We were recommended this hotel by a friend who lives in Kalmar and so we had high hopes for a nice stay. We had tried to book a room in the main hotel but unfortunately, it was booked out, so we opted for their budget accommodation in a building across the road. The photos looked nice. the main building was quite beautiful and we were greeted at reception with smiles and enthusiasm. Ebba, one of the staff gave us a brief and interesting history of the building and its original owners, so we felt like we were off to a good start. Our room was neat at first glance but noticed that it was sparsely decorated and had no bedside tables, which we thought was a little odd. The bed seemed nice and comfortable which made us happy. After returning from dinner that evening we found a number of issues in the bathroom that seemed un-exceptable. The shower was extremely basic. The shower curtain was old, there was soap build up on the shower window and door, the shower soap was empty, the basin was loose and the glass shelf above it was also loose and rested on on angle. You had to put the glasses to the back of the shelf to prevent them from sliding off. We also found nuts of some kind on the floor under one of the chairs. What came next was greatly disappointing. Upon pulling back the doona on the bed we saw 3 silverfish skuttle across the sheet. Although we had a laugh, it was certainly not what we expected. Aside from that, we slept ok and the next morning we very much enjoyed the breakfast they had on offer. It was all very fresh and all very tasty. I went to reception as a coutesy to let them know the issues we had experienced and although the young girl wrote down what I told her explaining she would let management know, we were not offered an apology. That surprised me considering we are both seasoned travellers and have come to expect better. So when we arrived home I wrote a polite email to the manager detailing our stay and that although we recognise that sometimes cleaners etc can overlook things and just wanted to let them know of our disappointment. We received no reply. So I wrote to their facebook page and inquired if we would get a reply regarding our email. The post was read but again we received no reply. Sorry , but for an establishment that seems to have most of the boxes ticked in a stunning setting and friendly helpful staff, you do not win any points for your inability to show respect to a customer who thought bringing these issues to your attention would help. Someone needs to pull their socks up.

We spent a night in this nice hotel close to the castle of Kalmar after a road trip through Öland for Easter. The superior room is nice, clean and comfortable. The TV is outdated but we don't watch TV, so that's fine. Wifi is free. Beds are little soft for us and anyway comfortable. The bathroom was obviously renovated a few months ago. Good taste, good equipment and practical shower.
A very good experience for us.
There is a restaurant, serving food cooked and/or baked on place. The diner was both copious and fine dining, we enjoyed the menu, in an airy dining room on the other side of the patio. First time we get real "home made" pancakes for breakfast in our 3 nights road trip. :). The rest of the breakfast buffet is well organized and very nice.
The central heating system, obviously upgraded in the recent months was showing needs for venting the air inside the radiators and probably more water pressure, we had dripping sound during our stay, it was not a big deal for us, but I suspect it can be deal breaker for others.
Parking on the street besides the hotel entrance was free, probably due to weekend.

We slept well in comfortable beds and the overall cleanness was ok. Prepare for people walking by to have a peek if you are living on the ground floor. We liked the ambiance of the hotel and had a late night drink in the lobby. We parked our car around the corner which worked fine. Staff was very lovely and helpful. The hotel needs some renovations - our bathroom was sprung from the 80’s, the TV had no international chains or services, the wifi was weak and the hotel doesn’t use key cards. However, the courtyard was very cute and the breakfast superb and we were very happy with our stay.

Excellent service and atmosphere at this little gem in Kalmar.
Beautiful outdoor restaurant at their courtyard.
All tables were well separated according to Covid guidelines.
We are definitely returning for more food and drinks with the hope they will continue to deliver.

We stayed in Slottshotellet Budget for 3 nights in the last week of June as a couple with our child of 11 years. It’s at a prime location about 250 m from the Kalmar castle. Beautiful Oland and the Glasriket areas of Sweden are easily accessible by car from here.

There is reserved but paid parking (75SEK/24 hr) in a private lot behind the hotel and also on the street. You could try and save money if you get street parking between 3 PM and 9 AM on week-days and all day on week-ends.

Lady at the reception was helpful, courteous and welcoming. She even made calls for us on her cell when we wanted to know certain timings for a museum at out next destination in another city and personally delivered third set of towels missing from our room. Free tea/coffee is available all the time in the beautiful lounge at the reception.

