Whatever brings you to Helsinki, Klaus K Hotel welcomes you to the heart of the city where the old Art Nouveau buildings meet the modern Scandinavian life style. The hotel’s design is inspired by Finland’s national epic, Kalevala. Throughout the hotel’s interior there are small details that bring you to the world of Finnish folklore and mythology. Mystique, passion, desire, and envy are themes that have inspired Kalevala stories as well as us. Klaus K Hotel is the first Lifestyle Preferred hotel in Helsinki. Some of our very unique rooms are created in collaboration with the most famous Finnish contemporary artists.

we were in Helsinki to explore the snow. Klaus K - even in Corona times they gave us a room to the noisy backyard. On top the rooms had better times, everything is a bit old. Other hotels in this area are maybe a bit more expensive´- but we wouldnt come back to Klaus K.

This time we booked a Desire room from 'Two nights for the price of one' sale. The price was 72,50 euros per night. The rate was flexible and included breakfast. As a Nordic Choice Platinum member, my goal was to get an upgrade to the next room category that is an Envy room and asked for a bay window to Bulevardi street. To our surprise, we got a bay window but the room was three categories upward. The room type was a Sky Loft room that has a normal price of 245 euros per night. I think our room is the only Sky room with a bay window. Above on the 7th floor is a Sky Suite that has a bay balcony. The views from the bay window were panoramic. We could see the whole Bulevardi street and the Clarion Hotel behind it. On the other side is the Swedish Theater, Esplanadi Park, and Helsinki Cathedral behind the park. The room decor is very modern and the same in every Sky room. Our room had a dining table for two. It was very practical for the takeaway breakfast. At the moment, there is a restaurant lockdown in most of Finland and only takeaway meals are possible. The hotel offers also room service dinners from two restaurants: Toscanini and Pastis. Menus could be found in the room. The takeaway breakfast was handled very well. Pre-filled paper bags were fetched from the breakfast room. Inside the bags, you found a varied selection of food.

Excellent clean, quiet and centrally located hotel. Walkable to everywhere. Excellent breakfast buffet. There are convenient stores close by and to be able to walk to the water front daily was a plus; good photo opportunities abound.

As a surprise for me, my fiancee had reserved a Sky Studio room at Klaus K to celebrate our engagement. Unfortunately our whole weekend was ruined by this experience. The reception was a bit crowded when we arrived and we had to queue for a while. Two receptionists were still able to handle that amount of people. We got our room keys and adjourned to our room. When we opened the door to our room, we were shocked. What had been marketed as an ”upper-class” room with great views to urban Helsinki was actually a triangle-shaped cramped ”maintenance room” with a low ceiling and electrical maintenance cabinets along one of the walls (they were ”craftily” covered with a curtain). The TV was installed behind the corner of the bathroom so you couldn’t see it from the bed. The windows were all but large: tiny windows almost at the ceiling level so that we couldn’t see anything through them. The bed was so close to the bathroom door that you couldn’t enter the bathroom without first closing the door and then squeezing in between the nightstand and the wall only to be able to open the door and then enter the bathroom. My fiancee was devastated. She wanted to surprise me with great room at a nice hotel and now this room was a total disappointment. We tried to call the reception, but no one answered for 20min so we decided to get ready for our dinner reservation and complain about the room f2f in the reception. When we got there, there was only one receptionist working during the peak hours and the queue of people continued all the way to the stairs and to the street floor - almost outside! And we didn’t have time to wait. After the dinner we complained about the room to the receptionist (who was nice and polite), but he couldn’t do anything to fix the problem. We thought that now we had seen every negative aspect of Klaus K, but then a club next door started playing music and you could hear the bass thumping very clearly in the room (btw. marketing materials stated that the room is so high above that you cannot hear any noises from the street). Even the lights in the room were messed up: you had the option of all lights on or no lights. Ever heard that people like to dim the bright white led lights in the evening? We sent feedback to the hotel, but haven’t received any answer. No surprise. Based on this experience we will not be staying at Klaus K in the future, and we definitely cannot recommend it to anyone else either.

Response from Marika Mäkelä, General Manager at Klaus K Hotel
Responded Dec 8, 2021
Thank you for your visit and thank you for this important feedback! Congratulations on your engagement! I am very sorry to hear the layout of the room was not to your liking. The hotel is in a remarkable old building and especially the Sky Studio and Sky Loft rooms are unique. I am very sorry that our communication about the rooms has been misleading regarding the high floor and being above the city noise. I have looked into this and corrected the text on our website. When we are this centrally located, there will always be some noise and it is absolutely misleading to say otherwise. Naturally many of the rooms are very quiet, but if we are unable to guarantee this to all of our guests, this information should be removed. Thank you for letting us know so that we were able to fix this. I apologize about us not responding to you. I will look into this and contact you if I am able to find out your contact information based on the information on this review. Or if it is not too much to ask, I would be happy if you could contact me directly at marika.makela@klauskhotel.com. I would like to continue this conversation with you. I sincerely hope your dinner was succesful and you have good memories of celebrating your engagement. I wish you and your fiancee all the best in the future! Kind regards, Marika Mäkelä, Hotel General Manager Klaus K
