Ada means "island" in Turkish and is an apt name for this delightful hotel situated on the beach, adjacent to the crystal clear Mediterranean Sea of Northern Cyprus. Relax and unwind in our terrace bar and watch the sunset on one of the most unspoilt islands of the Mediterranean.

Detailed Reviews
Just returned from a week's holiday at the Hotel Ada. Our first impressions when we arrived were clouded by our disappointment in the town itself. The journey from Ercan airport took about an hour in a shared mini-bus laid on by Green Island holidays. The bus was a bit dirty which was the same for the majority of the areas we passed through on route to Kyrenia. There was litter everywhere at the side of the roads. Kyrenia itself has a busy single main road that goes straight through the town and on towards Lapta, etc. It is lined with a mixture of run down shops, advertising billboards, military premises, hotels, sporadic building sites and estate agencies. There is the odd modern shop and restaurant set back from the road.
Ours was the 2nd drop off - the 1st was the Mountain View which was down a single track road then a dirt track amongst some pretty run-down residential properties. This was a big turn off and we were glad we were not staying there.
The Ada is about 10 mins outside Kyrenia centre just off the main road. It is very isolated with no shops or restaurants within walking distance. The brochure had described it as an "Exclusive Luxury Boutique Hotel". We were expecting 4.5 to 5 star. In reality it is 3 to 3.5 star. The building looks approx. 20 years old with some obvious renovations but some obvious signs of age.
The plus points - the pool area and lower seafront bathing area are excellent with stunning views and a massive amount of space. There is a mixture of timber and plastic loungers with towels and cushions provided free. It is very peaceful and relaxing. The rooms (18 + 3 suites) all have balconies with brilliant sea views. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent at all times. The main bedroom area was fine, if not luxury boutique, the bathroom definetely wasn't (see below). The food was very good, however the breakfast choice limited. The omelettes cooked on request by the chef were my personal breakfast favourite. The outdoor restaurant area is also good in terms of views and ambiance. Most of the guests were British and a little older than us in their 40s - 60s, but all a decent bunch. The hotel is small so you tend to get to know everyone.
The minus points - the brochure is most definetely misleading about the hotel and the whole resort. Ada is a good hotel but rough around the edges in parts. The bathrooms especially are very small and certainly not luxurious - it just doesn't have the well finished feel throughout we were expecting. Venturing outside the hotel area by foot is not recommended. It is a good 15 minute walk to the nearest bar but you have to walk alongside the main road and there is no pavement. With the construction work going on there are a lot of heavy vehicles whizzing just past you. That said we were aware that the hotel was out of town, if not quite so isolated. We never hired a car but most others did. Taxis were 12 to 15 YTL, the bus was 1 YTL. Kyrenia itself was a let down - the harbour area is beautiful but the rest is not, with the odd exception. Even the harbour was spoilt on our 1st night by the cats (which my wife detests) roaming between the restaurants and a scuffle between some local youths.
Overall - We had a good holiday but still feel a little let down by the "unspoilt North" myth and the hotel describing it as something it isn't. We found the brilliant Niazi's restaurant and ate there most nights and the sunbathing environment at the hotel was great. Prices are slightly less than the South but not much - a beer and a short at the Harbour was 14 YTL (rip off), much better was the 6 to 7YTL at Roxannes next to Niazi's. Liked the look of the Rocks hotel which is in the heart of the town, and the Colony although it is across the road from a petrol station further from the Sea. Doubt if we will be back in the near future though.
Postscript - I understand that the Ada is converting it's top floor into a further 4 rooms after Xmas. They are also adding a steam/spa area underneath the pool area at the seafront.

