Everything is done well in Ranzo: the food, always superbly fresh and masterfully prepared in the exquisite brick oven, the view, the tasteful and charming stone cottages, and above all presiding a wonderful family. A place to fall in love with.

It's located at Fiscardo and has the best traditional Greek food in Kefalonia (especially katsikaki & kolokythokeftedes). It has a great view especially if you go around 19:30 in the afternoon to enjoy the sunset. Great food, very polite and friendly staff

We staying the blue horizon cottage with private plunge pool. It had amazing views from the terrace and pool, and it was the perfect place to relax in peace. The cottage was spacious, clean, and nicely designed. The staff are very friendly, and the restaurant offered a range of local food at good prices, and a much higher quality than many of the other restaurants in the area. Our only criticism is that it would have been nice to have been given a welcome pack/basics to use in the kitchen (salt, tea etc), as you have to provide everything yourself. Overall a fantastic 4 nights, and good value for a cottage with private terrace/pool.

Simply the best restaurant in this area. Hang a steep right turn in Manganos when the mini-market is on your left and follow the narrow road for a mile before turning right in to the car parking area. There is no menu! You are told what they have by way of starters and mains they have on that particular day, and how many portions too if it is running out! The food is delicious ... we went there twice four years ago and then went twice again this year. It is much more authentic and tasty (and better priced) that the restaurants in Fiscardo. 2 x starters, 2 x mains, wine and water = €50. This is worth travelling to. Make sure you book though as it only serves food between 7pm and 10pm in the evenings, and is usually full.

I'm the restless type, and so after ruining everybody's chill time by the pool, was sent to look at Ranzo Ionia by my wife. Came back an hour or so later having met the enthusiastic father/mother/son team, had a drink and swam in the beautiful pool. I had arranged to eat there the following night. We arrived to meet the father who showed us the food for tonight...all organic and cooked in a wood fire oven. After pre dinner drinks on the terrace (amazing views over the Ionian see), we ordered starters of mixed vegetables, vine leaves stuffed with pork , Tsasiki, and aubergine topped with feta to die for. I had slow cooked lamb with potatoes (beautifully cooked), 2 had the sea bream, and my younger daughter had famous Cephalonia pie which she grudgingly shared, declaring it as the best food she had ever tasted! Rounded off with pudding and coffees, just a joy. Really wonderful setting with really welcoming people with food they obviously care for from their own land...we have put it down as a must for the island. I rarely review, but felt compelled to share.

We stayed at Ranzo Ionio for two weeks in June. We were welcomed by Nikos and his father Giannis (who is the most famous chef in Tzamarelata; no of residents: 6). ‘Our’ place was one of the cozy and well equipped apartments with amazing views over the Ionian Sea. Every night Giannis and his wife Stella cooked the most amazing Greek meals, served by Nikos and Christiana. Giannis uses only organic products, most of which are picked from their own gardens. Stella bakes the best bread in their wood stove oven. The rooms are clean and cozy. A small kitchenette is well equipped with everything you might need during your holidays. The pool has very comfortable pool beds and umbrellas. Within 15 minutes (by car), you’ll find a few of the prettiest beaches of the Island (Alaties, Jerusalem, Emplisi, Foki). Bring you’re own umbrella, offered by Ranzo Ionio. The beautiful village of Fiskardo is also 15 minutes away. Myrthos beach and Assos are both within 30 minutes drive from Ranzo Ionio. If you are looking for a hospitable stay in an amazing area of Kefalonia, we would highly recommend staying at Ranzo Ionio. Thank you Giannis, Nikos, Stella, Christians and the rest of the staff for an amazing two weeks on your beautiful island!!

We stayed for the first two weeks of October, and sadly whilst we loved all the aspects of the island. Our accommodation choice turned out to be disappointing. We had, we thought researched the previous comments on TA on which we based our choice. ( sadly most were written several years ago) Don’t choose here in October when the Accommodation is due to close as we felt like second class citizens. Whilst the accommodation was acceptable it did not exceed our expectations. 1) No welcome pack 2) No microwave 3) No Toaster 4) Very poor utensils , no Chopping board 5) After two Days the Television failed and was not repaired. 6) Light bulb in the lounge remained broken dispute many requests. The one in the bedroom was however replaced. 7 ) No safe deposit Box Having had a e meal at the Taverna on the first night, we felt we should give it another chance on our penultimate night. Following the Brochure Quote:- “Be sure to sample the scrumptious, indigenous homemade dishes and fresh bread offered at the taverna, all prepared in a traditional wood-burning oven We chose chicken with lemon sauce served with potatoes. Sadly it took 80 minutes to arrive with no lemon sauce or potatoes just pasta . The chicken was burnt and dry. We think it was frozen and defrosted, it was inedible. We complained and were offered a no charge for the chicken, but charged for the Pasta !! How generous!! Please Nikos maintain your standards to the end .

I must start at the drive from the Airport. Three things here... 1.They have opened-up the coast road to reduce the drive time to an easy 2 hours. 2 The views are simply fab. But 3, signage leaves a lot to be desired - be prepared. We stayed in Lavender Cottage. It is the biggest of the four. Fantastic views. Bed was quite alright (depends how you like your bed). Sofa good. O/s furniture very combatable including awning. Kettle, toaster, limited knives and forks, limited glasses. No Microwave! The TV/DVD/CD set-up is very tired and a total waste of time. However, the WIFI works well. The shower is a walk-in affair, but again, old, tired without any kind of power. However, the water is hot as required. The maid has no set pattern. No change of towels but I am sure if I would have asked they would have. We did forget to bring beach towels and the family kindly lent us a couple, The pool was of a reasonable size and shared with three other cottages. It’s ok here, but cost too much money for what you overall get. It did not help with endless barking of dogs from very early morning. Sleep was hard work. The island is completely over-run by cats. they were relentlessly strolling around the cottages and every restaurant you visited. Shame. We heard that they were trying to resolve the issue and we hope they do.

I stayed at Ranzo Ionia for 10 days. A most beautiful place to stay. The accommodation is a variety of quaint stone cottages, a taverna and sparkling pool overlooking the ocean. Some private pools are attached to a few if the cottages. Cottages are very comfortable and have elegant finishes. Each one with a breathtaking view. Sunsets are indescribable! The food is authentic greek cooking which is just delicious. Cooking done mostly by the elegant Mamma Stella. I can vouch for everything on the menu right down to the wine. The thing that stood out the most for me besides the beauty that surrounded me was the entire family that owns and runs this place. They are warm beautiful friendly and gracious people. Full of the grecian soul that touches the heart of every one of their guests. Absolutely loved spending my holiday in their care and love. Lots to do on the island and the surrounding villages. Bicycles are also available but be very careful. The roads are narrow and lots of dangerous sharp bends. The beaches are all stunning. Boat trips, early morning hiking, snorkling and exploring was but a few things to do. Fiskardo marina is very close by which was also much enjoyed for shopping. I rate my entire holiday 10 out of 10!! I can recommend you call Nikos to book a cottage. They are very popular so book early.
