Detailed Reviews

We have just spent a wonderful 10 days in Kefalonia and in this hotel. The hotel is a perfect base for exploring the island and is run by Ilias & Peri and their wonderful family along with Irene who made our stay even more special. The hotel was spotless and the rooms cleaned each day and towels replaced. The air conditioning was a must which worked perfectly. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by Ilias & Peri and straight away I knew we were going to be well looked after, the pool and area around the pool was spotless with plenty of sun beds. If you want to explore the island then you will need a car which Ilias arranged for us and we were able to visit Fiskardo, Skala and Argostoli along with Myrtis Beach and also Platis Galios beach which were amazing. There are a few restaurants nearby but to get the full Greek experience you have to travel further afield. The taxi to Argostoli is €15 and there is also a bus on a Wednesday and Thursday night which picks you up from hotel and drops you back and is €4 each way. There is also a bus that takes you to Lourdes Beach but this is a shingle beach.
This was one of our best holidays and made even more special with the kindness of the Greek people and especially the owners of this hotel.
Thank you Ilias & Peri we have made some great friends and keep on doing what you do and make special memories for many more

Excellent value for money. The rooms are basic but do the job, great air conditioning, kettle, fridge, hairdryer and toiletries in bathroom. It’s the first time we have stayed in a 2 star hotel, usually 4 or 5 star however we would go back to the Ionis. The best bit is the pool, excellent and better than some 5 star pools, lovely temperature spotlessly clean, great Sun beds. Breakfast is fine with a small hot selection, lovely Greek yogurt, fruit, fresh bread etc.Snack bar by the pool does lunch snacks and drinks all fine.
Great taverna opposite the hotel is very cheap and serves fabulous food, Greek salad is superb - large bowl for 2 is about 6 euros, pork and chicken souvlaki and my recommendation is the pork chop meal….outstanding
2 very nice restaurant up the mountain, we walked up some mornings to stretch the legs, takes about an hour quite an incline so you need to be reasonably fit. The owner is a great guy and he will run you up and collect you after your meal for some petrol money, gave him €5. We went to the Olive Lounge which was fabulous and very reasonably priced, wifey had the Prawn pasta and said it was the best she’s ever had and she’s had a few! I had the main event burger which was superb. We also did the Kefalonia excursions, all day tour of the island, picks you up and drops off outside the hotel €35 each - excellent day out including wine tasting. Local bus stop outside the hotel €2 to the main town is worth using went for a lovely lunch at the harbour. Little shop over the road for water beer and wine very cheap

Checked in very quick and allocated room 105 on the ground floor.
Rooms are functional and comfortable as long as you remember it’s only a bed and a shower. Free safe and aircon which is a bonus in the heat. Found the odd film on TV in English which was a bonus.
Breakfast is very good and will cater for everyone’s needs ie continental very good.
The pool area is very well kept and it’s so peaceful not having to race out for beds sometimes we stayed out till well after 7pm. It has a well equipped pool bar serving alcohol and food (Little tip the mythos on draught is €4-80 for 500ml but a 500ml bottle of mythos is €3-60. Every little bit helps 😜)
Ilios will take people up to the two restaurants at the castle every night and pick you up for a small donation for petrol.
A bus takes you to Lourdas beach everyday at 9-45am and picks you up 3pm for €2 pp each way (pity the bus company didn’t extend this to 5pm)
Bus stop across the road for trips into the capital and on a Wednesday and Sunday night there is a minibus put on for €8pp return leaves at 7pm and well worth the trip in to see the capital at night when it comes alive.
Absolutely fantastic grill restaurant across the road that serves stunning food at great prices
Too sum up it was our first time in kefalonia and it far exceeded our expectations mainly due to the hospitality from the family and are already looking at booking again
PS ilias best practice on the karaoke

As a busy member of the clergy, my wife and I were looking for somewhere quiet. The Ionis Hotel fitted the bill perfectly. The hotel is in a quiet village devoid of the usual tourist gift shops and tat, placed in a countryside overlooked by a great castle. There is a grill taverna nearby and small shop. and Illias, the owner, will take visitors up to tavernas by the castle for the cost of the petrol. Despite the quiet vibe, there is a pool with a pool snack bar and weekly music night, plus a morning bus to the capital, Argostoli. There is also regular bus service to a nearby beach. Whilst the rooms may be in need of updating, they are extremely comfortable, with a fridge, kettle, aircon, and safe all included. The pool and grounds are immaculate. Illias and all the staff work extremely hard, and we would be happy to return.

