We had an overall disappointing stay at ion city, despite high hopes and price tag. Arrival was fairly easy although the entrance is very tucked away, luckily our taxi driver pointed us in the right direction (be aware that the street is pedestrian and cycles only). We received a welcome drink which was nice, but that was pretty much where the welcoming atmosphere and experience ended for us. The room itself was okay but lacking some amenities, there wasn’t really anything you wouldn’t get in a cheaper hotel other than nespresso machine accompanied by pods that had no description on. It was underwhelming for the price, but fine. Not far off a premier inn to be honest. That was until the evening hit. The hotel is VERY close to a bar that is open until 3am and has live music every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. And it is LOUD. The noise wasn’t helped by the fact that our window was broken and had a large gap in the bottom corner between the window and the frame. The hotel offered us earplugs and moved us to another room the next day (luckily our two remaining nights fell on the few days when the there isn’t a band next door, I’d be surprised if any room was free from noise on the live music nights) but the receptionist denied the window was broken (you could literally feel the wind coming through and see light!) and generally made us feel like we’d been a huge inconvenience for complaining for the rest of our stay. We also asked for help booking a taxi and were told “just call one”. Although the location is handy for getting around, it’s also the hotel’s downfall due to the noise. Reykjavik is a fairly small place, so it’s not essential to stay on the main pedestrian street, next time we’ll go a few streets out to a quieter spot.

This hotel was fab. Little tricky to find but once here very posh! We had a superior junior room with a sauna on the balcony. Such a lovely way to spend an hour in between day trips You have one large sliding door so view is gorgeous no need to close curtain and it’s so private. Shower lovely too. All good would definitely recommend.

Small, modern, clean hotel in the center of Reykjavik steps away from bakeries, restaurants, shops and mini markets. The room are small but well equipped with great use of space. Very nice products in the bathroom. The prices are high but everything in Reykjavik is expensive. The best hotel asset is its front desk personnel. Thank you to Virgina, Ying Ying and Bart for their impeccable service. They helped us with reservations and tour and taxi bookings, provided suggestions and tips for what to do, see and where to find the best bakeries and offered a welcoming smile every time. Good job!

Was such a lovely boutique hotel. It’s tucked to the side so takes an extra pair of eyes to find. Lovely receptionists very welcoming. Our room was cleaned everyday and was nice and hygienic throughout. Comments saying it’s too loud however I think need to remember it’s in a busy city area of course it will be, once we closed the window it was totally fine and we had no issues. We liked the busy feel. It’s in a great location and we got Sandholt bakery every morning just down the road. Would defo stay there again! Felt so safe which is key!

This was the third time we have stayed at Ion City Hotel & it never fails to impress! Located on Laugavegur, you will be mere steps from everything! The customer service here is outstanding. Everyone is so friendly warm and welcoming, especially Yingying, who is fantastic! Our favorite room is the Junior Suite, which not only has gorgeous views of the mountains, but also offers a private sauna on the balcony. I have seen other reviews complaining of the noise at night, but we have never found it to be a problem and I am a very light sleeper. The room was sparkling clean, the beds were plush and cozy and the shower is just amazing! We've already got our next stay here booked! Highly recommend.

The hotel is the definition of a boutique hotel - cosy, stylish and friendly. The reception staff were amazing - so helpful and it felt like a genuinely warm welcome. The room was pretty much a standard size. We were right over the Main Street which parties late on a weekend but the glazing cuts out most of the noise and the people watching opportunities are great. The location really couldn't be more central and everything is in easy reach. Highly recommended.

I wanted to love this hotel especially given price. The room was small but on a positive note had a great bed and shower. Also, the person working the front desk was very helpful. However, the real issues were parking and the street noise from the street. The hotel does not have parking. Plus, being located on the main walking street in Reykjavik made it impossible to drop off or pick up bags leaving one with the only option of carrying bags from where ever one managed to find a spot - very stressful especially late Saturday night when we arrived. We stayed at the hotel two night at the start of our trip and then a night at the end. We found noise was worse for the room facing the back versus the one facing the walking street. It seemed (but not sure that was the case) that our room was located over a night club with music playing until the early hours of morning.

The Ion City Hotel is fantastic and the staff (especially Virginia) make it even better. This is a little hard to find but when you call they have given directions so often that they almost know your question before you ask. The hotel was wonderful. We stayed in the City Suite and it could not have been more perfect. The elevator lets you out into your room - only you have access! The views of Hallgrimskirkja were picturesque. We would definitely stay here again!

Comfortable hotel to stay for couple of nights. Our room was not noisy. Great lication. We would like to thank Yingying for going above and beyond. We were on a tight schedule and she was amazing, helping us with couple of things to make sure our stay was comfortable and smooth.

One of the worst Marriott properties I have stayed at. 0 stars for the front desk/reception; 2 points for amenities and 4 points for the room. The reception area and front desk is beyond terrible. Youth hostels have more warmth and are more welcoming. The staff besides being clueless at times, they are borderline rude. Mostly MIA with a sign saying “we have stepped away”. It was particularly bad when there was no one to buzz us in when the key was not working at night. The hotel is tucked into an alley. No signs. On a pedestrian-only street. Watch out if you are coming by car. Also, taxi pick-ups are problematic. No breakfast but a restaurant attached and impossible to get reservations. Absolutely horrible! Room was OK. Small. Basic yet tastefully appointed. Overlooking into someone’s window. Noisy on the weekends. Only one bathrobe. Toilet not clean with urine stains. Got very warm in the room and possibly to adjust temp (and too noisy to open the window). There seem to be much nicer hotels on the same street. This place is not cheap either. Will not recommend this to anyone. PS. Doesn’t matter your Marriott status—there is ZERO acknowledgment or recognition.
