The snowshoe has very old decor, and yes, they are still using old style bedspreads. The windows open but in winter frost over as they are single pane windows. Bathtubs are smallish but there is ample water pressure. Shared kitchens are available with some rooms but the doors joining rooms to kitchens are paper thin and allow full sound penetration.... I have read bad reviews about this hotel. Forget them if you like 'Energy'. A great place in a small Northern Community with Original People. There is this Energy in this small motel that I have never experienced in my Lifetime. Something special. Unknown. Has to do with something about Great Slave Lake 'starting' one of the Greatest Rivers on... More

Every imaginable patters for flooring, upholstery, bed covers and pictures were on display here, in quite extraordinary combinations. Clearly, one does not throw things away, and replacing furnishings seems to be a semi-centenarian experience. No matter; the property is perfectly located close to the highway, extremely friendly, warm (a book in the winter, but less so in their short summer)... More

We stayed here on our drive to our new posting to YK. Positive: the staff was friendly and the views of the Mackenzie river were pretty. (Flies were very bad though) Overall, was a pretty quiet place to sleep. Negative: We had a pet with us, and were forced to stay in a "smoking room", which indeed was very smoky... More

The place appears clean but there is an odour that is not identifiable. It could be a combination of many smoking rooms, mildew, mould and maybe pot. It seems to be everywhere. I'd recommend that you keep going to find something else.

Stayed 1 night late April 2013 en route to Yellowknife. Room right out of the 1970's, right down to the shag carpet. Way overpriced, at about $200for a single. Saw many government vehicles in the parking - seems clear, as the only hotel here, that they are happy to milk the government, and tourists be damned. Very unfriendly check-in, dealt... More

We stayed here recently due to the forest fire road closure. The rooms are dated and there is no air conditioning. The staff person provided us with a fan and we left the door open to the air conditioned hallway to seek relief from the heat. They had a very good instruction sheet for the TV.The rooms had a fridge,... More

This was the first place to eat after driving 100's of kilometers south from Yellow Knife. It was casual but clean and the food was good. My fries were excellent. The pies looked good. The cafe seemed to be open until 7pm every day.

Clean, quiet, friendly. TV works great. Wifi a little touchy, $12.50 for what we needed. Filled up at the Shell outside of town, and their wifi was free. View out our window of the river was priceless. Other reviews are pretty much on target.

Location is very good on the bank of the river and the view over the Mackenzie is great. The hotel furnishings are a bit dated but overall we had no problems. The room was an OK size and clean with satellite TV and pretty comfortable beds. Staff was always very welcoming and accomodating, check-in and check-out were easy. Across the... More
