I avoid shared bathroom as much as I can for obvious reasons. However, I was curious why this place had such high reviews. Putting my penchant for private bathrooms aside, I decided to book this place. And I must say, it is one of our favorite places that we have stayed. First, our room was nice and clean. We never had trouble using the bathroom. There are 2 in our wing. But you can go to other wings that have bathrooms too. Why the 5 star? I think their breakfast is pretty good. We came a little too early and missed the breakfast pizza. I was a little bummed that we missed dinner here because the reviews for the food was quite good. There is a small playground on the premise. Is it better than nothing. They have horses on the premise. You can book horseback riding. I found the price to be slightly expensive as it is 11,900 isk but similar trips in Hella was 9,500 isk. However, you get 10% off as guests. Moreover, you can use the hot tub if you book horseback riding. This goes back to my final point of why this is one of our favorite hotels. The hot tub! We used the hot tub with our kid and saw an amazing view of the water and mountains. It was super relaxing and saved me a small fortune because otherwise we would have tried to go to forest lagoon. So if you stay here, you must eat their food and get into the tub. And maybe hang out with the horses.…
spent three nights here - wonderful location on the fjord, not far from town. Staff friendly and accommodating. Horse rides are a nice amenity. There is also a hot tub. The guesthouse is a former hospital and feels like one. Our room was rather small for two, no chairs, no rugs, and no window screens. Since there are horses on the property, window screens would be nice to keep out the ever present flies. Shared bathrooms have plentiful towels. Breakfast is basic but nothing special- coffee and tea are available all the time. One plus on our stay was the appearance of the aurora-always a treat. This venue is adequate for a night’s stay but for $170 USD per night, could be made just a bit nicer. No room service for multiple night stays. Extra blankets might be needed in winter. Some hot breakfast food would be appreciated.…
Very friendly and welcoming staff. We were given a brief tour upon arrival, rather than being directed to our room. The room has everything you need for a short stay and the shared bathroom facilities were sizeable enough for all the guests in the hotel. The hot pot is very nice with a good view over the fjord. The hotel is located within easy driving distance of Akureyri.
We stayed here with a group of 14 students for several nights. Fantastic location directly at the fjord (whales visible from the hot tub), great breakfast and dinner, super friendly and helpful staff (they even kept the restaurant open after hours for us when we were delayed on one of our excursions), and the cutest Icelandic horses on property. We will definitely come back with another group next year!
We did not stay or eat here, so we can't comment on the rest of the property, although it seemed well maintained and all the staff were exceptionally friendly. Horseback riding was amazing! Our two guides were so thoughtful and did an excellent job engaging our group (including two teenagers) in conversation throughout the ride. We had a beautiful day and the views of the fjord and mountains were outstanding. We highly recommend!
Great location just a short distance from town. The town is lovely, and you can walk along the fjord. Staff very friendly (offered to contact us up to 11pm if Northern Lights were out). Easy parking. Breakfast was delicious. Bathrooms down the hall. All in all a good value and we'd stay again.
This was one of the stops on our tour for horseback riding. The Icelandic horses are a pure breed, relatively small but stout and have a very gentle gait. We had a very nice ride for about 40 minutes. The only problem was we had 14 people who wanted to ride and they had only 9 saddles, including the 2 for the guides so we had to wait for the first half to get back before the second group could ride. It was just poor planning from our tour operator
This place is a gem. I loved our stay here. Warm friendly greeting upon arrival and received a tour upon check-in. Thank you for the kind hospitality. Definitely recommend. Hot tub on property and pretty horses you can say hello to out back near the water. Peaceful and wonderful view. Cutest and most enjoyable breakfast out of all the hotels we stayed at. This place captures the charm of Iceland. Favorite bed out of all the places we stayed at during our trip around the country. Similar to sleeping on clouds "Home away from home" lives up to the saying. Thank you for a nice stay.
Wonderful place, wonderful people, wonderful rooms, wonderful views, wonderful hot tub and the best breakfast we have had in Iceland in the past two weeks! We’ve loved this place! Very close to Akureyri, where you can find many shops and restaurants.
We stayed two nights and this is a wonderful place. It’s got character, not like the sterile modern hotels you find everywhere. The room was very comfortable, and spacious. The staff have been super friendly and courteous. You can’t go wrong staying here. I would definitely stay here again, should we return to Akureyri.
