Norrmalm is Stockholm’s most central and busiest neighborhood. It’s home to the main shopping street, Drottninggatan, and to Stockholm icons like the Sergels Torg glass obelisk, the famous Hay Market with its Carl Milles sculptures, and the Hötorget Skyscrapers, a sight on every other Stockholm postcard. Norrmalm is also home to Sweden’s most traditional department stores Nordiska Kompaniet and Åhléns City juxtaposed with Stockholm’s most modern shopping mall, Mood Stockholm. Visitors to this area get to experience the unique Swedish philosophy of protecting cultural heritage while also staying on top of fashion innovation and modern architecture.

Hotel's Favorite
We paid a bit extra for one of the more comfortable rooms and were very happy with it. Breakfast was varied and plentiful. But probably the best thing was the location, on a quiet side street but close to shops and amenities - the station and bus station are literally 5 mins walk away and there were small supermarkets around the corner for snacks. It took us about 10-15 mins to walk to the historic area of Gamla Stan, Royal Palace, ferry points etc. If I return to Stockholm I will definitely stay at Freys again.

This review is long overdue and dedicated to my mom, Judy, who passed away this past September. We went to Stockholm on a whim and it was worth every penny and every memory. We stayed here 6 nights and enjoyed every day. First, the hotel is right down the block from the train that comes from the airport. Since mom does have some trouble walking, it was the first and most convenient convenience! You didn't have to take a taxi or walk too far in any kind of weather. Second, the room was perfect. We had a big bed and enough room to move around. There was a mini bar and coffee/tea maker. I did pay extra to have a bigger room and a terrace and I am glad I did. I enjoyed going out on the terrace and watching the working world go by. I have only good things to say about the room. The shower was a little small though and may be for some folk but I'm little so it was fine for me! And hey, it's Europe - or Scandinavia! Third, the buffet breakfast was scrumptious. I had a salad every single day of fresh lettuce, red peppers and hard boiled eggs. It was a healthy way to start the day but they had delicious breads, yogurts, granolas, fruit, pastries and Swedish delicacies. I really enjoyed the "make your own pancake" station - they were warm, yummy and you can add whipped cream and other toppings. Breakfast was one of the highlights for mom and I and we took our time every morning eating and watching the street view. Service was so delightful - they will get you anything you want with a smile. When one of the breakfast staff learned that I liked the white parts of romaine lettuce - better than the leafy green part (but I eat that too) - she had the white crunchy parts ready for me every morning that she was there! The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner too but we did not eat there for those meals. It was always packed and you needed a reservation and we didn't like to be held to times. However, I think the restaurant is known for having hundreds of types of beers which makes it really popular. Fourth, the service and location were amazing for me and my mom. The front desk ladies and gentlemen couldn't do enough for us and they always pointed us in the right direction. They were there to say goodbye when we left for the day and welcomed us with a big smile when we returned I had a new phone with me and I needed to take a screenshot of something to help us go somewhere and the front desk young lady helped me figure out how to take one on my phone. Now, I know how to take screenshots because of her! I had also forgot my charger - oh boy - and I am a seasoned traveler - and the front desk had a solution for that. They let me borrow an international charger for the 6 nights I was there - with no charge - barring I return it of course! I was really overwhelmed and grateful for their kindness and eagerness to talk with my mom and I. The location could not have been better - at least for mom and I - it was down the block from the main street which we walked on every day to get somewhere and which leads to the OLD Town. Furthermore, we took the HOP ON HOP OFF Bus everywhere and I knew every back street after riding on this for 5 days (well worth it!) We even made friends with the bus drivers! This bus is right down the block from the hotel - less than 5 minutes! Soooooo convenient. The bus stop was in front of a McDonalds and we stopped here every evening for a hot chocolate and the good ole crunchy, crusty apple pies (that are banned from America because they burned someone's mouth) - I had to have one every day! So McDonalds as well other reasonably priced and fancier eateries are all within walking distance. You will not be at a loss to eat or shop in this neighborhood. I even think the ICE hotel was right across the street but I'm not sure if that is correct. I thought I saw it from my terrace. I am sure there could be bigger and better, fancier places but this was a boutique hotel with all the special touches that I needed to enjoy Stockholm. It was a wonderful mother/daughter trip. Even the flight over here was amazing - we flew Norwegian Airlines Express and were here in 9 hours from Ft. Lauderdale. I need to thank the Freys Hotel for making my last trip with my mom so special. I hope to visit there again and walk the streets I walked with my mom as I know we will always have Stockholm!!!!

We stayed 3 nights in this lovely hotel. The room was immaculate, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We were so comfortable! Breakfast is included, which we always love as we can then get our days started without having to think too much about how to get that first cup of coffee and something to eat! We were able to walk to everything we wanted to do. Most conveniently, since we were entering and exiting Stockholm through the airport in Arlanda, the hotel is only steps away from the Arlanda Express stop. Literally, step out of the front door of the hotel, and look right up the street - you can see the entrance to the Arlanda Express. We had to leave early on our last morning, and the woman who prepared the breakfast told us that she would open for us a half hour earlier so that we'd be able to eat before leaving. So wonderful! She was so accommodating and sweet. unfortunately, because of our schedule, we were unable to take advantage of the sauna, but it was definitely great to know it was there. I'm sorry we couldn't use it - with the anxiety of wondering if our flight was going to be cancelled or the border closings preventing us from returning home, we could have really used the relaxation of a sauna!
