walking into thingholt, reception floor below ground level, thought was going into a dungeon. is it supposed to be trendy to have a fully black theme? the corridors were black, full of black in our room. an overdose. we stayed in 2 room types - standard room 114, on first floor but still very close to street level. who actually designed these rooms? need to go back to room design course 101. besides excessive black, desk space was so high that the bar stools supplied were also so high could barely get onto them. powe rpoints were right at floor level and not easy to use. worse was the bathroom. no mirror over basin . mirror was across at right angles so trying to shave was ridiculous. also used deluxe room 411. much more spacious than standard room and lighter. however, television set was so far away from bed, you had to actual sit closer on a chair to watch. and the bathroom - absolutely no space around basin to set our your toiletries yet there was also room to have a bench put in. also please fix the door, it slams shut at an alarming rate. however, the redeeming feature was that of the charming staff. the mature breakfast lady was v nice.(breakfast was more than adequate although it felt like i was eating clunks of cardboard instead of 'scrambled eggs'). the front desk were also very nice, especially camilla. camilla was delightful and a great asset to the hotel. hang on to her! whilst the hotel is centrally located, i could not recommend it and would not stay here again…
Good breakfast, the room has a fan and one window you can open, otherwise radiator heat when chilly. We were in an upgraded room and it still had several broken items BUT a welcome plate with cookies. Front desk helped with a lot of typical tourist problems. Shower was a bit silly with a loose drape. The room had sort of a beat up look but the lobby was big and comfortable with early coffee and croissants. Hotels in this city can be expensive and I felt we got what we paid for but maybe I'd enjoy a more upgraded experience if I did it again.
Great location, breakfast ok, room was very uncomfortable-no drawers to put away clothes, horrible pillows, very cramped, gym was tiny, spa was hardly a spa. Service was very pleasant but would definitely not stay here again.
The hotel is fun, comfortable and chic. It’s in a really great location in the middle of everything. The staff are outstanding and very friendly and helpful. A couple of issues to be aware of - it was extremely noisy in the evenings and also the room design is a bit awkward. The bathrooms are poorly designed with, for example, nowhere to hang a towel while you shower and no proper extractor fan. The breakfast room is nice although the selection is pretty limited.
Room smaller than expected, bathroom lacked hanging hooks for towels, tv did not work, phone in room did not receive wake up call. The location is superb, easy walking distanve to everything you need to see in town, and clkose to good restaurants.
The hotel is clean, centrally located, and operated by some of the nicest, most accommodating people I’ve ever encountered while vacationing; especially the women operating the breakfast service — truly lovely. The breakfast offers a nice variety of options and everything I had was well done. My one warning is this: take ear plugs because you will almost certainly need them. The hotel is centrally located off of the main drag which contains a variety of bars and music locales. The party goes on well into the wee hours of the morning. I popped in my ear plugs and put on my eye shade (because it’s July so the sun never goes down) and I slept like a kitten.
Very nice hotel and good service in great location. Breakfast was good, staff are very friendly and we liked the quirkiness of the interiors. Rooms are comfortable with big bathroom. Spa and hot tub was nice relaxation after all day exploring
Whilst this is listed as a 4 star hotel, it really is not a 4 star hotel. It was more like staying at a 2 or 3 star hotel. Pros -Very Friendly staff Cons -This is a 4 star hotel, no bathtub -Shower leaked into the entire bathroom -Lightbulb was so hot it was a heater, was also out of it's fixture -so much wear and tear in the room, needs a complete makeover -no blackout curtains -odd shaped room, could hit your head easily -noisy area so it was difficult to sleep -no climate control (a/c) in the room
I had the most enjoyable stay here! The hotel staff is great, very accommodating and welcoming. I arrived early for check in so they held my bag for me until I arrived back, same thing for check out I was able to store my luggage until I was ready to depart. The breakfast each morning was very nice and had great options. The location was perfect, walking distance to popular areas in the city and close to a tour bus pick up point. The room had a window that opened for some fresh air, and there was a portable table fan in the closet if I had need for it ( I was ok!) Visiting Iceland has been the best trip ever!
Fantastic! Stayed for one night. An excellent base for seeing Reykjavik especially if you want to see all the main sights and squeeze in some whale watching. The staff were very welcoming and very helpful. My room was next to the lift but it was very quiet. Excellent selection at breakfast.
