Location-wise this is fantastic, very central although not that useful during the mid-summer bank holiday, when quite literally everything is closed and Kalmar looks like a ghost town.
At first they couldn't find my reservation, which scared me because the hotel was pretty much fully booked, but then they managed to locate it. It was because of a change of systems. They kindly offered me a restaurant voucher that I couldn't use because the restaurant there is always fully booked due to guess what? Covid! Of course! What else would it be these days? That said, I always ate outside.
The beds are nice and rooms clean but quite small. Bathroom was decent, with a decent shower. Because of the location, it gets noisy on weekends, when hordes of drunk people migrate from the city centre to other areas, crossing the hotel. It is a cross we all must bear in Sweden.
Overall, a decent stay and a very good breakfast, too.

Excellent positioned in the centre of Kalmar, this hotel is a good stay in Kalmar. Travelling in COVID-times makes some things hard to review, like the breakfast that was clearly subpar Swedish standard. Too little, too spread out and few choices (this might be COVID related). The room I got was small but comfy. One big bag, not more. Fun thing - they had dumbbells in the room (4kg). Parking (free between 18-09) on the street is close by.

Hotel cancelled my reservation, without asking me. Then I was offered a more expensive deal instead. My room was called a junior suite, but it was like a old personnel facility with furniture that was old, worn out, ugly and cheap. On top of that, it was hot, the temperature was well over 30 degrees celcius

After a 3-night stay, I noticed several areas that could be improved. The bed in my room was so soft that the bottom of it almost folded upwards. At 90 cm wide, it was also too short (and I’m of average Scandinavian height), which didn’t make for a good night’s sleep. It was also worn down on the right side. The hotel provided a wooden board to firm up the bed, which I accepted, but it ended up being too hard to sleep on. Unfortunately, the hotel was fully booked, so no alternative rooms were available. The window insulation was poor, resulting in a constant draft that made the room feel chilly and damp. There was no electric heater available, as they had reportedly broken down six months prior, according to the staff. The bathroom also lacked functional floor heating, leaving it cold and damp throughout the day. More concerning was the lack of fire escape instructions in the room, which is standard in most hotels I’ve stayed at. There was no useful information provided without scanning a QR code (not all guests have a smartphone even if I have one). While the staff were friendly, and the location and historical charm of the building were appealing, these factors couldn’t fully compensate for the discomfort and safety concerns. I hope that the management can relate to my thoughts and not discard them.

Hi Rikard, Thank you for writing to us regarding your stay. Thank you for letting us know that fire escape instructions is missing in the room that you stayed in. That is something that should be in all rooms. So we will make sure that it will be at place. Iam sorry to hear that you didn't find the bed comfortable. We have the same type of beds in all rooms Carpe Diem, and some think that the beds are to soft. If the mattress is worn down we will have to change it of course. We will also have our maintenance staff have a look at the window and the bathroom. That you got information from front desk that we did not have heaters, is unfortunate, because we do. I will update my staff with correct information and instructions where to find the heaters if needed, Especially now when we are going towards colder temperatures. A mediocre hotel, big new, soft bed in a too small, warm room.
Two bags and the room was full, two fans were set in the room, one was of course a little broken so the fan blades hit at the slightest touch and unpleasant noise as a result. Really exciting in the middle of the night.
The shower water flowed from the floor drain and the toilet tilted.
Expensive and not worth the money in high season. Have stayed at better motels

A very nice and well situated hotel in the city center. We booked the lowest rate standard room at time of booking and were pleased with the room we got.
We were on the 2nd floor. We heard no noise from the hotel. But both nights a car passed the hotel around 2am with its sound system blasting, so that was the only disruption. And that is not the fault of the hotel. We heard NO noises from the pub or any other surrounding business.
Clean, comfortable room with a nice bathroom.
Breakfast was huge and very good quality.
The Scottish Pub was a great place to relax and we enjoyed drinks out front overlooking the square.
We would definitely stay here again.

Me & my fiancé stayed at this hotel for 1 night in mid June 2024. The hotel itself was very nice, staff were pleasant & polite, the breakfast was very nice & varied, the room was clean & modern with lots of little extras included such as earplugs, bottled water & toiletries.
The only reason we haven't gave this hotel 5 stars is that the bathroom had a strong odour of sewage, likely coming from the drains which was unpleasant. Had we have been staying for longer than 1 night we would have requested to change room.
A nice hotel in a nice city which I would recommend to anyone who is visiting Kalmar.
If you are parking in Kalmar, we would recommend you use the long stay green public car parks nearby which are a 5 minute walk to the hotel.

We upgraded for only 200 SEK and got room 225, which was large and comfortable, and overlooking the main square and cathedral.
Breakfast was plentiful.
The friendly staff assisted us with an additional single bed madras - as we wanted separate beds.
