Impressed by the welcome from front desk staff, professional and friendly. Stylish comfortable room and good facilities including complimentary wifi and coffee. Good food and plenty of variety in options. Has the edge over other hotels in its staff and will definitely be first choice for return trips.

This is a great choice of hotel for people wishing to spend some time exploring Stockholm. It is in a quiet location overlooking a small park (although our room didn't look out that way!) with a bar with a sunny balcony and outside seating. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had a Superior room which had a huge bathroom (but...

This was my "splurge" in a budget-minded trip through Scandinavia and I was so happy to have made this choice! From the cozy bed linens and quiet rooms to the heated bathroom floors and the delicious weekend brunch buffet, even my single economy room felt decadent. The service is fantastic (they deliver your movie DVD of choice directly to your...

Enjoyed 3 great nights in Hotel Rival. Located on a lovely square in Sodermalm, the highlights were the small things (free wifi, free coffee facilities, DVD library), the excellent breakfast and the very helpful staff. It's a little away from the main tourist drag but it's very close to excellent public transport which encouraged us to visit a few districts...

We took a De Luxe room for a 60/66 yr old couple. Well older than most guests because the hotel has quite a young feel but we felt quite comfortable. The front office staff were fantastic with information etc. We loved the restaurant and ended up there for dinner both nights. The room was very comfortable and large and we...

We spent 3 nights here as tourists in April. Perfect for exploring the city - only a minute's walk from the tube. Couldn't fault the hotel - really stylish conversion of an old cinema, with prints and Swedish film memorabilia everywhere. Excellent food, cocktails and service. Perfect.

Going to Stockholm a couple of times per year this is a predictable favourite. Right from the reception, front desk people, cleaning personnel, waiters etc etc are all friendly, efficient and not mechanical at all in their hospitality. Rooms are wonderful, great beds and linen, breakfast a real treat with anything you like - especially the home baked bread is...

Stayed a couple of nights each in both hotels in May 2012; a "suite" at Viking and a de luxe room at Rival (no suites available) - both with balcony. I wanted comfortable space and the ability to smoke. Rival wins out - the room was adequate rather than large, only slightly smaller than the Viking, but only SK3950 c/w...

I stay here frequently when traveling for work to Stockholm. The hotel is centrally located across from a charming small park. It's close the shops in the Soedermalm neighborhood and easy walking distance to old town. Small rooms but in typical Swedish sensibility, very well laid out. The staff is pretty trendy and hip as well as being professional and...

Spent a long weekend in the Rival. Location is central in the upcoming area Soedermalm, only 15 minutes walk to the old town. Clean rooms with many amenities such as DVD's, CD's, minibar, comfortable bed, not to forget free wifi and free cafe machine on the floor. Staff very competent and friendly. If you don't feel like going out at...

Staying in Mariatorget

Neighborhood Profile
Mariatorget
This rather quiet neighborhood revolves around a postcard-like park with a dramatic fountain in its center and is definitely one of Stockholm’s showcase neighborhoods. Mariatorget, a central residential area, is the best Stockholm has to offer when it comes to juxtaposing architectural masterpieces with sophisticated art galleries, coffee shops and bars. Stockholmers love to spend their weekends in the park or one of the nearby coffee shops, so come to Mariatorget to meet the locals. The northern part of Mariatorget boasts historic buildings, beautiful cobblestone streets, and one of Stockholm’s best observation decks, Monteliusvägen, from where you can see an amazing view of the city hall and Stockholm’s old town.
