Detailed Reviews
Stayed here for 2 nights with my family over the weekend in January during our short trip to see the beautiful Iceland. the rooms were ready with my name written on it and all ready by the time we reached the guesthouse at 5pm. The room is decent size of family of 3 and has most needed utilities like microwave, fridge, hair dryer and some coffee and teas. Plenty of towels too and rooms cleaned daily.
We hardly stayed in the room, but it is very quiet in the night and has great heating so keeps you warm all time. Its 5 mins walk from BSI bus terminal and 5 mins walk to high street, shops and restaurants.
The landlady (sorry cant remember her name) is so sweet and helped us get a taxi to the harbour when we checked out. If we visit again, we would definitely stay here again.

An excellent self catering guest house in an ideal location for exploring Reykjavik and the surrounding countryside. Just a 10-15 walk from the main bus station (BSI) that gives access to Keflavik airport and most of the bus trip explorations. Also just a short walk to the main center of Reykjavik and all its attractions.
The rooms are spotlessly clean and come in different configurations and layouts, just ask and the staff will advise. I would definitely stay here again on my next trip.

Room Tip: No need for a taxi from BSI to Galtafell, it really is just a short walk.

The room was clean, comfortable and had more amenities than we would have expected (TV, kettle, safe deposit box, mini fridge). Toilet and bathroom were both clean and nice! Staff were so welcoming and kind. We only stayed one night but would have loved to have stayed longer. When our trip the following day was cancelled due to weather conditions, staff were so helpful helping us work out somewhere to stay that night as they were already full! They also let us keep our bags there in a safe place through the day. Great stay!

Located in a neighborhood very close to the national gallery and easily within walking distance to lots of great restaurants and the waterfront. We were in Room 3 for 2 nights.
Friendly pre- arrival email from manager to ensure proper room/ bed setup for 2 people. Outside Entrance was a unkempt and we found our room by virtue of a sign on the exterior door with my name and the key in the lock.
Room was warm and surfaces were very clean. Lots of seating, but no place for hanging clothes other than a standing coatrack with a dozen hangers. No available outlets near the bed -— we unplugged the lamps for the purposes of charging our devices. We discovered that the room is on the approach to runway 19 at Reykjavik airport. Not consistently loud, but occasional.
We did not see the other rooms in the guesthouse, but the photos on the web site we used to make our decision were not representative of the condition and appearance of ours. The kitchen looked recently painted, but elsewhere there was lots of peeling paint, nail holes and screws in the walls, and a burn hole in the sofa. The bathroom was a patchwork of repairs with a shower curtain that ran the length of the room — but not around the end of the shower so water got all over the floor. The bay window overlooked an unkempt back yard with large piles of rubbish and building materials.
While it was a clean warm place to sleep, it was not a pleasant place to hang out. Based upon how the guest house was represented and what we received, we were disappointed and can’t recommend

I've been to Iceland many times ove rthe last ten or so years but how I wished I had discovered Galtafell before - so much better than any city hotel , and I've stayed in quite a few! Galtafell is a real home from home. I rented an apartment for myself and my eleven year old granddaughter for four days. It was absolutely the best place for us with great facilities, kitchen and sepatate bedrooms. We were welcomed by JellyBelly the cat before we'd even rung the doorbell and we were greeted further by a lovely dog in the main house. Thorey is a very good host. She took note of some extra requirements I'd asked about in advance and also put us in touch with a very very reliable taxi service which we used a lot. The beds are very comfy and the house and street are very quiet. There's a lovely seven minute walk by the Lake down to one of the main town bus stops and another couple of minutes takes you right into the centre. Galtafell is in an older. part of the city full of beautiful old buildings and is , itself, quite a historic house. I'll be recommending Galtafell to anyone I know going to Iceland and I truly DO wish I'd discovered this little gem before. Thank you, Thorey!

We stayed at Guesthouse Galtafell for a night and we wished we could have stayed longer.
We booked the studio/apartment which is fully furnished, elegant, spacious and well located.
We really appreciate the customer service offered. Even tho there is no reception (it works with a code), they answered all our emails instantly and even modified the arrival dates due to a last minute cancellation flight.
We highly recommend Guesthouse Galtafell.

We stayed in the studio apartment that has a private bathroom, small kitchen and living room. As we were there for a week the extra space made it a very comfortable stay. Everything was very clean and comfortable (especially the beds!). Thorey, the manager, was very helpful. Can't say enough about the location and walkability of the area. Very convenient!

This is a very nice and comfortable place to stay. The neighborhood is fantastic - quiet but within a short walk of the downtown shopping district, restaurants, several grocery stores, and museums. Our room was comfortable, clean, modern with a little extra sink next to the tea kettle and microwave. There was also a small refrigerator. The bathroom was spacious. Free parking on the street. The proprietor was very friendly and helpful. Good value. We would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.

We stayed here for 2 nights and thought it was very nice. The room we rented had a kitchenette, small bathroom, small living/dining area and 1 bedroom. The room and the bed were comfortable. The manager/owner is wonderful and very accommodating. It was very nice for our needs!

We stayed at Guesthouse Galtafell for 2 non consecutive nights; once on our first night and once on our last night.
Thorey the owner was helpful and efficient with the email communication before our trip. We were able to store luggage outside of normal check-in hours.
The Guesthouse was well located (approx. 200m from the Iconic church' and offered us a cheaper option compared to the hotels. The rooms were clean and comfortable but quite small. We didn't have breakfast so I can't comment on that. It was one of the few places we stayed at in Iceland that had a TV.
Only street parking is available but we didn't feel like we needed a car in Reykjavik so that didn't bother us. The streets are tight though and the bus transfer we got from the port was only able to drop us about 500m away which was not ideal with lots of luggage. My tip is to get a taxi and not a bus if you are getting a transfer from a cruise.
If you are looking for a clean, well located, and well priced stay in Reykjavik the GG is a great option.

I am sure if you contact Mrs Bjornodotti; the owner and speak to her direct. She is an extremely nice person and will go out of her way to accommodate you. She very kindly let me in the room early because it was ready (although she wanted the cleaner to come in again whilst I was there just to check everything was fine in the bathroom). Enjoy your stay!
yes, there is
