Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik City Centre is often celebrated for its cleanliness, modern atmosphere, and central location perfect for exploring local attractions. The hotel's amenities, including Nespresso machines and a rooftop terrace, receive positive remarks, though some guests suggest enhancements like better temperature control. While the inclusive breakfast is a hit, the issue of street noise is a recurring concern among travelers, impacting both sleep quality and overall perceived value. Additionally, while service is generally regarded as friendly, there have been instances of unprofessional conduct noted by guests.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this wonderful hotel. It is right in the center of town, walkable to all the main sights in Reykjavik and many restaurants, cafes, and bars. Really cute interior. We especially enjoyed the complimentary "local food/drink" tasting that runs Thurs - Sat in the restaurant. Bartender also mentioned that as guests of the hotel we get happy hour prices during our entire stay. Breakfast buffet was plentiful and fairly reasonable for $32 per person. As a trade off for the location, beware that it won't be completely silent at night. We had a room facing the back, and even still it was a little noisy at night, especially on Saturday with people barhopping. After Saturday we only heard the sound of cars passing in the evening. As for comfort, we kept the window open during our entire stay. I think it would have been a little warm in the room with it closed. Hotel was accommodating with offering me a late checkout and storing my luggage before leaving for the airport. Overall I would definitely return here when visiting Iceland.

Great modern hotel in city center

PROs
- Location, Location, Location - you can walk to many places in the city center
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Rooms have black out curtains (which is essential in the summer)

CONs
- None, great hotel in our experience

TIPS FOR TRAVELLERS
- If you are driving a car beware there is no onsite hotel parking. There is a parking garage right across the street but if you are parking overnight beware that the garage does not open till 7am. We had an early morning flight and had to leave at 4am which meant that we had to find street parking, whilst not impossible it does take some time to drive around since you are in the city center and you may have to park several blocks from the hotel.

My daughter and I spent four nights at the Canopy, and loved everything about it. First, the décor! There are several little lounges scattered about the hotel, so if you want to sit and enjoy a drink or just relax, you won't be in a busy crowded lobby. The furniture is minimalist, with soft lighting and a Scandinavian vibe.
We had wonderful breakfasts at the buffet, including smoked salmon with dill sauce, croissants as good as I've had in Paris (with Nutella, yum), eggs, a variety of meats, roasted potatoes, skyr and yogurt, fruit juices including ginger shots (try one!), fresh coffee with warm milk, and a wide variety of fresh fruits.
Our room was super comfortable, well-heated with firm beds, a desk, plenty of luggage and clothing storage, a safe, and Nespresso machine. The staff even projected my name on the television screen - nice welcome.
The bathroom had a roomy walk-in shower, high-quality shampoo, conditioner, soap and body lotion.
On top of all that, the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful; they called our tour operators to verify times and pick-up spots. If you do an Icelandic package, your bus stop will be number 6, just a five-minute walk from the hotel. Downtown is one block the other way, loaded with restaurants, bars and classy gift shops.
Even though we didn't catch the Northern Lights, we really enjoyed our stay.

Firstly the positives, the hotel is in a great location, near the centre, harbour and bus stop 6 where many tours had a pick up. The room was clean and modern.

The negatives: we booked a premium twin room for my teenager and myself. We arrived before check in time and were told our room was not ready, they would call when it was. We received no call so went back after check in time and it was ready. They tried to give us a king room, not what we booked and no way my teen and I could share a bed. The receptionist rolled her eyes at me and told me I got what I booked and the hotel was full. She kept us waiting over an hour while she “got her manager to look into it” (no sign of any manager) and for the whole time continued to roll her eyes and very obviously talk about us to her colleagues. (I should add that I was in no way rude despite their error)

We finally got our “premium room” that was overlooking a service area. Noisy with early deliveries and trash collections. No view other than that.

The room was boiling hot with heating on that could not be turned off or adjusted, we were given a desk fan that did nothing to cool the room when we asked at reception about lowering the temperature. We kept the window open and it was cool outside but this did nothing to lower the temperature.

Breakfast was a very average buffet, no omelettes or scrambled egg or sausages and the fried eggs were cold.

A shame that this hotel was let down by this very rude (female) receptionist and rooms that were too hot to be comfortable as it’s in a great location

I took a mother-daughter trip to Reykjavik and stayed at this fabulous hotel. The staff were friendly, the rooms and public spaces were immaculate, and the breakfast buffet was wonderful. Foods were clearly marked with allergy information. I have celiacs, and was delighted that they had gluten free bread, which they kept covered so there was less chance of cross contamination. We were celebrating my daughter’s 40th birthday, and were treated to wine and full sized candy bars. Finally, the hotel was wonderfully located just steps away from the main shopping street in Reykjavik, and close to the bus stop where we picked up our tours. I HIGHLY recommend a stay at this hotel-and a visit to Iceland.

