We liked the location near lots of restaurants. It was a very busy area with many tourists. The rooms were small and didn't have any AC. So you had to keep windows open :( I thought it could have been cleaner, especially the public areas, elevator, etc. The breakfast was ok. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I stayed four nights at this hotel during a recent trip to Stockholm. Located on the island of Gamla Stan, it has great atmosphere but is surprisingly loud at night, even though most of the stores and restaurants are closed. I will caveat that by saying there were a couple different events going on in the city the weekend I... More

Not so good location, 10 min walking to the closest merto and bus station. This is in the middle of the Gamla Stan but nothing interesting there exept to shops and very expensive restaurants. You can stay far far away from the center but close to metro station and it will be much cheaper and convinient. Bad value to money,... More

I stayed here for 4 nights. The location is excellent, right in the centre of Gamla Stan so easy to reach all the main sights, the quays for the boats etc. I can see being directly on the Main Street would be noisy but I was to the side and it was just fine. My room was small but quite... More

This hotel is right in the heart of Gamla Stan, so it's a perfect place to hang your hat while exploring the Old Town section of Stockholm. The rooms are compact, and the entire hotel are decorated with a nautical them. The hotel provides breakfast to its guests in a dining area, but there isn't a regular restaurant there. This... More

I have nothing but praise for this hotel. It's in a terrific location in Gamla Stan (Old Town) with lots of places to eat nearby. It's also convenient to a central shopping district and close to the Swedish Parliament. The staff were unfailingly polite and helpful. Phillip at the front desk in particular was always willing to help.

Often, with budget accommodation, I find myself going 'well...at least it was cheap'. This was one of those rare occasions where I'd actually be happy to return. I'll start with the downsides : the room was quite tiny - if you're 6' tall, you might want to think carefully about the single rooms, with the narrow single bed and tight... More

I enjoy hotels which are somewhat out of the ordinary. Lord Nelson has a nautical theme, and has regular keys with a large brass buckle. I was met in a very friendly way. The local is in the middle of "Gamla Stan", and about 15m walk from the Arlanda Express station, through the shopping streets. I saw some complaints that... More

Very special building, Ohly 6 meters from corner to corner. The interior is like a ship with a lot of details, photos of different ships. The rooms are small and like cabins. Breakfast not big but enough.

Just returned from this small quaint hotel. Its situated in a busy pedestrian street in the middle of the Old Town. The location is fantastic with shops, bars, cafes, and resturants on your doorstep. The rooms are small but they have all the amenaties you need. Breakfast is the usual coffee/juices/fresh bread/cheese/ham/yogurt etc. The staff are all amazing (special mention must go to... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighborhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Lord Nelson Hotel is an intimate, friendly and pleasant hotel right in the heart of Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s Old Town. You find the hotel on the main street, close to the city centre and all the capital’s sights and attractions. But the hotel itself is also an attraction, as it contains a unique, private collection of maritime antiques – passionately gathered through the decades by the owner family Bengtsson. All rooms have been designed and decorated to resemble cabins on a ship. The building dates from the 17th century and at just under six metres wide, this property is undoubtedly Sweden’s narrowest hotel. In the Summer time the hotel guests can enjoy a Beautiful view on Poop Deck, the roof top terrace. The Continental Breakfast has an organic a fairtrade profile, and the hotel offers free coffe and tea service in the library on the first floor. ... more   less
