I am an avid traveler in Europe and Scandinavia. I don't really believe I have unreasonably high standards. That said, two other couples and my husband and I made the rather large mistake of beginning our Icelandic Adventure at this abysmal hotel. The Staff was rude and not helpful. The hotel itself is run down and, frankly, dirty. We actually found little rodent feces in our drawers. It was awful, just awful. We then traveled around Iceland and had a truly marvelous time at some wonderful and remote locations. DO NOT stay at this Hotel. It is incredibly overpriced, outdated and not even remotely hospitality oriented.
A group of friends and I had a July trip planned to Iceland, 7 dif hotels. When the airline cancelled our flight- COVID-this hotel refused to refund our money, in violation of its own refund policy. Every other hotel refunded the money. This hotel told us to POUND Sand. Awful treatment. Tried and tried and tried to secure a refund, but they ignored all of our requests. TERRIBLE experience.
Booked this hotel for January 2020 trip -- booked one night for arrival in Iceland, and one night three days later after a tour. I've been to Iceland several times, but decided to try this hotel on this trip because of its Marriott connection. First booked night: Icelandair cancelled our flight from USA to Keflavik a day before the trip because of bad weather at KEF, so I called the hotel and cancelled the room more than 24 hours before scheduled check-in. Hotel still charged us $300+ for the room for the night I cancelled. I'm a Marriott platinum elite, so Marriott contacted the hotel twice to attempt to get a refund on my behalf. The hotel refused. Second booked night: We stayed at the hotel and had a comfortable room and no major issues. Summary: OK hotel physically, but the hotel management appear to be more interested in getting revenue for service not provided than in customer satisfaction. Iceland is a wonderful place to visit, and we had a great experience with Arctic Adventures, but this hotel is the epitome of greed and poor customer support. There are several other better hotels in Reykjavik.…
This hotel is in a great location. You can walk everywhere. The decor is modern and slick. The lobby bar is warm and cozy and the restaurant is a nice modern contrast right off the lounge area. The rooms are very well appointed. Modern and very clean. Fantastic huge shower! Could have stayed in it all day. Beds and linens were super comfortable. Even the bathrobes were great (and I never say that!). Would highly recommend this hotel. Little tip for the hotel - front desk clerk could use some personality and perhaps be a little friendlier or at least somewhat helpful. The attitude was a little off putting but once in the room - even he melted away.
My husband and I have been coming to Iceland for years (he over 30 years, myself approximately 15). Since its opening, we have always stayed at 101 Hotel, not only because of its incredible location, style and vibe but its great staff - Omar being the best! Everyone has always been accommodating, friendly and helpful - very easy to chat with! Due to some street/intersection construction in front of the hotel that was being performed by the city (now complete and looks great!), the hotel had received some bad reviews and complaints from guests because of noise, but please do not let these reviews stop you from booking here. You will not be disappointed with your stay! See you soon 101 Hotel!