If you don't want to get any sleep then this is the place for you

Firstly I want to say that the staff are brilliant

When we arrived the woman at reception acknowledged that I had written in and requested a quiet room in our category (something I do on a regular basis)

We were then offered an upgrade as she warned us that our original booking faced the main street and people coming home drunk would wake us up

For an extra ÂŁ180 for both nights we declined the upgrade. It was already a pricey hotel for us

1) The room was under the restaurant and late into the evening and early the next morning we could hear furniture being moved around making that awful screetchy sound. When I phoned reception to and requested them to ask the staff in the restaurant to be a little more careful I was informed that they were busy but she would see what she could do

2). The receptionist was right, until about 5am people were walking outside our bedroom window screaming at the top of their voices

3). The room was so hot but we could not even open the window as it was a choice between noise or heat

What a shame it is a beautifully designed hotel with great staff and if lack of sleep or noise don't bother you than this is the place for you

This hotel and it's location continues to amaze me. The staff is super friendly, and the location is perfect! You are literally within walking distance to many dining establishments and activities! The view from some of the rooms is breath taking so be sure to ask for a room with an ocean view!

The front desk area is small but efficient! The staff is very friendly and they can even help you organize tours! Across from the desk is a small sitting area, and a snackbar. You can get reasonably priced sandwiches, muffins, drinks, etc and just take it to the desk for purchase. There area also 3 elevators near the desk that you can take, and they are all secure and require a room key to operate!

The rooms are small, but also very comfortable! The doors are safe with multiple locks. The bed also has electrical outlets on each side, and a small night stand and clock.

The breakfast is one of the best I have seen! There is a variety of items to choose from and the food is also very well cooked! There area also a multitude of drinks to select (orange juice, cranberry, apple, water, etc) and plenty of fruits for the healthier eaters!:-)

I didn't see any direct connections, but the WiFi is very strong and fast! We were even able to stream some programs on our devices and it was not a problem! The WiFi is free and did not require any codes or passwords.

The hotel is relatively quiet if you are able to get a room away from any hallway doors. The housekeeping staff is also very quiet and friendly. Everyone that we passed said hello and wanted to ensure that we were having a great stay!

Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to all of my friends. The location offers you everything that you may need (dining, shopping, views, etc), or you can just stay in the hotel and have everything if you are doing a working business meeting!

Just 200 metres from an airport bus drop-off stop, this hotel provides all that is necessary for a short term stay. The rooms are small, even cramped in our case as sitting at the writing desk severely restricted movement at the foot of the bed. The beds are excellent and offer really good sleep quality and the room generally provides all the amenities one would wish for. The gym on the lowest floor is rarely used so consequently the machines are in good condition. Staff are friendly and perform well at their respect tasks. If I had one criticism it would be that the meal menu is limited: after several days we grew tired of the same choices. Many shops and restaurants are located within a few hundred metres and for those more capable of pedestrianism, so are many of the city sights.

The hotel was chosen by my son as he wanted to treat me to a delayed 60th birthday present. You are dropped off a little way from the hotel due to the narrow roads. Make sure you have suitcases with wheels as you have to go uphill.
The interior is very contemporary. The receptionists were very welcoming and fluent in English. There was a bit of a mix up regarding the room. They wanted to give my son and I a double bed (not happening!). As soon as the girl realised we were mother and son she arranged for us to leave our luggage in their office and we went for a stroll for an hour so they could sort something out. We expected a couple of single rooms but no, we were upgraded to the King Suite. Wow! We each had a double bed. The bathroom had underfloor heating. We also had a balcony.
The layout of the hotel was a little confusing as we had to take a lift up to the top, then walk along a corridor and take another lift up one floor to our room. The lift opened directly in front of our door. This lift also took us directly down to the restaurant for breakfast. That was a vast array of food. As we were out on tours each day we made sure to eat well.
Icelanders make phenomenal coffee by the way!
One thing to remember is regarding the taps. The hot water comes from geothermal sources and is HOT. The cold water is from glacial sources and is pure. Don't bother with bottles from the shop.
I loved the hotel. It was exceptional and it made the trip truly amazing.
We even saw the Nothern Lights from the balcony!

We spent one night at the Hilton. It's one of the newer concepts and you enter through what appears to be a coffee bar. The check in desk is to the side. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Our room was fair sized with huge windows. The bathroom was lovely and the shower was great. Downstairs there is a very nice restaurant.
The back of the hotel faces a courtyard and there is a bar on the other side. That bar shuts down late so you might want to request a room as far as away as possible.
The Canopy has a great location for walking around downtown Reykjavik and is within a couple blocks of the church and very nice shops.

We didn't have a bathtub. Don't know about other rooms. I do know in the last two years we've covered a lot of territory and had exactly one bathtub and that was in a suite in Scotland.
