I have stayed at Phoenix in Aalborg a few times, and experience has been varying. Last time was in mid August 2019. This time we got a room in one of the annexes to the main building, and needed to go out in order to get to the reception or the restaurant. On the positive side: Breakfast is quite nice, but the restaurant tends to be crowded and it can be a problem to find a table. People in the reception are friendly and service minded. On the negative side: The room had a carpet that was far from appetizing, with a lot of stains and generally in such a shape that we only reluctantly walked barefoot in and out of the bathroom. The room had too few electrical outlets, so to charge the mobile phone we had to unplug the TV first. The room was also quite dark, even with all available light on. The shower in the bathroom was equipped with a curtain, which could not prevent the floor from becoming wet. Shower gel and toilet paper was not replenished by the staff, so we had to go to the reception to get more. Also, the corridor in the annex was dark, and in winter my guess is it will also be cold. I must add that generally, as I remember it, rooms in the main building are in somewhat better shape, and on the top floor even rather nice, but if this year's visit had been our first stay at this hotel, it would definitely also had been the last. In general, the room and the whole annex really need upgrading and maintenance.

This won't happen overnight, of course, but the wheels are turning, and the process of renovating the hotel has begun. 3 points out of 5 is generous, more like 2,5. The room we had was stuffy, outdated and could have done with a better clean. The double bed was made but apparently not with the right size sheets resulting in an overlap of sheets on one side of the bed. The duvet for the sofa bed was slightly dusty. There are many things that need fixing and updating (from cracked wall socket cover to tiles in the bathroom) and I'm not sure where the 4 star rating is based on. On the plus side: we stayed only one night, the hotel was central and the room wasn't too expensive, breakfast was ok.

Situated in central Aalborg, with only a few minutes walk to the seaside/harbour. For only a small extra fee we could bring our dog. We got a room for guests with animals with separated entrance and our own key to the room. Room much bigger than expected, almost a junior suite. Not spotless but clean and welcoming. Comfortable bed and enough furniture. Good standard hotel breakfast. Overall a bit worn down but well worth the money.

This is a good option if you want to live very central and not too expensive. You got the centre of Aalborg right outside your doorstep. Plenty parking @ 75 dkk a night. Since I was here last, the place had been redecorated, much of it anyway. Quite nice actually, because it's not all plastic fantastic modern, they kept some of that good old charm. The elevator is what you would call antique... but it works flawlessly, so it's a gem. Some nitty gritty: Small rooms, small bathroom. Worst of all - shower curtains! That's a big no no, most places got rid of those in the 80s. 👎 No fridge, no coffee making facilities, no ventilation. 😖 Good double bed, not too hard. 👍 Good working free wifi. Average breakfast. Like other travelers have pointed out, the boiled eggs are far to soft, more like pouring. I asked them please provide us with a more solid alternative, let those of us who don't like to drink our eggs have some hard boiled ones, please! Seems trivial, but if you travel a lot, these things matter. Especially since the other option in the egg department was scrambled made from powder and water. Which should have been forbidden by law. 🙈 Service minded staff. 👍 If you get a room facing the back, you will hear noise. That's people arriving and leaving, and worse, those crawling back after a heavy night out. They can really be annoying. And you can't close the window, because then you will suffocate. 🥳😴 All in all, apart from some minor stuff, I do like this place. It has that nice feeling. And pots of free coffee in the lobby is a big plus in my book. From what I hear, they have a nice restaurant in the premises too. 😊 Btw - I booked a room with separate beds but got a double... 😕 -Leon 😎

Comfortable room for our stay for 5 nights. Breakfast was good and they also cater for gluten free. If you can request rooms away from the elevator, as it is old and noisy. Is walking distance from central Aalborg and the harbour.
