We stayed here for a four nights on our short vacation and I was near perfect. I would give amazing feedback for the staff who were friendly and accommodating and helpful. The breakfast was very good(European, so no eggs and bacon). And coffee was fantastic....More
I'm not sure about the lovely staff some reviewers seem to talk about - I found the reception staff in particular to be quite rude, especially if they were a younger male. And no, it's not a vibe that I am putting out, as I...More
We arrived at about 10:30am after getting an early flight from the UK. The polite man on reception told us that check in isn’t until 2pm However he can check to see if our room would be ready at an earlier time. It was and...More
Set on a busy road, if you don't get a room at the back you hear everything. The rooms are outdated with very basic amenities. My family would not survive in one of these rooms. It is a drive out of Reykjavik and there are...More
Lovely and friendly staff, very helpful and available 24h. The hotel has a modern bar on the ground floor and our room was big and had a kitchenette.
Breakfast could improved a little in terms of pastries, but good overall.
Great if you are renting...More

I faced that problem in January, as many others have, due to a 7am flight arrival. I contacted the hotel and was told that there were no rooms they could promise would be available for early check-in. That may or may not prove to be the case on your arrival date, but you will need to contact the hotel to confirm their policies. Of course room availability in September can't really be forecast precisely a day ahead, much less 6 months ahead...
Two additional options to consider:
1) Make your reservation to start the previous day (arriving LATE instead of early) or
2) Park your bags at the hotel upon arrival (they will do this) and then take the #1 bus to Reykjavik to take a walking tour, then return at check-in time. A complicating factor is the tour start time, which would need to accommodate your "Flybus" ride from the airport to the hotel and the "Straeto" ride from the stop next to the hotel to downtown. Research would be in order. The hotel sells Straeto passes.
I chose option 1, which worked great. It had been a very long flight, and my wife and I were in no condition to try the second option.

Janet, I had wondered about car hire before we went in January, after seeing the weather & road conditions when we arrived I was glad to have booked excursions, the coach drivers are just so more adapted than us to the local conditions & the trips with grayline pick up & drop off right outside the hotel, if u end up in a blizzard u will totally appreciate someone else being responsible for the driving I think ! The South Island tour & geysers were well worth seeing/doing ,I'm not sure you would benefit from car hire as things are fairly sparse there & doesn't seem an awful lot to stumble across .(I could be wrong of course, just my observations ) . Have a great trip :)