The previous review written in 2005 is really now a bit outdated and unfair on the Hotel.
My partner and I stayed for a couple of nights after travelling over the Border from the south to see what was on offer in the North (Turkish) part of the Island.
Well our initial reaction was....wow it's so very much greener - and older - than the south.
Several friends had told us in the past....."The Turks got the best bit" after the invasion back in '74...and so it transpired with the backdrop of impressive Mountains and forested slopes running seamlessly down to the shoreline.
The Mountains really do look spectacular, although not as high as the Troodos they are incredibly steep...and...well they look more 'mountainous'!
Anyway....Kyrenia and it's little harbour are very picture postcard, with little bars and cafes around the edge all with covered outdoor tables.
DON'T order a chicken salad though....as my partner did....complete with cast-off bits of the bird that the local cat ended up enjoying more than she did! My Kebab however was fine....although after the Meze that accompanied it I hardly had room for it!
Anyway....the Hotel.
It would seem that since the last review it has been considerably enlarged and that the 'style' of the Hotel re-vamped. Generally the inside was all white walls with Marble floors, Iron staircase handrails, large paintings and generally an impressive facility.
We booked a double room with Breakfast for £54 per night which seemed pretty reasonable.
The room although very much 'Hotel standard' was clean and air conditioned, with a good bathroom/shower - with a nice marble style.
Take note.....always keep the windows closed from 7.00pm onwards - and the Air-conditioning on - as there are lots of Mosquitos in the area. WE ACCIDENTALLY LEFT OUR WINDOW OPEN.....I received SIXTY bites the first night....ouch.
Anyway the pool is large and there is a small private beach area with sheltered - by a sea wall - swimming area. There are ample sunloungers and umbrella's, all arranged on several huge sundeck areas.
The service was good and the staff all freindly...especially the manager, who was very chatty and helpful.
So in summary..... it's quite close to Town, there are other restuarents nearby - notably the 'Stone Grill and 'The Ship' and there is the spectacular coastline to enjoy.
All the Turkish Cypriates we met were very friendly too.
Definitely worth a look if you are in the area.

The charm of North Cyprus used to be in its unpretentiousness, it's cheapness, it's tranquility and the friendly eagerness of the locals to help and assist in every way they could.
It has changed now and that change is epitomised by The Ada Beach Hotel. The good news is that it doesn't have a casino latched on to it like many others but it may well do in the future. There are though still hotels and holiday villages which do what it says on the tin for a reasonable price. The Ada however purports to be something it is not. It's a shame because tourism is clearly on the up with more and more nationalities visiting and seriously restricting room vacancy particularly during the popular autumn season.
Firstly, although there are few close facilities, the location is superb, adjoining the sea, with a small beach and a huge sunbathing area around and beyond the pool. The 80 or so rooms all face the sea. Secondly there has clearly been a lot of money thrown at it in an attempt to make it attractive to guests. Unfortunately though it appears that whoever put the money in sat back to enjoy the spoils or walked away into the sunset.
We went there having checked out of a sub standard hotel after one night. That hotel was cheap, The Ada is not. On the face of it we had a spacious and moderately furnished suite complete with a settee and chairs. However, as the week went on we found more and more flaws. The most obvious was a loud grinding noise which came from the toilet cistern and got worse day by day and often woke us at night. We reported it early, as well as the three lights which didn't work. After a second complaint one light bulb was replaced although the "technician" discarded the box beneath the light without even bothering to put it in the bin. Everything else remained the same including the fact that the water was consistently luke warm and never hot. The taps didn't operate properly and the TV worked for one day which wasn't really a problem as the foreign news channels, routinely available in most hotels, were absent. There was also a total absence of accoutrements in the room apart from a safe and a vase of flowers.
On three occasions we had to commandeer a chambermaid into the room in the very late afternoon to just do the basics. The room cleaning etc appeared very ad hoc and the four women concerned appeared to be under great pressure having little management and lacking in proper training. On one occasion they were all slumped on the floor drinking tea outside our room. That is reflected throughout the hotel where breakfast resembled a post war holiday camp with two young staff members wandering around in a state of confusion with no sense of urgency or great interest and totally lacking in supervision. There were at least eight food tureens in the restaurant on a large end table but only two of them ever contained boiled and scrambled eggs. Nearby, guests were required to squeeze between two tables for coffee etc and preserves.
The large pool area was consistently littered with the same debris, particularly cigarette butts. We drew staff attention to it but it remained the same. One chip remained at the edge of the pool for four days. The pool itself looked murky for a number of days and it was impossible to see the bottom of it despite being "worked on" by a "technician." Eventually a pool maintenance company arrived and resolved the problem but in the meantime 2 young Turkish children were among the very few who ventured into it.
The lack of cleanliness will not bother everyone nor will the almost inevitable very loud music which is played continuously round the pool. Worst of all though is the conflicting loud music which is bashed out at the adjoining sunbathing area. Another problem, due to poor planning management, was the location of the pool bar which is right by the hotel building. On some nights we had great difficulty sleeping in the early hours due to high volume from the bar area but the worst experience was on the very last night, prior to a 5am rise, when the bar was kept open until that time for just two very loud people despite guests' complaints including one man who was at reception as I prepared to leave for a welcome escape to the airport.
All in all it was a poor experience which is a great shame because, with minimum thought planning and training, the place could be, as Carol W said "a real gem."

