We LOVED our stay at the Butterfly Guesthouse! Jon is a wonderful host and our upstairs apartment was cozy, clean and comfortable. The location is perfect: 5 minute walks to the harbor, the 'old city' and Bus Stop #1, (super convenient for tour and shuttle bus pick-ups). Our apartment was sunny with a private bathroom and kitchenette- perfect for the 3 of us. Coffee, tea and milk were kindly stocked and fresh towels and trash removal were provided twice during the week. Food is fresh and delicious in Iceland but expensive, so we appreciated being able to cook a few meals; that said, local restaurant options were varied and excellent and every meal was fantastic. We did not use the radiators in August, but hot water was plentiful and comes from geothermal sources, (renewable energy hooray!) The hot water everywhere smells a bit like sulfur coming out of the faucet but leaves NO smell on skin, hair or clothing. (Just don't use for cooking or consumption). Cold water is sourced differently and is safe to drink in Iceland. We needed no cabs or public transportation in the city and our furthest walk to the BSI bus station for departure Covid tests was 20 minutes through a beautiful park, (testing is quick, efficient, hygienic and professional- prebook appointments online). Again -Jon is an A+ host who met us on arrival. We loved our trip and look forward to returning to the Butterfly Guesthouse in the future- as so many past guests have done. Thank you Jon!!

Loved my Top floor Eyre under the Dormers with a Balcony! I had a private kitchen and bathroom. Everything was spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable. The rooms were bright and airy. The blinds can be adjusted for a good night's sleep.

This was our third trip to Iceland and our third stay at the Butterfly Guesthouse. I would definitely return again. We (a couple and a friend) stayed in a cozy self-contained apartment on the third floor from June 10-18, visiting the local sites in Reykjavik and waiting for the best day to hike to the active Fagradalsfjall eruption site. The owner brought us food for the first day while we waited for the results of our Covid-19 test, which was required upon entry to Iceland. We received the results in 4 hours but it was great to know that the proprietor was willing to bring us more food if we would have remained longer in quarantine. The Butterfly Guesthouse is in a quiet neighborhood only a few blocks from downtown Reykjavik within easy walking distance of the harbor, the Seltjarnanes peninsula, the Hallgrimskirkja, a public swimming pool, and lots of good restaurants (we recommend Forrettabarinn, just around the corner, for good local food and beer - best to make a reservation). Blue car rental (a good local car rental company) is only a 10-minute walk away when you want to rent a car for some day trips and it's easy to find free parking a few blocks west of the apartment. The Butterfly Guesthouse is only a few blocks from bus stops that allow cheap and entertaining travel throughout the city on Straeto, the public transit systems. You can also take the FlyBusfrom Keflavik airport to the City Hall bus stop (and back when you depart) - only a few blocks from the guesthouse - why risk driving when you are suffering from jet lag?. Our host was a good source of information about local culture, politics, and sights worth visiting in the area (a stay in Reykjavik is a good way to rest up before setting out to visit other parts of Iceland). We'll probably be back for a visit in the next few years and will use the Butterfly Guesthouse as a launching pad for more travels in Iceland.

I stayed at the Butterfly Guesthouse with my family last year, and we would definitely stay here again. Jon made us feel at home and provided helpful tips. My 4 year-old child really enjoyed the stay and still speaks about the good memories of staying at the Butterfly house. I meant to write this positive review earlier, better late than never. I recommend this guesthouse for the excellent value and location. Thank you Jon.

I spent last weekend at Butterfly Guesthouse. Again. It’s always easy to choose Butterfly Guesthouse, I am guaranteed friendly professional service, a really clean house, great location and friendly greetings from Jon, the owner. Since my first visit, I’ve always been happy to return. I’ve stayed in several of the rooms, and they’re all comfortable and very clean. Did I say that it was clean? And I’m pretty fussy. This time it was the weekend of the marathon and culture night. I was bringing a friend, who usually stays in high-end hotels. She was really happy with Butterfly Guesthouse. And she raved about how close it was to everything. I could’ve said ‘I told you so’ but instead I was just happy to share my discovery with her. We went to so many things nearby: Harpa three times and whenever we needed to pop by for something or return for a short break, Butterfly Guesthouse with nearby. I was sad to leave, Iceland is beginning to feel like home, and Butterfly Guesthouse is part of that.
