Norrmalm is Stockholm’s most central and busiest neighborhood. It’s home to the main shopping street, Drottninggatan, and to Stockholm icons like the Sergels Torg glass obelisk, the famous Hay Market with its Carl Milles sculptures, and the Hötorget Skyscrapers, a sight on every other Stockholm postcard. Norrmalm is also home to Sweden’s most traditional department stores Nordiska Kompaniet and Åhléns City juxtaposed with Stockholm’s most modern shopping mall, Mood Stockholm. Visitors to this area get to experience the unique Swedish philosophy of protecting cultural heritage while also staying on top of fashion innovation and modern architecture.
Quick getaway last weekend of November. Not far from City Terminalen either, prob 15 mins walk 20 if even that. It’s great location, overlooking harbour, Gamla Stan on the door step, Palace 5 mins walk away.
Great base to explore. Not sure if I’d rate it at 5 star. It was ok, definitely overrated in terms of room and service. Had to wait quite a bit to be seen when we first arrived, unfortunately rooms weren’t ready but we were expecting that we arrived around noon. Staff were ok, seemed that could do with a coffee to wake up a bit. told breakfast wasn’t included which we knew told us it was fully booked. Would be helpful to have recommendations at hand rather than have seek this information from concierge.
Rooms were clean, we didn’t have a view but that’s fine but seemed very let down as expectations for 5 star wasn’t this. Didn’t have the luxury feeling nor the world class service I expected.
We took a chance to stay here due to location and reviews. would say Good rather than very good but the location probably helps.
My partner went for a massage and he said it was amazing so he was pleased with that.
Rooms come with slippers, gown, Bogetta Venetta shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, there are also toiletries for him and her including shaving kits, shower cap, cotton pads etc. The hairdryer is a proper hairdryer which was nice and also a travel adaptor, iron and ironing board. Complimentary water is refilled and there is a mini bar in the room.
We went for a drink in the bar one evening and must say that was rather nice.
I would say this is more 4 star, I’m not sure if I would recommend it. I think if the idea is relaxing spa break then yes but if you want world class service and a room to match.. maybe not. It looked like it tried hard to be elegant and classy but I just didn’t quite get that when I walked into to the room nor during our stay. Not for me... maybe it is for others...
This is a super good hotel. You feel that you are experiencing something special. We had an amazing view of the royal palace from our oversized suite. The breakfast was what you would expect here... Awesome. The bar was also fantastic. Great drinks and great staff. All in all a fantastic experience.
The hotel is very well located in front of the Royal Palace, rooms are "fresh", and the view on the port from them is perfect. The hotel has good atmosphere especially for the Xmas periods.
Meanwhile, arriving on early morning, do not count on the staff to give you a call when the room is ready, they DO NOT do it. (at least Johan) Do not expect that when you come a bit later, they have put your luggages in the room, they DO NOT it. Do not expect to benefit from the SPA on Saturday, overcrowded... and when you ask to be called back when available, they DO NOT do it. Do not expect to have breakfast at 9AM on weekend, from 9 till 10, you will have to queue 15 min, or people not living in the hotel will take place because they booked.
Please be aware that iron available in the room is steam-less.
This hotel is beautiful and the service was phenomenal. The spa was fantastic. The fitness facility was clean and had all needed equipment. The restaurant and bar were beautiful with great food and drink and service. Only thing: it's expensive...but then so is all of Sweden.
We stayed here twice in November and both the times our rooms were GRAND, with views of the harbor and the palace across. One room had a very nice balcony and the other one was bigger. The restaurants (Cadier Bar, the Veranda restaurant and Mathais Dahlgren's Michelin starred Matbaren - all were really great!).
The staff (everyone) was very helpful and nice. Not being a Nobel laureate (this is the hotel where the Nobel laureates stay when they arrive for the ceremony), I was expecting an experience that could be reserved for commoners like us, but that wasn't the case. We were treated very well!
The cocktails at Cadier are excellent. The buffet breakfast at Veranda is huge! Matbaren served up such tasty fusion food for lunch.
I would definitely stay at the Grand again when I am in Stockholm.