The hotel is very tired and needs modernisation. We were in room 306 which is very small especially the shower room. You sit on the toilet and your knees hit wall. There
Is also not enough cupboard space to hang clothes and no drawer units for clothes whatsoever. Thankfully there was another single bed in the room which we were able to keep our cases on, if e had to put them on the floor it would have been awful as we would keep falling over them. They need to remove the bed and put a wardrobe and drawer set there.
Irene the barmaid at the pool bar was the star of this hotel, her interaction with holiday makers was amazing, she’s funny and interesting.
Perri was hardworking and very helpful but unfortunately Illias was extremely arrogant and rude at times which unfortunately ruined a couple of days off our weeks holiday. He seemed to favourites who had stayed many times before.
On our last day we had an evening transfer to the airport and we mentioned to him that Perri had said there was a room we could use to have a shower and freshen up before leaving the hotel when he replied there might be but there were other people as well ( only one other couple were leaving that day). When we were waiting outside for our transfer he came out to ask if we wanted the room 5 minutes before our coach was due!!
Also the breakfast was not good. It would have been nicer if there was more fruit to go with the yogurt instead of just water melon every day. Also the bread on most days was stale with hard crusts. We didn’t have the cooked breakfast as the look was not good

I never got a complaint from your during your stay here. Although you say that the hotel is not very good and not 2 star we don't do discounts to the servise we provide. After all the years i look after many people from all over the word and i give to all my quests the same hospitality. In the future we hope you consider returning and giving us another change to impress you. Kind regards,Ilias

Illyas and Peri, the owners, made this a really special trip. Neither of them can do enough for their guests, and Peri even made a special vegetarian mousaka, just for me. It was delicious. Illyas personally drives the guests to and from either of the restaurants that are perched on top of an incredible mountain, in front of the hotel. His recommendations for day trips are brilliant, and I was able to see a lot of this heavenly island for just 35 euros, with a local tour company. I couldn't say one negative thing about my stay at The Ionis, and will be returning next year. It was outstanding.
The atmosphere is one of peace and tranquillity, where I was made to feel like a friend, rather than a profit.

We loved this hotel. Our room had everything we needed - air conditioning, safe, hair dryer, wardrobe with plenty of hangers, great south facing balcony with an awning for shade and a very comfortable bed. Ilias and Perri were lovely and went above and beyond for all their guests. All the staff were really friendly and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The pool area is beautiful and the pool is a great size for doing lengths. It was never too busy. There is a supermarket a few mins walk away and a restaurant across the road which lovely and very cheap. There’s also 2 lovely restaurants up the hill at the castle which are more expensive but are worth it. Views are amazing. Argostoli is 15 mins away in a taxi. The hotel run a mini bus on a Sunday and Wednesday evening which costs €8 each for the return trip. The driver was lovely and made lots of recommendations. Argostoli is beautiful and very vibrant. There’s also a bus from the hotel to Lourdas beach every day except Sunday costing €2 per person each way. We would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely go back. Thank you so much Ilias and Perri and all your staff for an amazing holiday.

I cannot rate this Hotel highly enough. Being a seasoned traveller to many Greek Islands and having travelled extensively for business I would say that it is one of cleanest and most accommodating hotels I have ever stayed in!
The owners and staff are extremely accommodating and friendly any requests are received with courtesy and dealt with efficiently and positively. Breakfast times are unusually extended to accommodate all needs and the choices whilst typically Greek (and that is where you are!) do provide a range to suit all tastes, including vegetarian and vegan. More than you can say for most of the hotels home or abroad. Poolside bar offers a range drinks and snacks at very reasonable prices. Grandma’s Moussaka is outstanding! The rooms are more than adequate, very comfortable with all you need for a holiday and are cleaned thoroughly and regularly. Linen is changed more often than you would reasonably expect! The standard of the pool maintenance is the best I have ever encountered.
It’s a great location from which to explore, yes you may want to hire a car but there is a good bus service to lots of places (ridiculously cheap!) and lots of excursions at very reasonable prices to choose from
I would have no hesitation in going back there. It was a wonderful holiday.
Ignore the negative reviews if you want to experience true Greek hospitality on a beautiful Island this is the place to go.

We spent 2 weeks in this lovely Hotel and would endorse all other reviews already posted.
Everything about this small, family run hotel is good and can't be faulted. It was exactly as we expected and more - we weren't disappointed.
The greatest asset of Ionis is the Family: Ilias, Peri, Dennis (and his sister) & Irene, who were warm, friendly, funny, kind and genuinely lovely people who all work very hard for their guests. it was a pleasure to spend two weeks in their company. We were very sad to leave them and still miss them very much.
The cleaning staff also were friendly and very efficient.
We would highly recommend the Ionis for a peaceful, relaxed holiday in a beautiful village setting, yet within easy reach of Agostoli and beaches ,if desired (even without a car). A 2* Hotel with 5* Value. Gary & John

A lovely family run hotel in a great location. The hotel is small and friendly so unsurprisingly seems to attract return visitors. The outside area is well maintained and there’s a good sized pool.
The rooms are very simply furnished but spotlessly clean and the breakfast is also simple (as you would expect from a 2* hotel).
Ilias, the owner and his wife Peri are always at hand to give advice and help out. Irene, who works behind the bar providing snacks, is delightfully friendly and always happy to recommend places to visit.
We hired a car and explored the island but it would be possible to stay at the hotel without a car as there is a bus service to Argostoli and also to Lourdas. There are restaurants within easy reach - one opposite the hotel and three at the top of the hill. Ilias is happy to give you a lift in the evening to the restaurants and he will also pick you up. We visited the Olive Lounge and it was fantastic in every way with wonderful views ( not too expensive either! ).
If you are looking for a no frills, small hotel in an informal setting this is for you!!

Absolutely fantastic restaurant he's happy to do this for his guests, be sure to book a table! If you have a car the best place for lunch is Kastro cafe next to the castle opposite!
