Detailed Reviews
Unfortunately my rental car broke down in the neighbourhood. The one good thing about it was that I got to know this place and certainly want to go back there! Friendly owners, who take really good care of the rooms and surroundings, very tasty breakfast, wonderful area to go hiking, and not too far from the larger city of Höfn. Would give more than 5 stars if possible!

This guesthouse is nicely located near Jökulsárlón(pick up location for many tour companies). It is right off the ring road 1. Away from town makes it a great location to view Northern Lights if they appear.
Also, we had booked a snowmobile tour, the pick up point of which was a hotel hardly 5 mins drive away from the guesthouse
We stayed in a room (room#1) with private bathroom the first night. The room was clean but a little too tight for two people and their luggage. There was a TV with free Netflix on it. The room had electric hot water kettle for tea/coffee
We moved to a family cottage for the second night. This was spacious for two people with a seating area and a dining area. However, I expected it to be an upgrade over the previous room. But the cottage had no TV, no electric hot water kettle. It had a basic kitchenette with induction stove, a small refrigerator but no microwave.
The breakfast had a number of items but no hot items (like scrambled/fried eggs, warm oatmeal/potatoes etc.)
The dinner was better. I liked the fact that the lamb came with a good serving of veggies like peas and beets
The Wi-Fi strength was decent in room#1 but was on the weaker side in the family cottage

we spent one night in the newer part of Skalafell Guesthouse. The rooms have a nice size, good beds and the bathroom, quite big for this kind of category. The Guesthouse is a family run business and the owners are very friendly. The dinner they served is simple homemade cooking, but on best level. Very tasty and with fresh ingredients. The guesthouse is situated in a beautiful environment, with a waterfall just in the front and the glacier in the back.

We felt at home the minute we arrived at Guesthouse Skalafell. The room was great, clean and cozy. We enjoyed dinner on site, it was fresh and delicious, as was the continental breakfast in the morning Great location between Hofn and the Glacier Lagoon, right off the Ring Road. Highly recommend.

I stayed in one of the “cabins”, not the main building. It was great to sit in the room and look out over the river as it made its way to the ocean. This is one of the widest valleys in the area so the river really spread out across a broad area. The shower was great, always a big plus after a day of hiking. The breakfast area was comfortable for the number of guests who were dining.
There is a trailhead leaving from the same parking lot as the guesthouse. I didn’t figure that out until the day I was leaving. Next time, I will plan to take the 3-4 hour hike.
I was happy to have booked two nights in this location. There were plenty of things to see and do within a short drive. It takes some time to figure out all of the places to visit along the ring road. I strongly recommend reading up on that in advance so that you can make the most of the visit. There were so many trails close to this guesthouse that I could have easily stayed longer to enjoy them.

Guesthouse Skalafell offers double rooms with private bath in a newly constructed 4 room motel style unit on a working sheep farm. There are also cabins for larger parties.
It was unbelievably beautiful to see a broad expanse of green, dotted by sheep, from our picture window to the sea. This view was the highlight of our Iceland experience.
We are so glad we stayed here rather than in the town of Hofn. The farm is midway between Hofn and the Jokulsarlon glacial lake, convenient to both.
For the hardy, there is a hike from their property up the mountain to a view of Vatnajokull glacier.
Breakfast buffet (included) has housemade lamb pate and breads in addition to the usual spread and great coffee. Dinner is available some days if you reserve.

We stayed for one night it was ok but I wouldn’t stay any longer.
Pros. Nice rural location on a farm backed by a waterfall… pretty
Friendly staff
Room was ok with 2 comfortable chairs
Bathroom adequate but small
Breakfast was simple but good and varied
Cons
The worst thing was there were quite a few hairs on the sheet and I ended up sleeping on too of the duvet comforter with a travel blanket I had with me . It’s just hard to believe the sheet had been washed properly

I enjoyed my stay. The bungalows were comfortable and cozy. Breakfast was included and there was both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was very friendly and it was nicely located between Jökulsárlón and Höfn. Dining in the area can be a challenge as many places are pretty far and many places do not take reservations.

A beautiful farm from where a great hiking trail leads to the next glacier. The rooms are lovingly and have a view on the river. Because of Covid there were only a few guests. the host couple spared no effort to create a great breakfast and dinner. Homemade jam and liverwurst made breakfast something special.
We appreciate their kindness and hospitality!

Our particular room was compact and modern, but was comfortable and had a sofa bed floor seating to admire the view of the farm.
No minifridge.
Breakfast was average but contrary to their website they do NOT serve dinner...better eat before you get there.
Good access to hiking.

Yes, breakfast is included.
I am not quite sure as I was there in August. Please check with other sources or the guesthouse.
As far as I could remember, the guesthouse is right next to highway. One doesn't need to go off road to get to the destination.
