Good location - 5 minutes to the city centre. The host is very friendly, talkative and always willing to share some stories from his many travels. He also tried and made the stay in his hotel as fit to my needs as possibe.
Having stayed multiple times at Magles Smiley Inn, I feel very comfortable giving my warm recommendations! The owner is goodhearted and very service-minded. As some previous reviewers have stated, there is selldom any staff around upon arrival, but by talking to the owner before arriving (e-mial with info and contact details are sent out some time before arrival) you can get all the information you need and make the request that you wish. I have yet to encounter any kind of problem. The building is old and cosy, with rooms that are nicely decorated, warm and in good condition. The beds are super nice and the location is one of the absolute best in Lund with the absolute city center only a couple of minutes away by foot, but situated on a very quiet street; the best of both worlds!…
I arrived late and entered the house with a code I had received in advance. The room was nice and cosy and the surroundings are picturesque and walkable. Breakfast was served from 07.30 and it was adequate, but not impressive. There is a Nespresso coffee machine for use whenever you need a cup.
I stayed at this bed and breakfast last night and checked out this morning. The issue that makes this an absolute hoot rid stay is one of the owners. I came down this morning to eat my breakfast and mentally prepare for my lecture. Got a meager plate of bread, two cherry tomatoes and two slices of cucumber. As I was eating he wouldn’t leave me alone. He first started asking where I was from, which I find very uncomfortable but also disruptive. I told him I was Swedish from Stockholm but He insisted on finding out where in Africa I was from. Despite me telling him and informing him these were very uncomfortable conversations to have with people I don’t know and who definitely are only asking me so they can tell me about their own experiences travelling in “Africa” but he continued at length until I had to get up from my table and leave. He lacks all social decorum and forces conversations with customers that perhaps want to eat in silence. As I went upstairs and got my bags and came back down to leave. He opened the front door for me and gave me a very racist and uncalled for advice. He said “I am going to give you one advice next time you stay at a hotel don’t leave food leftovers on your plate, think of all the starving african children” Firstly he is arrogant, he is ignorant and he lacks all knowledge of social structures and ques. He likes to impose himself and his irrelevant views on women and black women at that. He has zero interest in allowing you to speak so any conversation is grossly one sided in his favour and his chauvinistic behavior makes me never wish to stay at this hotel again, if you a lone traveler, female or otherwise avoid this place like the plague. To the owner if you read this I truly hope you take this critique as it is intended. A reminder that just because someone stays at your hotel they are not looking for your company, not your opinions on Africa or how they should eat. Furthermore African children surely will never be helped by one half eaten sandwich a cherry tomato and a stale piece of cheese. Your attitude is what made me leave my plate of food as you are VERY INTRUSIVE Get over yourself and leave your guests alone to eat!…
The location is great, just a couple of hundred metres from the cathedral and town centre. But as others say, make sure you read your e-mails before you arrive. I got locked out of my e-mail account a couple of days before and therefore missed the e-mails about breakfast times and how to pay. We were leaving early on a Saturday but only found on arrival that breakfast starts at 0900 hrs. You can book it earlier but you have to give 24 hrs notice. And as others also say, don't expect to see anyone around on your arrival. So in order to pay you have to hang around for a late breakfast - bear this in mind if you have to make an early start. The room was fine except that it has windows to the bedroom cut out of the shower wall. This is great if you like to see your other half sitting on the toilet or showering but a little unexpected. Come on Magles - do something about it! Parking is nearby if you book beforehand but only runs from 1800 to 0730 hrs, with heavy warnings not to park outside these times - except you can't park there and have breakfast as well. All that said, I'd stay there again as it better to be in town than some of the hotels on the outskirts that aren't within walking distance.…
The host is very friendly and knowledgable about Lund. He has given us many useful tips on dining out, lunch places, where to drink wine, where to drink beer and the market. The breakfast is good and fresh and the bread is of high quality. Wide range of bread topp8ngs. Good filter coffee. Nespresso is available as well. Great bed.
We arrived at the doorstep of this inn slightly after 4:00pm. The doors were locked and a note on the door had a phone number to call but only an answering machine said something in Swedish. Luckily someone exited the building a little later and questioned us whether we had received an e-Mail form Magles Smiley Inn. We had but didn't read it. It contained the access code how to open the door and the number of the pre-assigned room. The helpful person also pointed out a note inside the building where to park the car because this can be a real problem in Lund. The note referred to a shelf where a parking permit for the dash can be found. It took us a while to figure out that the shelf to look for was actually a drawer. The room (red) was very practical and modern. The mattress was too soft for our taste. The room faced to the (cobblestone) street. Since it was quite warm we had to leave the window ajar but the street noise was very disturbing. Therefore try and obtain one of the 2 rooms facing the garden (color coded blue and orange). The breakfast was good. The location perfect for discovering the city.…
We were 2 couples staying 3 days at Magles Smiley Inn while we attended a wedding in Lund. Alex looked after us superbly; making sure we had everything we wanted for breakfast, lending us an iron for our shirts, a bell for the wedding and even helping us to practice our Swedish for our speeches! The place itself is very well located in the centre of Lund on a quiet street with spacious rooms and a lovely sunny balcony to relax. We would highly recommend staying here. A great welcome and a lovely place.
I very much enjoyed my stay here. It's true that you will not see staff until breakfast, but the email communication with Alexander and Stefan both before and during my stay were excellent. As promised, I was emailed an entry code the day before my arrival, and it opened the door without a hitch. Prior to my arrival, Alexander was helpful in explaining the parking. It is just a few steps away; you just have to stop at the inn first, using your entry code, and get a parking pass, which you display on your dashboard in the nearby lot. My map found the place easily. The building is pretty and charming, but rooms are modern and very well equipped. I was in the blue room and it was perfect. Great shower, excellent quality bed, great lighting, strong wifi, plenty of room to unpack, super clean, a pitcher of water waiting for me, a lovely view from my window. It is no more than a 5 minute walk to the church and university. You are in the center of it all. I would recommend this place highly.…
The room was attractively designed. The shower being glazed to the room would not please everyone would bother some. Breakfast was somewhat Spartan. The biggest negative was the invisibility of the staff: we saw no one until breakfast. Even small hotels normally have someone there when you arrive.
