Helpful pleasant staff. Clean, comfortable warm room with tea/coffee making facilities. Hairdryer. A TV with British stations. Free WIFI. Buffet style breakfast served 7 -10 am. Rooms cleaned daily. A lift would be a definite bonus, but a lovely hotel none the less. Happy hour

Nice clean comfortable room. We would stay here again. We liked the breakfast buffet. My wife calls it the best hotel breakfast in our 10 night Iceland trip. Being in the city, parking is a bit difficult. We were there on the weekend and parked one night at the end of the

Dear BrianClauser, Thank you for taking your time to write a review about your two nights stay at Hotel Nordurland. It's wonderful to see that you felt comfortable in your room and that the cleanliness met our mutual standards. We are thrived to hear that your wife and you enjoyed our breakfast buffet and its variety, as we know that the best way to start the day is with a big breakfast (and a big cup of coffee..). It's unfortunate that you could not take advantage of the hotel's parking area, but luckily parking in Akureyri is free of charge all around town and I'm happy to see that you found a spot close by. We hope that you have some great memories from your time in the north and we wish to see you with us again in the future. On behalf of the hotel staff, Selma Kjartansdóttir Reception Manager

The auroras are tricky, especially trying to watch them from your hotel window. The light pollution from towns and cities make them seem dimmer, and may obcure them completely. It depends on cloud cover and a great many other things as well. My advice is to download the 'My Aurora Forecast App' and get out of town somewhere where it's dark, away from the city lights. Check in, relax and have dinner, and spend the night out on the fjord (parked somewhere safe!) watching the Aurora if it's out. They tend to be lower in the sky to the north, (usually) so drive a bit until you haven't got a mountain in your way. Make a night of it. Bring some blankets and hot chocolate. In the dead of winter they can be seen in midday, but in fall and spring seem to peak (to our eyes) at 12 midnight-4am. (again, they kind of do what they want, so nothing is guaranteed).

Hi Alastair. I’m sure you would be able to eat at the hotel, it’s just that there’s more options in the town centre. Might be best to check directly by email (English is secondary language) with a few places. I think they would be looking for business at that time of the year, but due to snow/ road conditions etc. not all places remain open. Good luck. Anthony