It's very dirty here. The staff does not clean anything. Dirt and ruin. Scattered garbage and waste in every corner. Awful.

First impressions were from the scrap yard outside and it didn't get any better. It's a big Hotel and only 5 of us staying there. The bar did not open at all and breakfast was a take it or leave it plated meal. We were given the ahem, top room which was just a bit bigger than the standard. Yes it had a whirlpool bath that ran brown water and did not work anyway.

Did not stay here but had the pleasure of giving my Daughter away as Father of the Bride.
The wedding was fantastic, on the beach and a nice setting, chairs & tables laid out nice, and all went very well. This was thanks to the wedding planner Teresa Cefa , who was absolutely on the ball and fantastic.
The reason why I have marked this terrible are numerous.
The staff are rude & didn't have a clue about common niceties which you would expect considering the occasion.
A free bar was paid for, for 3 hours after the ceremony and some of the waiters were circling about carrying drinks in iced buckets trying to charge 10 TL for a can of EFES.
An i.phone went missing from one of the tables and was searched for high & low. A reward was offered for the return of the phone & a waiter suddenly found it. ( he was actually seen replacing the phone under the table cloth and then saying that he had found it ).
The food was cold and the service very slowwwwww. On the top table, we were served last.
During the speeches the waiters decided to clear the top table.
Only one person at the bar for the wedding could speak English, ( I know this is a foreign country but you would expect better). They tried to charge for spirits at the free bar because they said they were not local spirits, even though you had asked for local spirits.
My wife's bouquet went missing when she returned to our table after a dance.
The whole place looked shabby a few days before when we visited for a pre- wedding discussion.
I did not stay here and I'm glad I didn't.
If you are thinking of booking this place up for any function I would seriously think again.

