Our room on the second floor was charming, clean and comfortable. Jon is a very helpful host with a great sense of humor. We didn't rent a car in Reykjavik, so we wanted to be able to walk downtown and near the harbor. The Butterfly Guesthouse is perfect for this.
We LOVED our stay at the Butterfly Guesthouse! Jon is a wonderful host and our upstairs apartment was cozy, clean and comfortable. The location is perfect: 5 minute walks to the harbor, the 'old city' and Bus Stop #1, (super convenient for tour and shuttle bus pick-ups). Our apartment was sunny with a private bathroom and kitchenette- perfect for the 3 of us. Coffee, tea and milk were kindly stocked and fresh towels and trash removal were provided twice during the week. Food is fresh and delicious in Iceland but expensive, so we appreciated being able to cook a few meals; that said, local restaurant options were varied and excellent and every meal was fantastic. We did not use the radiators in August, but hot water was plentiful and comes from geothermal sources, (renewable energy hooray!) The hot water everywhere smells a bit like sulfur coming out of the faucet but leaves NO smell on skin, hair or clothing. (Just don't use for cooking or consumption). Cold water is sourced differently and is safe to drink in Iceland. We needed no cabs or public transportation in the city and our furthest walk to the BSI bus station for departure Covid tests was 20 minutes through a beautiful park, (testing is quick, efficient, hygienic and professional- prebook appointments online). Again -Jon is an A+ host who met us on arrival. We loved our trip and look forward to returning to the Butterfly Guesthouse in the future- as so many past guests have done. Thank you Jon!!…
Loved my Top floor Eyre under the Dormers with a Balcony! I had a private kitchen and bathroom. Everything was spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable. The rooms were bright and airy. The blinds can be adjusted for a good night's sleep.
I stayed at the Butterfly Guesthouse with my family last year, and we would definitely stay here again. Jon made us feel at home and provided helpful tips. My 4 year-old child really enjoyed the stay and still speaks about the good memories of staying at the Butterfly house. I meant to write this positive review earlier, better late than never. I recommend this guesthouse for the excellent value and location. Thank you Jon.
I spent last weekend at Butterfly Guesthouse. Again. It’s always easy to choose Butterfly Guesthouse, I am guaranteed friendly professional service, a really clean house, great location and friendly greetings from Jon, the owner. Since my first visit, I’ve always been happy to return. I’ve stayed in several of the rooms, and they’re all comfortable and very clean. Did I say that it was clean? And I’m pretty fussy. This time it was the weekend of the marathon and culture night. I was bringing a friend, who usually stays in high-end hotels. She was really happy with Butterfly Guesthouse. And she raved about how close it was to everything. I could’ve said ‘I told you so’ but instead I was just happy to share my discovery with her. We went to so many things nearby: Harpa three times and whenever we needed to pop by for something or return for a short break, Butterfly Guesthouse with nearby. I was sad to leave, Iceland is beginning to feel like home, and Butterfly Guesthouse is part of that.…
We had a lovely room over looking the street with a half bath. Owner Jon met us when we arrived and showed us around. Location is perfect, but walking across the City takes 30 minutes or less. We would absolutely stay at this location again!
I surprised my husband with a weekend away to Iceland to see the northern lights. I booked this guesthouse because of the wonderful reviews and its location. I chose the apartment with private bathroom and kitchen. Very glad I chose this as facilities were excellent. The shower was perfect and being able to cook food with the hob and oven made our stay more affordable. The apartment was large, bed was comfy, and there was a table and chairs to sit on. We were a short walk away from the town and bus stops and there is a shop just on the corner. Didn't meet the owner Jon as we arrived very late Friday and was busy sightseeing Sat and Sun but he left us clear instructions and emailed before our trip which made me feel very welcome. If i visit again I will definitely stay at the butterfly guesthouse.…
An ideal location and a wonderful host ! Butterfly Guesthouse is extremely close to the city centre of Reykjavik. It is located in a neighbourhood of Icelandic homes, not just hotels . It is spotlessly clean and quiet, and the atmosphere inside the house is fantastic. Guests can meet in the brand new kitchen (each room has their own shelf in the fridge) or relax in the lovely lounge. I had a double room with private bathroom and it was perfect (the bed was extremely comfortable). Jon is the best host I have ever met : he does everything in his power to make his guests happy and satisfied and he is the kindest person. A note for solo female travellers : Butterfly Guesthouse is the perfect place to stay and the area is very safe (as is Reykjavik and Iceland in general).
We stayed for 5 nights in Butterfly Guesthouse in July 2019, and we had an excellent stay ! We booked a double room with a shared bathroom. The room was very comfortable, and there was no problem with other guests to use the bathroom. The bathroom is well equipped, as well as the common kitchen. There is everything you might need for breakfast or if you wish to cook yourself dinner. The living room was very comfortable as well (nice game of chess !). Jon is very welcoming and makes you feel at home during your stay. The location is also very good, as it is right next to the old harbour. It's easy to walk to the harbour or the city center. Thank you, it has been a great stay in Reykjavik and we really enjoyed Butterfly Guesthouse !
We stayed in the upstairs apartment, which was comfortable for our two adults and two children. All the main sites in central Reykjavik were in walking distance. Having a full kitchen made our stay much easier. Most of all, we cannot say enough about the kind support from Jon, who helped us sort out logistical issues and provided great local suggestions. Jon was even kind enough to have our washing done. Overall, we highly recommend the Guesthouse.
