Terrible, terrible service. We booked a Deluxe Double Room at Thingholt by Center Hotels for 4 nights and payed for it 2 months prior. When we arrived today to check in the front desk of the hotel informed us that there was a party in our room that caused some maintenance problems and our room was not available. The hotel relocated us to Center Hotels Laugavegur. The hotel we booked was downgraded and the room we booked and paid for was downgraded as well. I tried to resolve this situation with the front desk of both hotels but it was unsuccessful. They told us that both hotels are overbooked and no rooms are available. The front desk suggested also if we are not satisfied, we can leave and find another hotel. We travel a lot, and the first time in my life our hotel and the room was downgraded. it is very unprofessional. Never again!…
We stayed here for one night before flying home after our Road Trip in Iceland. We had not chosen this hotel but were directed there after another hotel in the Center Group had overbooked and there was consequently no room left for us in it, even though we had fully paid for that room seven weeks prior to our stay! This was Friday evening in the city, the hotel has no available parking and consequently we had to park 300 metres away and then haul our luggage to the hotel. Reception staff were very sympathetic to the inconvenience that had been caused to us and we were provided with free access to the spa, which we did not have the opportunity to use. We were also given a free drink at the hotel bar, which we gratefully accepted. The hotel is high quality but we would never have freely chosen it for the following reasons: 1) There is no free parking in the area 2) It is very dark inside. We prefer a lighter environment 3) Our room was at the top of the hotel with a steeply sloping ceiling thus limiting headroom severely 4) It is right in the city centre with its attendant disadvantages. The room was well fitted out and had a pleasant view towards the Pond. It was, however, very dark. The central location of the property meant that we were unable to sleep properly as the noise from local clubs, bars, people and traffic was quite intolerable. The only good outcome from this situation was that we were still awake when the 3.30 am alarm went off for our drive to the airport. Choose this hotel if you don't have a car, enjoy a city centre location on a Friday night and have good ear plugs. Otherwise, stay a little way out of the city and walk in.…
Firstly the location is perfect, right in the heart of the city with everything within walking distance. We used an airport shuttle but we also used Bus-stop 6 for tours and that is the stop from the airport which means a very short walk to the hotel on arrival. Reception is below street level which together with the dark decor makes it a bit gloomy. The staff are very friendly and mostly helpful. Breakfast is very good, a decent selection of both hot and cold. Our room was on the top floor, it was small but that is not unusual in city centre hotels. Also our room had sloped ceiling like an attic room which meant that as you get out of bed you had to be careful not to hit your head! Unfortunately at times I did! I’m not small but if someone over 6ft were to get up in the dark they might do some damage! The double bed was comfortable but it had two single duvets. The bathroom was clean and modern. The shower had great pressure but was lethal half the time with scalding hot water early in the morning and in the evenings but tepid if used mid morning. The temperature control tap did not work. We brought this up with reception and also mentioned that the steam extractor fan did not work which meant the room filled with steam after two of us had showered but the lady at reception basically just shrugged her shoulders. There also is not temperature in the room itself, during the night it became very hot even with the window open. In a country where it can be bright for 18 hours you would expect that the windows would have blackout curtains or blinds but they were a light white material which let the light through and around the edges which meant that from sunrise at 3am it was hard to stay asleep. Another guest with a small child said it was a nightmare for them! Even a complimentary eye mask would help. Anyone of these issue alone would be forgotten but the combination just means I can’t give a high rating.…
It’s always lovely when you start to see the hotel breakfast team like family and that was true for our stay… Natalia especially was so warm and kind. In fact everyone at this hotel was perfect, friendly, professional and discreet. The hotel is in a great location. We had a quiet room so weren’t disturbed by noise at all. The spa was lovely and calming. The breakfast selection was great … developed a slight addiction for the cranberry oat cookies! Salmon every day is amazing too! Overall a great experience, would definitely go back!
Excellent hotel, ideally situated in the centre of Reykjavik. modern, clean with helpful and friendly staff. Room was great, modern, large bed and separate sofa. Daily housekeeping with fresh towels. Breakfast, huge variety of choice and a good 3 hours of 7am to 10am. A small gym with a couple of bikes and range of weights. Spa pool and steam room are excellent. The only reason for four stars is there is a night club around the corner and music can be heard until gone midnight. No fault of the hotel but may put off some visitors. Would definitely return in the future.
Could not have been better! This is truly one of my favorite hotels I’ve stayed in. The decor is beautiful. The fact that there are only about 50 rooms makes it feel very exclusive and well taken care of. The front desk staff could not be friendlier or more helpful. The breakfast is great! The hot tub and steam room are some of the prettiest I’ve ever seen and so tranquil and relaxing! Lastly, the location is perfect. It is right in the middle of some of the coolest bars, restaurants and cafes. It’s very central and makes it beyond easy to walk everywhere or catch a bus at Bus Stop #6. The rooms are slightly small, but everything else more than makes up for it!
Thingholt Hotel was great! Our standard room was a very good size, very modern and well equipped. All the staff in Thingholt was very nice and they made everything possible so that we were happy. We felt so welcome and confortable! The breakfast was amazing, everything from pastries to cold cuts, breads, salmon...The quality was really good. The Spa was very nice as well, which feels great after a day tour :) If we come back to Reykjavik, we will stay in Thingholt again for sure! Thanks a lot for everything! Best regards,
We were thrilled with our stay at Centre Hotels Thingholt! We'd selected this hotel for our trip to Iceland based on the combination of reasonable price, excelent reviews, and what looked to be some really beautiful accommodations based on the pictures we'd seen. Well, the pictures don't do it justice! It's even nicer in person! As soon as you step through the door you're greeted with tasteful modern luxury, and our room was perfect! The breakfast (included) was amazing, and the hotel's spa was incredible! The location was close to tons of amazing things to see and do. The staff was so incredibly friendly and helpful - they really went out of their way to make our stay perfect! All in all we were thilled and thoroughly pleased with everything about our stay and will happily return again!…
The hotel was very clean, staff so welcoming and friendly! Very helpful when asking for taxis, restaurant recommendations etc. perfect location for bus stop 3 and 6. Lots of shops and restaurants close by. The downside though: nowhere to hang wet clothes near radiators. Our soaking clothes from the storm took 24 hours to dry which wasn’t ideal. There are nightclubs across the street so you can hear thumping music until 3am most nights!
My wife booked a 5 day stay through Secret Escapes. The hotel is in a great location, a 2 minute walk from bus stop 3 which is where many of the excursions pick up from and also a 10 minute walk from the harbour where the boat trips depart from. The room was compact but adequate. Breakfast was included and was plentiful in quantity and choice. There was no restaurant but lots of place to eat within easy walking distance. The only downside was a nightclub about 30m away which had really booming music but the windows provided good insulation from this. Would be happy to return but might choose a hotel with a view over the harbour next time as it is stunningly beautiful
