Wheelchair-accessible, rehabilitation centre and hotel in the same building complex. Basic room with a mini fridge but no kettle nor coffee-making facilities. Breakfast quite good but most foods without salt (salt and pepper on every table, though), also a corner for gluten-free items. Wonderful walking paths and breathtaking views!!!
Gorgeous and amazing nature around. An oasis of silence, tranquility and appeasement. Forests and lakes breathe pristine purity. Walking as always in Finland gives a feeling of unity with nature. Finnish people love their own nature and carefully look after it, keep it for themselves and their descendants. The room was clean, carefully prepared and fashioned in Finnish style. There is linoleum on the floor. Finnish windows protect from external noise, but there was a garbage collection point under the windows of our room. On Sunday morning, workers rattled trash bins. Perhaps this was the following up how the Finnish people treat guests from a neighboring country, that is, with special love! The bed was amazing and my wife and I enjoyed resting and good sleeping the whole night! A receptionist was smiling during our check-in. I paid for the staying period in cash. Unfortunately SPA zone and water centre were out of service and the receptionist did not mentioned about it during the check-in! Absurd! Glanced to the phone I have noticed I have not got a notification about SPA closing period for my staying dates at 9 a.m. at the same day on Saturday. I did not noticed it because I was driving at that time. It was impossible to assess the quality of the spa zone as it was closed exactly for the days of our staying at the hotel. It was clean inside and pleasant as so as usually in Finnish hotels, but the feeling that I overpaid a lot more than I saw and I got did not leave me for all period of time. The price is much too high! However, this applies to all hotels in Finland. Breakfast was completely ordinary, the products were fresh, but nothing more. There was no variety. Bacon was crunchy like cookies. In my opinion there was a regime of austerity of the owners for the guests. My wife and I were totally upset the hospitality like this.…
My husband booked the room for us for 2 nights. He chose a superior room and the price was on an expensive end. When we arrived, the location was great, beautiful landscape, peaceful area. But the sign says “kuntoutuskeskus”(rehabilitation center) so we were amused to check purselves in to a rehab. The receptionist was doing her job suitably fine, but there was no sense of welcoming or service mind approach. Most of the people who came in July are on vacation, but there was no vacation feeling to it. The hotel building has its long history. The jugend building is very nice and the rooms are renovated to be more modern. Comfortable bed, equipped with minibar and nice furniture. Breakfast was poor. The hotel restaurant offers food til late but we did not feel like dining there in a clse space with out-dated interior(not old and classic atmosphere). In a nice warm summer evening, it would be nice to be out in the terrace by the lake. They have a swimming pool(spa department) with steam room snd sauna. Everything worked fine but it really needs to be updated to a more modern days. Feeling so old and out-dated. The hotel’s site promote their beauty treatment service(facial treatment, foot treatment, massage, hair salon etc), we were planning for a foot treatment. We asked a receptionist, who answered coldly. She said “you need to book in advance!” (Oh yes, we arrived yesterday and had no idea, that is why we ask) and then we were told that the cosmetologist is not there. It is understAndable but it was a pity that there was no sense of service mind oriented/welcoming to the guests. At least this is what I felt, considering we paid for over 300€ for this visit, we used all the services elsewhere than in hotel facility. This hotel has s lot of potential, an old building with history, peaceful and beautiful location, but a lot of improvement is really needed.…
I was visiting with my husband in this hotel. I would consider it to be more close to hospital than Hotel. Rooms were very BIG and basic with hospital look and feel. Breakfast were very basic. Low value for money.
Functional, clean rooms with ac. Location by the lake is beautiful, nice walk tours around Punkaharju. Lake side café is worth visit&dinner or waffels. Breakfast was like going back to the 80ties, bad value for money.
