After the not so lucrative Christmas calendar of the Kämp Collection Hotel chain, there came a super sale (-40%) at the end of the year. We booked the least expensive Serenity Studio for 175 euros. This price was flexible and included breakfast. As a Nordic Choice Platinum member, I counted that we will get some sort of upgrade. To our surprise, we got a four-category upgrade to an Atelier Balcony room (the normal price of 440 euros). From the Atelier Balcony rooms, we got the best one #607. There are four rooms with a Church Park view, two to the side street and some to the backside. Our room had a huge balcony next to the smaller balcony of Coupole Suite. We had four windows. One from the spacious bathroom. From the Atelier room upwards, the bathrooms have separate bathtubs and rain showers which is always very nice. You can jump directly from the shower to a filled bathtub. There has always been a welcome package waiting for us. This time it was a half bottle of champagne and a big fruit plate. As a Nordic Choice Platinum member, I got also a restaurant voucher of 13 euros. With that, we bought two delicious sandwiches from St George Bakery for an evening snack. The breakfast was pleasantly calm. The service was top-notch as also in the reception. Helsinki has two real five-star luxury hotels: Kämp and St George. If you like more modern decor, then the choice is St George.

Hotel's Favorite
Loved probably the details the most: sodastream machine, beautiful art pieces all over the hotel, poem of my favorite poet on my pillow, freshly baked bread etc. The room was spacious with a stylish decor. The restaurant Winter garden seemed beautiful, but due to covid restrictions we didn’t have time to visit. The breakfast was superb. Quality over quantity. The waitress asked which kind of juice we want and brought a pitcher to our table, along with freshly baked delicious bread. Also special coffees didn’t cost extra which to me is a sign of a good hotel (I just love my morning latte). I also ordered omelette specific to my taste and excellent yogurt with rhubarb jam.

What drew me to this hotel were the pictures of brightly lit, airy and modern Scandinavian designed rooms. I also specifically selected the 'Serenity Studio', which on the hotel's website is shown with two large windows, and was looking forward to bask in their light and enjoy the views. In fact, I was very lucky enough that during my entire visit to Helsinki I was blessed with amazingly sunny days. Unfortunately, the room that I was given had only one window that overlooked an internal courtyard on its ground level with little light reaching the courtyard and therefore the window and the room itself. You can see you dim and dingy the room looks in the pictures, which were all taken in brought full-sun daylight. Upon bring this to the attention of the staff at reception, i.e. that my main draw to the hotel was the bright twin large windows advertised and that the room I was given was nothing like that with just one dim window, I was told that in fact I had the correct room and that there was nothing they could do. As you can imagine this soured the entire stay, and each day I was trying to spend as little time as possible within the room itself, which is a real shame given the effort put into the design of the rooms and the hotel. To be honest the room and others like it in the hotel should not be let out to guests at all in my opinion, given that the hotel is striving to present itself as a luxury or close to it establishment. Otherwise, the hotel location was good and the design of the common areas was nice, but value for money was very poor given the room and amenities. I'd suggest to maybe look at different options in Helsinki, or ensure you are getting what you actually pay for ahead of time, otherwise it would be very difficult to find another hotel once you are already there.

I took a 50 min massage and a SPA visit. For a pure massage, the pricing is high but connected with the SPA it is ok. They took 5 minutes out of massage time for setting in the treatment room, so the actual massage time was 45 min. Not the best massage in town, you get better for the same price. The receptionist was not wearing a mask which is big minus. May not visit again.