Response from Ada_Beach_Hotel, Guest Relations Manager at Ada Beach Hotel
Responded Jun 24, 2015
Dear Martin, It was our pleasure to hold the wedding of your daughter at The Ada Beach Hotel. We have however found some of the comments in your review to be disheartening and we therefore kindly wish to clarify a few things. The event was very important to us and should you have made us aware at the pre wedding meeting exactly what improvements we could have made to the appearance of the hotel, we would have been happy to attend to as many of these issues as possible prior to the event. It was our every intention to make it a happy occasion for all and we regret that the positive and friendly nature of our waiters did not come across to you. Our staff worked extremely hard to ensure that the bride and groom had their desired set up as well as a wonderful and memorable time during their wedding. All their pre arranged requirements were organized and their requests were prioritized, including serving the top table first and foremost. Our waiters were fully briefed before the event about the procedures and prices arranged. Please be sure that they were extremely aware of the prices and exactly what was included and would definitely not have charged anyone unnecessarily at all. The free bar was arranged for 3 hours, however, we hope you can appreciate that without request, we kindly went over this time by around 20 minutes and did not charge for the many drinks consumed by your party during the extra time. Prior to the wedding, the groom had asked us to provide some dark EFES for the party and it was explained and agreed that these would be chargeable to the guests. However, whilst circling with these, the groom decided to change the arrangement and have them charged to his room instead. Also, knowing full well that drinks purchased from outside the hotel are forbidden to be brought into our establishment, we caught your wedding planner with her own 2 bottles of liquor and when questioned on this, she told us that she intended to pour her own shots and sell them to the guests! It was our Hotel Manager who spoke to her and prevented this from happening. The Hotel Manager also had the courtesy to provide a free bottle of champagne for the lovely couple when cutting the wedding cake, simply as a gesture from our hotel. With regards to the lost iphone, some staff from the main restaurant were summoned to help search for it. It was one of these members of staff who thankfully discovered it under a part of the tablecloth, which the wind had blown over. He was not present at the time of the loss. When he received a 50 YTL tip, a huge amount of gratitude was shown towards him. AlI our staff are trustworthy people and we take such matters very seriously. We really went out of our way to accommodate your party. They had consumed a large amount of alcohol during the course of the night and many were behaving in a very drunken manner. After the wedding celebrations were over, they continued to be very loud and caused disturbance within the hotel until the early hours of the morning. Nevertheless, we tolerated this due to the occasion, as well as the complaints from the other guests staying at our hotel. We do hope that we have made things a bit clearer for you and sincerely apologise for any misunderstandings caused. We are really glad to hear that you found the wedding to be fantastic and that overall it very well. Truly wishing the newly married couple a wonderful future together from all of us at The Ada Beach Hotel. Kind regards, Guest Relations

I stayed here for 6 nights 5th October - 10th October 2011 on business and found it to be a real find !
The hotel is slightly off the beaten track and away from the noise of the main road but right on the beach.
The room i stayed in was 401 and was fabulous - the room had a large corner jacuzzi bath with seperate shower and a panoramic view of the sea. The standard of cleanliness in the room was excellent and the room was cleaned on a daily basis.
The actual bedroom part of the room was also excellently appointed. A very large king size bed with 4 very comfy pillows and once again the panoramic windows giving the most amazing views over the bay.
The room had a complimentary safe deposit box and also had a mini bar within the room (this was chargeable).
The room was of an excellent standard and I have no complaints whatsoever with it.
The hotel on first appearance may look a little tired but try to look past that to see the real charm of this hotel.
The staff are very friendly here and will really go out of their way to assist you - special mention for the reception staff who were brilliant.
The staff in the restaurant again will go out of their way to assist and always have a smile on their faces ! Try learning a bit of turkish, even if its only good morning, and they will really appreciate it. The level of english spoken in this hotel is of a good standard and from what I saw is very child friendly.
I only had the breakfast which was a continental style with salad, cheese, cooked meats, olives, etc but was fresh every day and you could happily have as much as you wanted.
The hotelis just outside the town and a taxi will cost around 25TL = £8.00 ish nothing too much !
Would I recommend this hotel - YES does it need a quick lickof tlc - yes but nothing tomoan about to be honest. All in all for the price a nice find and will use again !!!!!
Room rate was around £50.00 per night half board - drinks not included -large beer at the bar was 6TL = £2.00 so no dramas with the drink prices either.
Definately a real hidden jem !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7 of us stayed on a bed & breakfast basis for a week at the end of May. We had 3 lovely rooms, a family room for 3 and 2 doubles all adjoining. They all overlook the sea, are well furnished and spacious. The air conditioning also works which is an essential although on the 5th floor there was a pretty good breeze through the windows.
There are some nice areas for lounging - on the grass using massive beanbags, around the pool or at either of the two beaches. Sun beds are certainly plentiful. The pool water and sea were pretty cold but that's what we expected at this time of year. The breakfast was good and the free wifi a bonus.
What makes this hotel is the excellent staff. They are extremely pleasant and can't do enough for you. Must mention Benyamen ( the young manager) Aki (bar) and Michael (restaurant). We all had a fabulous relaxing holiday and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. The amenities, staff and excellent location score 5 out of 5 for the price we paid although I don't know what it's like in peak season when really busy. I'm told they have music and parties in the summer but must admit I suspect I'd prefer our off season peaceful start.