On our way back home we needed to stay one night somewhere. Savonlinna was fully booked (Opera Festival) so Punkaharju was a good option. This hotel turned out to be great. It is located near a lake in Punkaharju ridge area. It used to be a veteran rehab centre and still the clientele were mostly elderly people or people with disabilities. Our room was on the second floor. Air conditioning was good, as it turned out to be a hot day. The hotel offers sunny terrace next to the rooms and while the building is very big we found a direct route from parking lot to our room. The nature around the hotel is stunning: pine forests, water. There are lot of activities outdoors and Savonlinna is mere 30 min away. The best part was swimming pools. While the place is not a spa (no water slides or jacuzzis) it was perfect for kids. And not too crowded. We ended up being there two nights and would have been longer if we did not schedule pressure to return home. The hotel was good but some things still needed to get 5 stars from me :-) - breakfast was quite simple and plain, a bit "hospital like" - we skipped restaurant lunch and dinner, they were not match for the price - room was small and quite expensive (note: the hotel in the area were fully booked due to Opera festivals and this was maybe among the last rooms they would find). We will definitely be back!…
If you love the Finnish nature, lake Saimaa, outdoor activities, maybe pop in the day spa to swim or having a massage while staying at the hotel, this is a perfect place! Or need just a place to stay outside the town, the room was big, beatiful, quiet and clean, and the bed was excellent. I had foreign friends with me, and I noticed that the personnel was speaking english. However, the place is big, and few times my friends had difficulties to find their room, but so did I.. On weekdays it's also a rehabilitation place, so if you don't want to see any older people, or someone at wheelchair, it is not your place. But if you stay, you may have to stay up late and sing karaoke with them :D
Stayed here with my dear wife for two nights during our visit to Savonlinna Opera Festival, about 25 min drive away. The hotel is actually a tubeculosis sanatorium from the 1800's turned into a rehabilitation center for apparently people with mainly neurological problems, i.e. post stroke conditions etc. One wing of the old building is turned into a hotel. The whole complex seems to have been fully renovated to a modern building while retaining the old style. Old photographs on the walls tell you interesting stories of how tb-patients lived in this community long ago. Hotel has a nice tiny beach where one can have a morning dip in the clear lake. Hotel rooms are refurbished with style, are comfy and pleasant to stay in. Excellent beds! Very quiet location by a lake with spectacular scenery of Punkaharju close by. You will run into to patients under rehabilitation during your stay, giving it a unique flavor of staying in a hospital. The staff are very friendly and helpfull but obviously not very experienced in running a hotel. The room, although very good, did not have shampoo/conditioner but you could by some from the lobby. The breakfast was disappointingly finnish hotel breakfast, we decided to have ours in Savonlinna the second morning, I could recoomend Saimi Cafe there for breakfast.…
Stayed for one night to celebrate our 21st anniversary. The suite was beautiful: light, stylish and elegant, beds were the best in a loooong time! Room and bathroom were also clean and nicely kept. Loved the decorations and wallpapers! BUT the room was hot. Air conditioner did not work nor did the phone when we tried to call the reception to ask for help. We went downstairs and told receptionist about malfunction. She wrote our claim down, but did not even apologize for inconvenience. Hotel is very quiet, most of the clients were "patients", sitting in a wheelchairs and staff helping them to & with dinner etc. Restaurant was almost empty when we arrived (only one other couple eating) but still we had to wait for our dishes over 30 minutes. We ate from a la carte and prices were HIGH, but the portions were poor. Would not recommend to choose for a "nice dinner out" to anybody. Everything closes very early: restaurant at 22:00 and cafe downstairs 21:00. When we returned to our room it was still hot and air conditioner not working. Somebody had brought us a tiny tiny tiny table fan, but it did no good :( Luckily we stayed in a suite: it had two windows to open so by night is was a bit cooler. When we were leaving we once again complained a bit about the broken air conditioner and phone, but receptionist did not even say sorry. As a customer I am used to getting some response on my complains and that nonchalant silence from the receptions side left very unpleasant aftertaste to this visit. Will not visit again and can not recommend to anyone wishing for magnific experience.…
Stayed there for two nights with the family. The room was nice but the athmosphere is more a hospital than a hotel. Would recommend to seek some other place in the area, which is obviously nice even for a Finn.
