Beautiful cottages with private facilities in Husavik, the Whale watching Capital of Europe. Excellent location on the scenic "Diamond Ring Road": The Husavik-Dettifoss-Myvatn-Husavik round-trip journey. The location is extraordinary as it has breathtaking view, abundant bird-life, spectacular nature and wildlife, country comfort and urban activities and service in town. A unique mixture of country comfort and urban live.

We loved staying in our cottage on the water! Gorgeous views right from our porch, cozy living space and comfortable beds, all just a km from beautiful Husavik with its famous whale watching tours and an easy drive to popular sites like Godafoss, Dettifoss and Selfoss waterfalls and more. Also perfect viewing for auroras! We definitely recommend you spring for the breakfast basket filled with fresh, delicious breakfast favorites, delivered right to your door. Our hosts were welcoming and attentive and obviously take pride in the property.
Side note for Fire Saga fans…make sure you visit filming sites throughout Husavik including one right near the cottages, and the little bar, Ja Ja Ding Dong which has a fun museum dedicated to the movie and Eurovision Song Contest.
Whatever your reason for visiting the area, we highly recommend Kaldbaks-kot Cottages!

A 2 week round-trip brought us to this wonderfully place for 4 nights. Although you can easily stay longer because of plenty things to see and do. Great hospitality, taking care of details( a new bbq arrived in 1 day after 1 small remark of having no bbq) .
Check in and out without worry, verry communicativ while booking. Best to book directly. Cabin nr 7 has an unspoiled view over the lake, ocean en snow top mountains. Cabin was not new but clean and well equipped, all the rest such as location, view, silence and many birds in direct surroundings gives you double satisfaction.
I recommend this venue to travelers wo are looking for just that extra Iceland feeling, you will find it here definitely.
I would go back if I travel again in the north.

More than the comforts of home in our cute cottage, was it the warm welcome and smile from Elena that made this one of the nicest stays we’ve ever had? Was it the hand delivered breakfast basket with such thoughtfulness in the food chosen, wrapped up in warm dish towels? Or was it the hand written note that made us feel so welcomed. All of the above I’d say. Thank you!

We rented 2 cottages for 2 nights, each for 1 person. Besides being badly maintained 20 years after having been built, with bird droppings on the balcony and dangerous with electric cables hanging out, the bedroom in each cottage was the size of a cupboard (3 walls adjacent to the beds), without bed lining. The bathrooms were ridiculously small with a non-hygienic curtain around the shower. Those cottages claim to have beautiful bay views, which was certainly not the case for one of our 2 cottages. At 11,000 ISK a night per cottage, the value was bad considering the poor state of those cottages and the lack of proper kitchen equipment.
Furthermore, after I had written a first review with a rating of 2, the furious owner unethically called our guide who blackmailed me to have it removed. It was the first time in my life such a brutal censorship was imposed on me. I therefore downgraded the rating to 1.

Response from Kaldbaks-kot Owner, Owner at Kaldbaks-kot Cottages
Responded May 14, 2021
Dear Mr. François-Olivier, Thank you for staying with us and for providing this detailed review - it will help us moving forward. We are sorry that your experience was not up to expectations. Luckily we are immersed in nature with thousands of birds nesting around the cottages and lakes. An occasional bird dropping that has not been cleaned from the veranda is unavoidable, and a small price to pay, in our opinion. Our cottages are small, cozy and with some quirks - we are not afraid to admit (and even take some pride in!) that. Each cottage is unique with its own interior atmosphere and slightly different but beautiful views over the mountains, lakes and the bay. But you are correct, some have limited visibility of the sea itself (either due to the terrain or potentially vegetation, especially late in a good summer with the new growth spurts in the way). Unfortunately we have failed to provide you with the necessary detailed information, and therefore your expectations were obviously not met. We humbly apologize for letting you down. But the cottages are now in excellent condition (no electrical cables hanging out etc.) and hygienic, of that we can assure you. Finally, the cottages are under new ownership and management. We are as shocked by the actions of the previous owner as you are... You are welcome back any time to give us another chance :) Best regards, Benedikt

I've been to Husavik 3 times now in 6 years. Its the place to go in Iceland for whale watching. My first time I stayed at these cottages with their beautiful wood interior and view of the bay and mountains. The original couple that built them have recently sold them to their son. I had a bedroom just big enough for the bed, the main room had a kitchenette, table, couch with a cabin sized bathroom. Outside is a porch with chairs and a view. Its a cosy set up but for me its perfect. I was greeted by Halldis, a wonderfully friendly young woman with delightful children who was running the place for the summer. The original retired owner was there to share memories from my past visits. You can opt for an excellent breakfast each day as you like. There are natural hot tubs on site nearby. Each cabin is spaced so you feel there is only you in this lovely setting. All you hear is bird life as the cottages are about 5 minutes outside of Husavik. Everything I needed was provided. All my cares were washed away. I highly recommend Kaldbaks-kot Cottages and I will be back.

