Travelers' Choice

The trademark of Iceland, the great Geysir, gave the hotel its name and Geysir is situated right outside the front door of the hotel. Haukadalur is one of Iceland's most famous historical sites, both ancient and today. The farmer's son from Haukadalur, Sigurdur Greipsson, founded a sports school in his father's inheritance at Haukadalur, which he operated with his wife Sigrun Bjarnadottir for a period of forty-three years. Today Hotel Geysir is run by descendant of Sigurdur Greipsson, Mar Sigurdsson (youngest son of Sigurdur and Sigrun) and his wife Sigridur Vilhjalmsdottur along with their children, Mabil Groa and Sigurdur. The Geysir-Center, which is directly opposite the geothermal area of Geysir and Strokkur, consists of a whole building complex with elegant restaurants, souvenir shop, outdoor and clothing store, snack shop, Geysir museum with multimedia show and camping area.

Also there is a golf course, fishing, hiking trails, outdoor paradise the Haukadalur woods, Langjokull glacier tours and other activities such as highland tours.

Therefore it is perfect for day trips because of many different possibilities of entertainment. His landmark of Iceland is a spectacular natural phenomenon beyond description. The geothermal field surrounding the Great Geyser is the definitive geyser, having given its name to the geological phenomena. The Strokkur, another famous geyser located nearby, gives a performance every few minutes, shooting a tower of water and steam 30 meters into the air. There are other attractions apart from the magnificent geysers.

For example, Blesi, a hot spring with water the colour of turquoise delights the senses. Walking about this natural wonder, one experiences the intensity of the forces of nature. Night time offers a fascinating view of the bubbling hot springs and the northern lights. A pot of boiling water takes on new dimensions. We place great pride in that all are equally pleased at the arrival and departure and your stay will be pleasant and memorable.Hotel RoomsThe hotel has twenty four double studio rooms in bungalows beside the river and twelve rooms in one wing, just two minutes from the thermal fields. All in all, this has to be the perfect framework for rest, relaxation, and getting charged up for the next activity. Access for disabled people is available both in hotel rooms, restaurants and toilets. The hotel has hot tub indoor with water from the geser, which are good to relax after a walk around the area.

Iceland is an island capable of tempting visitors to a host of activities. One should however not forget that vacations are also for taking advantage of time by relaxing body and soul to the utmost. To reach this level of relaxation it is essential that the surroundings be conducive to this.

It’s a wonderful hotel right outside where all the geysers are going off. The restaurant was marvelous. The breakfast was great. The rooms were very good but the way they designed the shower makes it so half a bathroom get soaking wet. A European thing I believe.

Hotel's Favorite
The hotel is about 300 meters from the Strokkur geyser and hot springs and offers spacious, modern, comfortable room with excellent facilities. The bar and restaurant are excellent We enjoyed delicious Arctic char, Langoustines and pate at the restaurant and the service was friendly and knowledgeable. An overall great evening. Highly recommend.

Great overnight stay at the Hotel Geysir! Arrived after dark (around 8 pm) and room was cozy and warm. Front desk staff was welcoming and helpful. Put in a request for a Northern Lights call and received it at 1045 pm! Beautiful sight to see. Breakfast the next morning was good - not great. Very crowded and one small coffee machine for the caffeine addicts. Room was large, comfortable, configured for 2 twin beds. Slept well and with no issues. Shower was hot, water pressure good and floor was heated. All in all a great stay!

A business-class hotel with an above average breakfast buffet. I really appreciate that they made the twin bed/sofa bed for my son before we arrived. My son says it was comfortable! The king bed was also fantastic. The bathroom was well stocked with products, but I always forget when traveling in Europe to bring a washcloth or luffa. It was unusual not to have a glass enclosure or shower curtain, but it was only a slightly uncomfortable feeling. If possible ask for a room on the 2-3 floors. The first floor rooms are pseudo-below ground level and lack any view. (We were so tired it didn’t matter to us). The hotel has reservations for its restaurant for guests so no need to stress if you can’t get one in advance. Happy hour was enjoyable. The only critique we had is regarding how the restaurant handles requests for Gluten Free made us uneasy (husband is celiac), but he never got sick, so in the end they had a process that worked. Breakfast was my favorite meal (8-10AM) with breakfast to meet any palette. However, the filtered/drip coffee ran out both mornings. Walking across the street to see Geysir and Strokkur was fantastic because we could (and did) go before and after all the city tours came. And only being about 20 minutes from Gullfoss was also beneficial. We don’t think we’ll stay in Geysir again, but if we needed to, we’d stay here.

We loved Geysir Hotel. We had a Junior Suite and a Standard Twin and both rooms were great. We loved the chic, modern feel of the hotel in the midst of an incredible landscape. We enjoyed exploring the geysir area in the evening and morning without the crowds. We also enjoyed shopping at the Geysir Center. Happy Hour, Dinner, and Breakfast were also great. I'm only sorry we were just there one night.

We didn't stay in the hotel but ate at the restaurant. Really lovely food and wonderful service. We had the 3 course set menu which at about £55 a head was good value for Iceland. Would definitely recommend

The hotel is technically fine. The rooms are a decent size. Ours didn't have proper shower as such, just one over the bath. The bath was great though. The décor is very dark and the place is pretty soulless, It's really designed to cater for people staying one night. You pay in advance for the hotel and you pay at the end of meals. Nothing seems to get put on the room so when you check out you have paid everything. There is naturally no mini bar. All the toiletries are bolted to the wall in big bottles. I imagine this is all designed for large tour groups. Food in the restaurant is good as was breakfast. I would stay there again but I wouldn't say the hotel has any character.

We had a tremendous one night stay at Hotel Geysir. Rooms were cosy and beautiful and set up well for a family 3. We had an extra truckle bed for our 11 year old and we all slept very well. The bar had a happy hour, we were happy! Breakfast was outstanding! So much choice all delicious and healthy. We also had an evening meal which was exceptional. I would love to return. It is directly opposite the geysirs so you can watch them spouting as you dine!

This place was gorgeous and just a short walk across the street from the towns namesake. Beautiful room, lovely view with a window seat and wonderful restaurant. Really enjoyed the fancy coffee machine in the room along with the very comfy beds. The bathroom floor would get a little wet after showers due to its design but this was tolerable.
