Loved our room, air conditioning didn't work our first day. The desk clerks didn't care to check our problem. The next day we met Peter who saved our remaining days by simply asking if he could check the air conditioning and the problem easily solved. Peter then credited a night, plus Chocolates & Champagne. One of the most delightful persons...

chose Victory Hotel for location. Arrived in to Stockholm via express train from airport. Hotel is within walking distance. About a 15 minute easy walk. Check in was quick. We had a room facing street with a king bed and small sitting area. If you want modern and new do not stay here. We enjoyed the "oldness" and quirkiness of...

Stayed 4 nights from 08 August. Being a mere 150 metres from the Gamla Stan T-bana station it is central to most central Stockholm tourist access points. The main thing to note is the chunky street cobbles throughout Gamla Stan and these can be a bit ruthless on wheeled suitcases, so note this. Had room 308 (unrequested), overlooking side lane...

Better than average hotel. The maritime theme was carried throughout the hotel. Tidy and clean. Room was small as noted in other reviews but it was workable. Decent sized bathroom. Elevator to upper floors. The service at the front desk was very good and friendly. Very good breakfast buffet, including Swedish pancakes, fruit smoothies, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, meatballs, bacon,...

Weekend with a family of three in one of their suites. Spacy room with bubble bath. great service and really good room service food. Nice and clean. The rooms could use a bit brushing up, but were nice. The staff was really friendly and helpful, and this must be one of the best locations in Stockholm.

The hotel is charming and there are lots of nautical themed decorations in the lobby, on each floor, and in the room. The room was small with only a twin bed, but it was very clean. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful with restaurant and sightseeing recommendations. My room was 1690 SEK (Friday) and 1190 SEK (Saturday and...

I like this hotel. It has charme and the owners have put a lot of effort in creating an authentic, cozy and special place. The rooms interior looks like from the past centuries when Stockholm was the center of seafares. The breakfast which was included offers a great selection for everyone. The wine bar is also worth a visit, not...

This was a wonderful boutique hotel in Stockholm's old town. Location is excellent for tourists as you can walk all around old town and the metro is only a couple of blocks away. You are also pretty much surrounded by restaurants. I have to admit that I like old, well maintained heritage hotels while visiting Europe and this is one...

We've been to Stockholm several times, and have stayed in the Ostermalm and Norrmalm neighborhoods. This time around we decided to stay in Gamla Stan, the old city, even though we were sure we would be surrounded by kitsch and crowds. Yes, there are hordes of tourists on the main drags, but step away from those, and you're in quiet...

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighborhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Victory Hotel is a welcoming and exclusive hotel with a personal atmosphere in a perfect location in Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s charming Old Town. The fact is that the hotel is a tourist attraction in itself. It contains a unique, private collection of maritime antiques, passionately selected by the collector himself, the hotel's founder Gunnar Bengtsson. There are three restaurants and one bar in the hotel; Djuret (The Whole Beast), Omakase, The Burgundy and The Comfortable Bar Tweed. The breakfast has a selection of cold cuts and hot items and is served in the downstairs dining room, which also has the remnants of a defence tower from the medival city wall on display. The hotel serves complimentary coffe and tea to all their guests and to unwind you can use the Sauna and Relax area exclusively, and free of charge. ... more   less