Breakfast was quite a nice buffet, though limited in number of items, with both hot and cold dishes. The evening dinner is definitely a money saver and is quite filling. It was again a limited (number of items) buffet. On the first evening, there was mushroom soup, greek salad and pasta. On the second evening there was asparagus soup, green salad, rice (paella). On the third and last evening there was asparagus soup, cabbage salad, boiled potatoes, rice (paella).

The budget rooms are in a 2 storied building across the street while the expensive ones are in the main hotel. There is no lift but a small flight of stairs. Our budget room was basic but very clean and quite spacious. We had a view of the garden behind the building. Main entrances to the building are always locked and you get the key along with the one for your room. We did keep the window open for fresh air but were disturbed by a group who had taken up some chairs in the garden just outside our window, so had to shut it to prevent the noise. The room had two single and one folding bed, had parquet flooring, a writing desk with chair, a 1+1 seater sofa set, small TV set, an additional stool and a hair dryer. Wifi signal was ok in the room. There wasn’t any room telephone, no coffee-maker, no iron for pressing clothes, no minibar, no wardrobe (just space with hangars) and no air-conditioning (luckily it was quite cool during our visit).

Washroom/ toilet was big but without toiletries (there was a soap dispenser). Tea-coffee is always available at the reception along with some cookies.
The room price was probably the most reasonable of all the towns we stayed in Sweden.

well, important things have been stated in previous reviews, that is a quiet place, centrally located, nice rooms, GREAT parlor next to reception, kind of manor house feeling comes up in there, free tea and coffee at all times, nice and friendly staff - a great place.
ps: the reason why we were able to enjoy a stay at the slottshotelette was that the frimurare hotelette, a 5 minutes' walk away (see review) was booked out, and we had to move out after some good night's sleep.

We stayed there one night during our summer vacation in Sweden. Our Room was nice, clean and "individual". Service was friendly, food and breakfirst also very good. Hotel is in walking distance very nearby the Kalmar castle. And the house and place itself is very nice with some tasteful public rooms, some small balconies and a terasse in the courtyard. You could relax, being in the middle of the city.

Definitly a hotel I would recommend to my friends.

The setting for this hotel was magnificent, right next to a park and within walking distance of the Kalmar Castle. The breakfast and the service were great. The architecture of the hotel...just as glorious. The setback came when we opened the door to our room. We ordered a triple and that is what we got. My dad, my brother, and I had quite a time trying to negotiate space and movement and it made for a somewhat uncomfortable stay. Given what we paid, it was quite a disappointment, yet, aside from that, it was a wonderful place.

Note that this is a review of Slottshotellet's Annex, which is their budget accommodation.

The room as such was large enough for us (two adults, one child) and the beds were good enough. And "good enough" could be used as an over all label for the general experience of the Annex.

What then should they do to get a Very Good (4) for the money paid?

Well, in no particular order they need more than three clothes-hangers in a three-person room; somewhere to place the toiletry kit except on the bathroom floor; and perhaps somewhere to place clothes when showering. A bedside table or two would come in handy, too, instead of having to have reading material, phone/alarm clock or glass down on the floor, and a guest folder detailing local restaurants that still exist wouldn't come amiss either.
And I've stayed at cheaper hotels that still offer a small fridge - it doesn't need to be a minibar facility.

Also I might be a perfectionist but I expect signs of previous guests being removed from a hotel room, such as the old fries found under an armchair.

The breakfast is decent and the staff is service minded - this helps the general impression and is a marked improvement from my previous stay.

In evenings a light dinner is served, courtesy of the hotel. Husband, who all in all thinks higher of this hotel than I do, have stayed here while travelling alone and according to him this dinner is decent enough if you're just after food. This would come in nice if your stay is due to work.

The location is great, close to both town, railway station and bus station, and practically IN the castle park/city park, and across the street from the art museum. We have never experienced problems with parking.

They have a garage, I think it is 70 SEK per night but you can as mentioned above park in street for 2 hours with disc and then move a couple of meters and stay another 3 hours. Not very convenient if you don't plan to use car so probably best is Hotel parking. Mats
