The Merchant's House is a privately owned boutique guest house located in the 'Heritage Protected Village' of Old Perithia in the north east of Corfu & offers a unique experience of the island as it was in times gone by. A 'Designated Area of Natural Beauty'. The property thoughtfully combines the luxuries of having previously been a four star boutique accommodation. Adapted for the safety of guests you'll receive all the ease & comfort of a 'home away from home'. Day trippers to the village come and go between 10am and 3pm, the rest of the time is yours to enjoy the peace and quiet, eat at the local tavernas, sleep under clear night skies, surrounded by nature and fresh mountain air. Spend days exploring the island or beaches are just 15 minutes drive away. This used to be a hideaway from pirate attacks, a place where you could see, but not be seen from the sea.

Detailed Reviews
Me and my girlfriend stayed at the merchants house for 10 days and enjoyed every single day of it. The hosts Marieke and David are extremely welcoming and kind, constantly ensuring that our stay was as great as it could get with fresh breakfast every morning and great suggestions to discover the island.
Some evenings, we would even play a round of backgammon over a glass of limoncello and talked about everything under the sun.
The hotel is located in a small village in the mountains, well off from the touristic busyness on the coast but close enough to reach it in a 15 min car ride! The village has a nice little square on which you have great Greek taverns with amazing food and exceptional hospitality.
All in all, a highly recommended place to anybody who wants to spend some relaxing time to reset in a place that feels more like visiting friends than a hotel!

This accommodation was superb, the hosts are the most welcoming couple & they have created a real treat in Old Perithia.
The breakfast served was excellent & so was Daves chat!
Would go back here in a heartbeat.
If you are looking for a peaceful & luxurious stay in Corfu, look nowhere else,
The location is incrediblel, many taverns a stones throw away with some of the best food & wine on the island.
Thank you Dave & Marieke for a wonderful experience...wish we could have stayed longer.

The Merchant House is a beautifull place to stay for about 3 to 5 days when you are visiting Corfu. It is located in old Perithia. We took a walk up to Panthocrator, had a swim at a closeby quiet beach and enjoyed the old town with a few good tavernes. The owners of the hotel are very friendly and helpfull and serve a very good breakfast, with local ingredients. The room was spacious (separate bed and livingroom) nicely decorated, clean and had a luxurious bathroom and good bed. We will definitly come back to make some hikes and enjoy the old town en The Merchant House.

A lovely B&B up in the hills about a 15 minute drive from the coast. The Merchants House has a handful of rooms only, really well equipped and done with good taste. Very comfortable bed with nice linens. Lots of storage and great shower with plenty of hot water. Good aircon means a good night's sleep.
Full change of sheets and towels done every three days.
Breakfast is served in the garden, served at your table with fresh fruit, yoghurt and muesli, breads and a choice of cooked eggs. Fresh juice and tea and coffee, all delicious.
Hosts are really helpful on where to visit and will help you plan your day.
The location is a quiet oasis away from the crowds. Day trippers come from around 11.00ish to visit the village. A fair number of people come up to have dinner in one of the good local tavernas, we wondered if this would be noisy but it isn't.
Loved the gin bar in the garden!
Well recommended.

Old Perithia is a truly magical place. A previously abandoned village way up in the mountains of North East Corfu. The village is gradually being reoccupied but still has an abandoned, strangely enticing feel to it. The Merchant house is a great place to stay to experience this wonderful place. The hosts, David and Marieke, were so, so welcoming and helpful and made us feel very at home. The breakfasts were really tasty and enjoyed on the beautiful patio. David’s “gin bar” was also very welcome each evening before we wandered down to the local tavernas.
The suite we had was very comfortable and stylishly furnished.
The old village square was only about 50 metres away with 3 excellent tavernas. We tried them all!
The drive up to the village is not for the faint-heated, about 20 minutes off the main road up a narrow mountain road. After a couple of journeys our confidence increased
In conclusion, this was a wonderful experience and one we would look to repeat at some time in the future

Your hosts David & Marieke make you feel at home and welcome you into the piece of paradise that Merchants House is. The breakfasts set you up for the day, fresh fruit and local produce. The experience is like having your own bit of Corfu. Helpful and knowledgeable about their business the owners are able to answer your questions or help with any problems. Meeting up for a drink at the Gin Bar in the evening is a perfect way to catch up with other guests if you want to. Ideal for a walking holiday and close enough to the local beaches and towns if that's what you prefer. I wholeheartedly recommend this place for anyone who needs a five star plus vacation, the place and people are special and then some.

Truly fantastic stay - way above our expectations
This place is unique - never stayed anywhere quite like this - almost like staying in a film set - the "theatre" of the the enchanting ruins and backdrop of mountains - just takes your breath away - and in the midst of this a four star B&B !!
Great hosts - friendly and professional at all times - Quality in every detail - and just the most quiet and special place - lovely sitting areas around the house - and great local tavernas - the place feels like its brand new - and is totally immaculate !
You also are less than 25 mins - to the popular village of Kassiopi with its great waterfront location and beaches - and then there are great local beaches - and onto the superb seaside gems of Koloura - Kalami - St Stephanos ( please visit the Wave bar !! ) and to Agni if you would like to be seen in all the Right places
Cant fault this magical place - we will return !!!

I had a lovely couple of nights' stay at The Merchant's House. David and Marieke are friendly and welcoming hosts, and go out of their way to ensure your stay is a pleasant one. They gave great tips on local hikes, and prepared a wonderful breakfast every morning, full of local produce.
The accommodation itself was spacious, comfortable, with lots of character. The bed was one of the most comfortable I can remember staying in!
Old Perithia itself was a fascinating place to stay. The local hikes were excellent and the tavernas were welcoming and served delicious food.
I would heartily recommend adding a stay at The Merchant's House to your Corfu itinerary!

Lovingly restored property. Very comfortable, like your own home. David and Marieke were kind and welcoming hosts - just avoid favouring one or other's breakfast offering of eggs - equally excellent! Great selection of tavernas stumbling distance from the house. Wish I had more time to explore the excellent off and on road biking but another time. I could imagine spending weeks here one autumn or spring, writing the book I have always promised to write. Thank you for a lovely relaxing time.

Hi Sarah,
Apologies for the delay... just spotted your Q as it dropped into spam for some peculiar reason.
We're open on on & off and yes it is for sale - ideally as a B&B still but depends on the buyer.
Thanks
