well lit with dual aspect windows overlooking the garden; a small well equipped kitchenette if you need to cook which I didn’t. Teas and coffees are provided. It was very clean and cosy with a wooden heated floor. I had the best sleep in the most comfortable bed. There was a flat screen satellite TV with English channels BBC and ITV amongst the many channels in the living room. Fluffy white towels were changed every day. Bath with a huge shower head over giving a strong stream of hot water. Breakfast every morning was served in the upstairs dining room. A plentiful buffet of cereals, different milks including soya and oat milk; selection of cheeses, boiled eggs; fresh fruits, breads, croissant and pastries. It was a wonderful stay in a character filled guesthouse with family photos and other family ornaments. I have stayed in hotels all over the world but Mrs Bjarnadottir’s and the Galtafell Guesthouse has to be one of the most memorable stays I have experienced. I hope to return to Reykjavik and the Galtafell Guesthouse is the only place I would stay.…
My partner and I stayed here at the beginning and end of our 10 day Iceland trip and it was a very convenient location - a short walk away from the city centre but there is room for free street parking. The check in process is very no-frills, guest names and room directions were left at the main entrance door and the keys were in the rooms so we didn't actually enter the main reception area throughout our stay! The room itself was nicely appointed and we enjoyed our stay. The owners also have a very nice cat that hangs out in the garden looking for a pat.
Location very convenient. Had to park up the street at a business that fortunately was not open that weekend. 2 feet between wall and each side of bed, Pathway from outside door to bathroom was about 4 feet. They had a luggage rack, but no way to set it up without blocking doorway. Room was impossible to make dark