We did not go to the Ada Beach by choice, but were dumped there when our chosen hotel was overbooked, or so Corendon told us. Fortunately we only stayed for 2 nights and one day when we were tranferred to another hotel. The room we were give, 309, was the size of a postage stamp, there was nothing to put your case on apart from the bed. It smelt of old drains, the floor was dirty with human hair in places, there was bloud on one pillow case and the sheets looked like they had already been used, hence I did not take my clothes off and slept on a towel on top of the bed. There was not hot water in the disgusting shower. Although some staff were friendly, in general they were surley and unfriendly, especially the reception and manager. The area around the pool and terrace was also filthy, with old tissues and cigarette ends on it, and we even saw some broken glass. I only ate one breakfast and nothing else wghile there as the rotten egg I opend put me off for good, the yolk was green and hard, and the smell, well of bad eggs. Avoid this hotel at all costs, and beware if you book with Corendon as we heard from many Dutch people that the same had happened to them, having booked one hotel and then dumped in this one on arrival with no warning beforehand, they were advised when on the coach.

Dear Christine, Thank you for reviewing our Hotel. All feedback is extremely important to us, even if it is negative as in your case. We are appalled that your room smelt and was dirty and wish that you would have reported this to us for an immediate resolution. We take the safety of our customers very seriously and I hope that you reported the broken glass to reception. It is very important that all customers report their grievances to Reception so that we have the chance to rectify any problems and improve your experience with us. Unfortunately on this occasion we were not made aware and therefore Christine, we weren't given the chance to resolve the problems you had with your room. I sincerely apologies for your disappointment. Kind Regards, The Ada Beach Hotel Management

+1
I spent 2 weeks at the Ada Beach Hotel in September. What a lovely hotel it is. Perfect location, and decoration throughout the hotel has been done to a very high standard. Lovely pool, lovely decking areas and lovely beach - spoilt for choice where to sunbathe. Typical Turkish buffet breakfast served from 8.00 am - 10.00 am. Good menu for Bar Snacks at lunchtime with an option for evening meal to have a la Carte or go for the Half Board Menu. Staff very polite and courteous, grounds maintained to a very high standard. Good choice of rooms from standard room to suites. Whilst there the hotel was very quite which was a shame. I got the impression that it is mainly Turkish people who stay there. This would be a very popular hotel for English guests and I think the hotel management ought to look at promoting the hotel towards the UK market. I understand they are putting on a Special Christmas Package this year arrival Christmas Eve departing after breakfast on Boxinig day. This is a very good deal with traditional Christmas Day Meal and entertainment. Definitely worth giving it a try.

Hi yes we had a hair dryer although was over the bathroom sink
Hi Taiane, we booked with gonorthcyprus and there were few options depending on which room or package you choose.
The hotel has two types of upgraded rooms a suite and a superior I believe both have enough space for a third bed and also have sofa beds within. You can change/ upgrade your room from the basic ones (small but clean and adequate)at the reception when booking in if they have any available. I paid £10 a night to upgrade in June, so I would work off somewhere around that price for Oct.All rooms have sea views and balconys and single camp (fold down) beds are available and can be added to the room.We were allowed, upon arrival, to view the three types of rooms(basic, suite, superior) that they had available and chose which one we wanted.Hope you enjoy your holiday.
Further to the above the same would apply to restaurants. Hope this helps and you enjoy your holiday.
Think you need to direct this request to the HOTEL.. GOOD LUCK
