Travelling to Reykjavik in top tourist season and having missed to book in advance, I had the choice between bland overpriced hotels in the outskirts of town and hostels. If people can think that it’s fantastic to sleep in flatbeds packed with other people in airplanes’ business class passing in the sky over Iceland, why shouldn’t I be able to...

This review is for the private rooms. If you like communist / institutionalised chic then this hotel is perfect for you. For 120 euro you get a grim room with shared bathroom. Unsuccesfully trying to get a spare pillow (there were a total of 2 thin pillows on the double bed) from the unfriendly girl on reception was like something...

I got in Kex cause some of my road trip friends recommended me this place and was so glad that I stayed there. The hostel is clean, big, the dorms are good, beds comfortable and I loved their policy of "shared food" at their kitchen (a really decent and equipment one btw) The view from the hall in the third...

After a long walking around in a cloudy day I found this very cool spot in Reikiavik with a great bar and restaurant . Try the hamburger and the beers. You can find a nice coffee too. Hipsters and artists around with such a great concerts.

I stayed at Kex Hostel in a private room, it was so stylish and clean. At bathroom there were shampoon and soap. The only negative side; the room was so cold at nights (I traveled there at September) The heater was not working and the blanket was so thin. The hostel is near to Old Reykjavik and Old Harbour. There is...

Stayed end of September, and in terms of Iceland it's cheap accommodation. Breakfast is good. Stayed in 16 bed mixed dorm which was okay, lockers really noisy though but can't be helped. Brilliant location. I didn't go into the common room as was on tours and tired so can't comment on social side. Showers were nice and hot, not spotless...

I stayed in kex hostel for four nights for a short leisure trip, and to be honest for the price it is exactly as you'd expect Beds are fine to sleep in, and you're warm at night Not really much else to be said about the place because you're staying in a hostel, you wouldn't expect 5 star and you...

I don't think that there is anything that can be called "budget" on Iceland, but as far as accommodation goes, KEX hostel could fall into the budget group. I stayed in a 16 beds mixed dorms with two friends, and although I came to realize that anything over 6-8 beds is no longer my cup of tea, it definitely is...

I absolutely loved the place. Clean, trendy and very nice staff. They have events going on everyday in the hostel! Highly recommended, specially if you want to meet people. I also recommend to try the food from the bar, very good!! They have happy hour for beers, and a lot of people from other places just go to the bar...

Very central location, front desk staff helped me with the transfers, tours and I stayed in a room with 5 girls more, affordable price for being Islandia. The have a kitchen where you can use the products that were left by other travellers. Toilets are big and clean. Bar has concerts, it's fun!! The only thing is that staff in...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It' s the Icelandic word for "biscuit" and a social hostel in Reykjavik. What's not to love? Housed in an old biscuit factory in the heart of Reykjavik, KEX is just steps from all the bars, clubs, and music venues that give this city its legendary reputation. It's also a painless distance from late night munchies and a mind-boggling array of coffee houses, shops, and tourist attractions. Of course, you might not even want to venture outside of the hostel with all its features: a cafe and bar, lounge area, heated outdoor patio, tourist information desk, laundry room, and free Wi-Fi. Two guest kitchenettes and private laundry facilities are also available. And with a variety of rooms for up to 214 guests, you'll have no problem meeting interesting, new travel buddies from exotic places. KEX oozes with personality and soul-just like our guests. Every piece of decor has a story to tell. Using salvaged materials and found objects from various sources, KEX is an organic concept blending Iceland' s past with a modern, international twist. The raw industrial spaces and vintage furnishings combine to give it a homey, eclectic feel. With the affordable nightly rates, you'll still have enough cash left over to enjoy a few pints of Viking beer or sample some local delicacies like hakarl and Brennivin. In addition to our dormitory rooms we offer three different double rooms: 1. Double Plus - 1 double bed, 1 private bathroom, linens and towels, and 1 fantastic seaside view. 2. Double Standard - 1 double bed (of the most clever convertible design in case you get tired of being so close to your travel partner), shared bathrooms, linens and towels, and if you are lucky the same fantastic view. 3. Twin - 2 single beds, linens and towels, and a better than average chance of making your friends back home quite jealous indeed. LOCATION: KEX is located in the center of Reykjavik, with a view across the sea to Mt. Esja across the bay. The old factory that houses KEX is also home to The Living Art Museum and studios of various artists, dancers, and fashion designers. KEX is within an easy walking distance to the city's interesting nightlife, restaurants, shopping streets, cultural attractions, and other points of interest in the city center. To reach those places a little further afield, the hostel is well connected to the city's public bus system. ... more   less
