ESJAN takes its name from the majestic mountain that rises above the farm. She is the queen of mountains in this region of Iceland, situated across the bay from the capital Reykjavik. This unique accommodation is in 2 up-cycled City Buses converted into 5 units with a Bath House serving both. Connected to nature and the elements this promises to be your best stay in Iceland.

Absolutely amazing place. Being able to sleep in a well-adapted camper-style bus was truly fantastic. The toilets are outside (and perfectly tidy). inside, maximum comfort of the beds and functionality of the kitchenette. also possibility of excursions on Mount Esja (right behind the buses). Super recommended

This is one of the most unusual and coolest accomodations I have stayed ever! The bus was very clean and practical for a family of four. Only minus was that the bunkbed didnt have a rail so one of the parents had to sleep on the top bed.
The service house was very good and close. Our girls think this was the best stay we had during our 2 week travel in Iceland. We didnt see the owner the whole time we were there but did get info as a message.
Lots of cats, chickens and a rooster in the yard. Also a trampolin for kids, though it was too wet when we were there.

We stayed in Esjan in 2017 and had a great time so we decided to stay again in 2019. Just as awesome as we remembered it.
If you're okay with a shared bathroom and you love your travel companions then you'll have a good time here. The bus guest rooms are so lovingly decorated and the view of Mt. Esja is incredible. It's like sleeping outdoors except in a comfy bed with heat and running water!
I can't wait to go back.

Very nice idea to convert old buses into Accommodation, too bad for the little care of the surrounding environment and the structure in general. We didn't like the spiders in the sheets. We stopped only the first of the two nights booked. Definitely expensive for what is offered

I was supposed to stay at this place for two nights with my family. We talked with the owner twice before coming. Both times she confirmed that we had a “bus” for two days. We arrived after 6 hours with to kids. We met the woman who welcomed us with “OH I thought you were coming tomorrow” With two crying kids in my arms I heard the woman “sorry, I don’t know what kind of witchcraft this is. Now I have to bring my car to the mechanic” She offered us a free night the next day without payment and drove away. We tried contacting her to confirm the agreement - She never answered!!!
We had two were stressed and expensive nights in Reykjavik. Trying to find room for us and two kids in last moment.
It is the most unloving, careless way I have ever seen any person treat a family.

A unique experience staying the night on a bus, the conversation has been very well designed and looks great.
The room was very clean and heated so we weren’t cold, the toilets and shower block is only a few steps away and those were also kept very clean and tidy. There is free WiFi and parking just a few steps away from the buses. There is a small oven/grill and 2 hobs. The views are lovely with mountains and the sea.
The owner was very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend a visit here.

Our family of four took advantage of Icelandair's "stopover" program and spent 24 hours in Iceland on our way to mainland Europe. Our stay in the converted buses of Esjan was among the highlights of our visit. Our host, Linda, was entirely accommodating, communicative, and exceedingly friendly, as was her charming doggy. The buses were very clean, cozy, and well-appointed with all the necessary bed linens as well as sufficient blankets and towels. Though we didn't have time to make use of them, the bus also offered kitchen amenities, including a stove. Common-use restrooms and showers were clean, fully functional, and quite comfortable.
The setting at the foot of Mt. Esja was breathtaking and looking out the bus window from my bed at 3 AM to see the fully lit mountain only steps away was a sight I will never forget. An early morning hike partway up the mountain, begun directly from our bus, was another highlight of our visit.
Our only regret was that we had only one night to enjoy Esjan but we cannot wait to return and recommend it highly as an alternative to the traditional vacation stay!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night in July 2018. Prior to our trip, he had asked me to find "the weirdest places to stay in Iceland" - so that's what I googled and this came up! These buses and this location absolutely blew me away. We knew we were getting into something unique but wow, the buses are so cozy and well built and just completely charming. The view out the window towards the mountains was spectacular. The bath house was quite nice and comfortable. We felt spoiled staying here! It's about 20-30 minutes outside Reykjavik, easy to find, and super easy if you're spending your day touring Reykjavik but want to stay here as well.
I would 100% recommend staying here both because it's comfortable and a wonderful stay, but also because it's completely unique!

We stayed in the Esjan bus over Christmas and had the most amazing experience, two short buses from Reykjavik (30 mins) heated glamping buses with beautiful views and facilities, hot showers, Cockerell, cats n beautiful walks....just perfect!

The converted buses were so adorable and comfortable! The kitchenette was stocked with everything we needed to prepare simple meals but we also had access to the shared grill outside. The bathroom facilities were very clean and well stocked. Best part was waking up at the foot of Mt Esja, watching the ocean waves crashing to shore across the fields with grazing horses and sheep. Simply gorgeous!
