Hotel's Favorite
Stayed for one night on our first night in Iceland. Check in was at 3:00pm, but upon requesting early check-in on the day of, they kindly notified us that we could check-in at 2:00pm. Note that you do not know what apartment you are staying at until check-in time arrives (they will message you with access code and apartment address), and there are a number of different apartments that are part of the Reykjavik Residence Hotel. To access your room, you use an app that allows you to tap your phone to card readers to open doors. You can also get physical access cards from reception (located in another building about 2 minutes away from the building I stayed at). We opted to get physical access cards because there was a small hiccup with my phone-- it just wouldn't work for one particular card reader. This card reader was very important because it was the card reader that allows you to leave the building! Fortunately, another guest was walking by on the other side of the door and let us out. We immediately went to get physical access cards after that. This was the only issue we had during our stay, but I must admit we panicked when we realized we were stuck in the building. Imagine if there had been a fire! I would recommend to the hotel to not require cards to access the building. The building was the Printing Press Courtyard Building. The room was fantastic. It was very clean and new, and the shower was very good. La Occitane toiletries were provided. Bathrobes were provided as well. The kitchenette had a microwave, toaster, kettle, mini-fridge, dishwasher, and sink. There were 2 single beds and a sofa bed that was double/queen sized. I slept on the sofa bed and it was very comfortable. We had the breakfast basket as part of our booking. It was delivered to us around 3:30pm, although I assume if we had checked in at the regular time it would have already been in the room. The basket contained grapes, a cucumber, bread, cheese, yogurts, butter, and various jams. The following day around 7:30am, fresh sourdough bread was delivered to our room. The sourdough bread was absolutely delicious! Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would love to stay again.

The staff is so friendly and helpful, we arrived at 6am and although our rooms wouldn't be ready for hours, they stored our luggage and mad us feel at home in their luxe lobby. We drank Prosecco and relaxed until everything opened. Our residence was conveniently located in the center of town and super close to two different bus stops, which is very important. but wait there's more. The rooms were so cozy, clean and they had a heated towel rack in the bathroom. The facilities were so beautiful and the optional breakfast basket was the perfect way to start the day with warm bread hanging on your door. One more thing, the cutest wine bar is right outside your door, Port9. I would highly recommend you stay here, If I ever find myself in Reykjavik again I surely will.

The staff, accommodations, and location at the Reykjavik Residence Hotel were exceptional! We traveled with 3 families from the USA to Iceland with our elderly parents as part of our dad's 80th birthday bucket list. We corresponded with the hotel staff via email before our trip and they were very prompt and helpful in answering questions. You never know when you're emailing a hotel operation if you'll even get a reply. Imagine our delight when they replied quickly and were extremely helpful, even with offering restaurant suggestions or to call taxis for us. We organized the airport pickup car service which made our arrival very easy. With 6 people and lots of luggage, the car size was adequate and driver very professional. The driver took us to the hotel reception desk. We'd taken a red-eye flight and the hotel staff greeted us with a very warm welcome. They offered us coffee, a place to sit, and use of bathrooms. The reception area was comfortable and the bathroom even had a full-size luxurious tiled shower if needed (definitely not a truck stop shower here!). Our rooms weren't ready so they stored our luggage at no charge and were very accommodating when we needed to retrieve items. Upon check-in, they called a taxi to transport us and our luggage and to the building. It was only a few minutes walk, but this was very thoughtful considering it was a cold and windy winter day. Our building was newly renovated and was very clean and fresh. We had rooms on the basement level, the main level, and the top floor. Each room was spacious, had a large kitchen, and clean and comfortable bathrooms. The basement room had a full-size sliding door that walked outside. The top room had a mini balcony that overlooked the harbor. We'd read some reviews about a sulphur smell in the bathrooms or the water supply. We didn't experience this at all. In fact, we routinely filled our water bottles with the tap water in the rooms and it was perfect to drink. They performed daily housekeeping service automatically and we left laundry one day which was returned within 24 hours with no problems. Definitely take the breakfast option. The bread is baked fresh, filled with air pockets and crusty outside. Hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt (skyr), meats, and cheese. This was a great way to start the day. Coffee was included in the room and the kitchens also had mini-fridges which included a supply of milk and apple juice. The beds were very comfortable and rooms were well-heated. Wi-fi was fast and included. We spent one week at the hotel and highly recommend staying here. It was the size and layout of an apartment, with the amenities and service of a 5-star hotel. Things to watch out for: If you're traveling with others, try to arrange to be in the same building. The buildings are definitely spread out and are a far distance from the reception area. If we'd been in separate buildings, it would have been much more difficult to meet up for tours and activities. Not every building has an elevator. That was an issue for my parents so luckily they were able to put all 3 of our families in the same building which had an elevator. Location is great! Easily walkable for the average person to the harbor, to the main shopping street, the big church, and all the restaurants. We were concerned at first at being in a hotel without a main restaurant, but that turned out not to be an issue. The food and restaurant options in Iceland is outstanding! All in all, our stay far exceeded our expectations and we'd highly recommend the Reykjavik Residence Hotel to others. And don't forget to get the breakfast!

After initially looking forward to our stay, unfortunately within a few minutes of arrival, the shine was swiftly taken off of the experience by the overall cleanliness/condition of the room. The bathroom ceiling was disgusting and unlikely to have been cleaned in months. On that note, when walking into the bathroom, be sure not to step on the footplate on the door frame, which see-saw's by a couple of inches every time you do (the silicone filler was never going to fix this problem!!). The bed lacks a headboard, as the ceiling slopes low towards this end, meaning that your pillow needs to be at least a foot or so from that end, or else your forehead would touch the ceiling. The result of this (if over 5ft11 like myself, is that your feet hang over the end of the bed (pray you don't want to sit up in bed). Aside from the historical wear, scuffs and marks on the walks & carpets, if given a much overdue deep clean or repaint, this would be a far nicer base to stay for your trip. As is currently stands, it's certainly overpriced as the room currently sits.

We loved our stay in our apartment. We had booked a studio but I think we were upgraded to a 1 bed apartment on the day of check in. We stayed for four nights and everything was perfect. We used our phones for access to the building and our room which worked well, and made check in and check out really easy. The apartments are very central and it’s easy to book tours and transfers from a bus stop nearby. Overall we loved our stay and will be recommending to anyone we know who is visiting the city!