Beautiful remote cottage on the Arctic Ocean. Our cabin was beautiful, two bedrooms, very clean, with a lovely little kitchen with all the essentials. The breakfast that delivered was more than enough for a couple days brought to us by a picturesque basket placed on the porch. The sunsets from the porch over the ocean or spectacular. I managed to even get an arctic char fishing in the pond in front, which I cooked for dinner one night. The location is amazing close to geosea spa, whale, watching and horseback riding at Saltvik. What an incredible place something out of the fairytale highly recommend this.

Set in beautiful countryside only minutes from Husavik and overlooking the bay these rustic little cottages have everything you need to enjoy Icelandic nature at its best. This was our favourite stay on our ring road trip. The lake and marshes outside our cabin were idyllic and peaceful. If you go, take some binoculars as we could see a pod of pilot whales in the bay from the porch. Icelandic ponies nearby too. And to top it all there are hot tubs for the guests scattered around the site. When we come back, we'll do longer. Thanks you Kaldbaks-Kot !!

We loved our stay in a two bedroom cottage for two nights. The cottages are very nicely designed and decorated and the kitchens are well equipped. The weather was terrible while we were there so we did not get to appreciate the views too much but its a great location and very close to Husavik which had great restaurants and cafes. While our whale watching trip was cancelled because of storms (two days in a row) we went horse back riding in the rain and enjoyed the whale museum. We liked this area better than Lake Myvatn where we stayed one night. If I had it to do over again I would stay here three nights and make a day trip to Myvatn. I would definitely return. Lovely place and the staff were helpful and welcoming.

We were three 'old' friends staying in a two room cottage and it was amazing!! We had about the worlds best view and everything we needed was in the cottage (off course with exception for food and personal stuff). The beds were comfy and the place was clean. Outside there was amazing wildlife especially birds on the ground. A small walk could result in more than 12 species and over the two nights we saw about 26 different species on the ground. In the bay of Husavik there was whales, seal and puffins as well as other seabirds. We saw two humpbacks on our trip and a greenland seal. The breakfast at Kaldbak was lovely and the host was there to greet us every morning and willing to find extra of about everything. One of us is gluten allergic and this was sorted in the finest manor. We also used one of the three hotpots in the area - also this had a great view. We can definitely recommend Kaldbak cottages :-)

Really great stay , we loved the #12 cabin, it was spacious for a 4 night stay. We were looking for a quiet, peaceful retreat and this was it. All we could hear were the many nesting birds and ducks, with their ducklings in June. We loved having the grill, all set up and ready to use. We loved having access to the little rowboat and the inflatable kayak, which we used each day. You can row quietly in the calm water and watch the baby chicks. After our stay we determined this was the BEST place to stay while basing ourselves in HUsavik. So close to town, but feels miles away.

Dear Happy Traveler.
We are only one kilometer away from urban Husavik town, where you can go whale watching, angling, horseriding, swimming, or hiking.
Many activities are within easy reach from our cottages, including golfing, bird watching, berry picking and free fishing (30 meters to the lake). A natural warm bath is nearby. You can also visit Husavik's museums and restaurants or take a refreshing walk around the lakes or up to the hills.
Many of the most spectacular and interesting places in Iceland are within 100 km radius from Husavik, on the scenic 260 km long “Diamond Circle” (The Husavik - Dettifoss Myvatn Husavik round trip journey)
Unfortunately we are not a good choice for a one night stay. We would rather not take bookings for one night these days. This is the short high season and there are so many guests that want to stay 4 or 5 nights. We have a minimum of 2 nights, mainly because one night would very often interfere with our guests, who come for a longer stay.
I recommend that you order a hotel room in Husavik where made up bed and breakfast is included.
Hope to see you some other day for a longer stay.
Thank you for your inquiry.
Unfortunately we do not have availability
Best regards
Snaedis
