Beautiful cottages with private facilities in Husavik, the Whale watching Capital of Europe. Excellent location on the scenic "Diamond Ring Road": The Husavik-Dettifoss-Myvatn-Husavik round-trip journey. The location is extraordinary as it has breathtaking view, abundant bird-life, spectacular nature and wildlife, country comfort and urban activities and service in town. A unique mixture of country comfort and urban live.

Beautiful area which is home to many birds. Very cozy cottages which have a great front deck space to enjoy the many birds in the lagoon and fantastic views of the fjord and opposite mountains. Cottages were very clean and inviting. Kitchen worked well for preparing meals. We would have liked to have stayed longer. Very close to Husavik and all of its amenities. Horse riding next door, utilizing the bird lagoon area.

A wonderful place. A cozy cottage surrounded by lots of birds. An ecxellent place for birders. We had a breakfast basket brought to our cottage and got everything we asked for. It was nice sitting in the hot tub in the middle of nature. We were sorry to leave when our four nights were up.

We returned here for good reason, this time to a one-bed cottage. Everything was just as good as our Sept 2021 stay. Timings meant we used to contactless check-in and check-out and that all went seamlessly. The cottage was great - everything we needed, but the location is just awesome; mirror-like lakes, beautiful grasslands and birds, the distant bay and snow-capped mountains. And you can take all this in from a hot tub! Wish it was closer to home, but we'll be back. Thank you Kaldbaks-kot cottages.

Claustrofobic, Dangerous ladder to go up, Everything looks old, no view despite the wonderful area,, only bushes around, nobody takes care of the nature around, everything looks like abandoned... Old duvet in.beds, no space ti move in the cottage, maybe ok for One night but I would not stay for 2. There is so much better in Iceland....Not recommended!

Unfortunately, Simona booked through a travel agency which booked the house using a wholesale website under Expedia. She was informed that she would stay in a different house type than what this travel agency booked with us, therefore her expectations were not met when she entered in our house with attic. Without contacting us regarding this issue, she wrote this review in 3 different sites around the internet, within her first hour in the house . Our houses are described to detail in all platforms where we have set them up and all our guests get a thorough and honest description of what are they getting. The house with attic has no view, as is stated wherever it is offered. Nature is our number one priority that is why some houses have no views: because we give priority to our beloved trees. Finally Simona stayed for 2 nights even though she was offered to vacate and a full refund. She was happier after some hours in the compound, and told us that she would update this review. Hopefully, one day she finds the time. We hope that Simona and her family had a good time in Iceland, as in the end they seemed to enjoy themselves quite fine at Kaldbaks-kot. All the best; Benni and Elena

My friend and I are avid bird photographers and this was our 4th visit to Kaldbaks-kots. We stayed in the 1 bedroom once and it was way to small for us and our camera gear/suitcases but the other times we rented the 2 bedroom cottage and it was perfect. The scenery is superb and the bird life is wonderful. Cottage are simple but clean and functional. There is no oven so any prepared foods must be skillet or microwavable. Nice big fridge. Good wi-fi and parking. Lots of dishes and cutlery. They were very responsive to our request for more sheets (they had assumed we were a same sex couple and only got the double room ready but we are friends and wanted separate beds) and a power bar for our computers and battery chargers. Absolutely amazing fish and chips in Husavik on the waterfront. I am a very fussy Nova Scotian when it comes to fish and chips and these are the best! Easy drive to Lake Myvatn.

Room Tip: Get the 2 bedroom cottage even if you are a couple. They are much bigger yet still perfect for 2.

A 2 week round-trip brought us to this wonderfully place for 4 nights. Although you can easily stay longer because of plenty things to see and do. Great hospitality, taking care of details( a new bbq arrived in 1 day after 1 small remark of having no bbq) . Check in and out without worry, verry communicativ while booking. Best to book directly. Cabin nr 7 has an unspoiled view over the lake, ocean en snow top mountains. Cabin was not new but clean and well equipped, all the rest such as location, view, silence and many birds in direct surroundings gives you double satisfaction. I recommend this venue to travelers wo are looking for just that extra Iceland feeling, you will find it here definitely. I would go back if I travel again in the north.

These cottages are in an unbelievably beautiful spot overlooking lakes, sea and snow-covered mountains. At this time of year the views are only enhanced by fields and banks of purple/blue lupine. We are into wildlife photography and this is way way better than the famous Lake Myvatyn (far fewer flies and straight out of the front door). For birders and everyone who loves nature, you cannot get better than this. Paths go from forest to lake to the cliff tops and beaches. Sitting in heather-carpeted fields that run down to the sea watching nesting Arctic terns dive and swoop was once in a lifetime. The cottages are very well equipped. One very welcome aspect is plenty of plugs! A cosy home from home that didn’t feel in the least claustrophic. It is a five minute drive from Husavik which is charming with whale watching and restaurants. We stayed for six nights and had a magical time. Thank you!

Dear Janet; Thank you very much for your beautiful words. It is such a pleasure to read this kind of reviews because it is a lovely feeling when people experience our place in the same place we do. We love to follow up the life of our birds, the change of our flora, the colours of the sky... Hope to see you again! Kind regards for both of you; Elena

Really great stay , we loved the #12 cabin, it was spacious for a 4 night stay. We were looking for a quiet, peaceful retreat and this was it. All we could hear were the many nesting birds and ducks, with their ducklings in June. We loved having the grill, all set up and ready to use. We loved having access to the little rowboat and the inflatable kayak, which we used each day. You can row quietly in the calm water and watch the baby chicks. After our stay we determined this was the BEST place to stay while basing ourselves in HUsavik. So close to town, but feels miles away.

Being a local person in quarantine Kaldbaks-kot Cottages was a perfect place for me to stay alone there for a week! Allowed to go out for a walk, this area is a paradise in every way. The cabin is cozy with everything needed and the host and the staff willing to assist in any way. Tourist or not, this place is a truly paradise.
