I loved this B&B. The location is excellent. The room is everything you need and nothing you don’t. A great little kitchen area. The bed is amazingly comfortable and the sheets, comforter, and towels are luxury. So easy to walk any here in Reykjavik. I highly recommend.
We stayed at Guesthouse Galtafell for a night and we wished we could have stayed longer. We booked the studio/apartment which is fully furnished, elegant, spacious and well located. We really appreciate the customer service offered. Even tho there is no reception (it works with a code), they answered all our emails instantly and even modified the arrival dates due to a last minute cancellation flight. We highly recommend Guesthouse Galtafell.
First, the owners were incredible! We changed our reservation dates and room types twice and they were easily accommodated!! However, the studio we stayed in is very different than the photos they advertise as their studio. Still very nice though the bathroom had no ventilation or shower door so the floor became soaked as soon as you showered. The beds were not comfortable at all but it was nice to have a couch and TV to watch. The house itself is beautiful, but if you are in a studio or one-bedroom you do not have access to the house. Instead, you are just off on the side which took away of the reason we booked this place. Overall, a fine experience however I wouldn't stay again.
Our first night, and our next to the last night. Different rooms each time, both clean and comfy. Location is perfect. We say Thorey first night, but not the last. Our names and info was on the front door, so we were good to go. The neighbor hood if full of fantastic homes , buildings, and consulates. Parking on the street is available, if you get there early enough to grab a spot. It is quiet, and we loved our stay. Love Reykjavik! Only problem we had was we accidently took the key with us, and wasn't able to find a way to post it back until we got to the US. But that was OUR fault. We'd definitely stay here again, if we're able to make another trip to Iceland.
I've been to Iceland many times ove rthe last ten or so years but how I wished I had discovered Galtafell before - so much better than any city hotel , and I've stayed in quite a few! Galtafell is a real home from home. I rented an apartment for myself and my eleven year old granddaughter for four days. It was absolutely the best place for us with great facilities, kitchen and sepatate bedrooms. We were welcomed by JellyBelly the cat before we'd even rung the doorbell and we were greeted further by a lovely dog in the main house. Thorey is a very good host. She took note of some extra requirements I'd asked about in advance and also put us in touch with a very very reliable taxi service which we used a lot. The beds are very comfy and the house and street are very quiet. There's a lovely seven minute walk by the Lake down to one of the main town bus stops and another couple of minutes takes you right into the centre. Galtafell is in an older. part of the city full of beautiful old buildings and is , itself, quite a historic house. I'll be recommending Galtafell to anyone I know going to Iceland and I truly DO wish I'd discovered this little gem before. Thank you, Thorey!…
This is a very nice and comfortable place to stay. The neighborhood is fantastic - quiet but within a short walk of the downtown shopping district, restaurants, several grocery stores, and museums. Our room was comfortable, clean, modern with a little extra sink next to the tea kettle and microwave. There was also a small refrigerator. The bathroom was spacious. Free parking on the street. The proprietor was very friendly and helpful. Good value. We would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.
We had no contact with the owner. The place was clean and well Located but no advise about the area, no explanation about check in check out or breakfast times. So the service was really bad for the price. I will not recommend this place for the price
My friend and I loved our stay at Guesthouse Galtafell - one the most beautiful historical houses in Reykjavik. It is perfectly located - in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood that's only a quick walk to downtown restaurants and bars. Our apartment was cozy, immaculately clean, and we had a lovely view of the garden. The beds were super comfortable, and the check in/out process was smooth and easy. I have recommended this guesthouse to several friends, and I would definitely stay there again.
Stayed here for 2 nights with my family over the weekend in January during our short trip to see the beautiful Iceland. the rooms were ready with my name written on it and all ready by the time we reached the guesthouse at 5pm. The room is decent size of family of 3 and has most needed utilities like microwave, fridge, hair dryer and some coffee and teas. Plenty of towels too and rooms cleaned daily. We hardly stayed in the room, but it is very quiet in the night and has great heating so keeps you warm all time. Its 5 mins walk from BSI bus terminal and 5 mins walk to high street, shops and restaurants. The landlady (sorry cant remember her name) is so sweet and helped us get a taxi to the harbour when we checked out. If we visit again, we would definitely stay here again.
The room was clean, comfortable and had more amenities than we would have expected (TV, kettle, safe deposit box, mini fridge). Toilet and bathroom were both clean and nice! Staff were so welcoming and kind. We only stayed one night but would have loved to have stayed longer. When our trip the following day was cancelled due to weather conditions, staff were so helpful helping us work out somewhere to stay that night as they were already full! They also let us keep our bags there in a safe place through the day. Great stay!
