We stayed at Hotel Fiona for a week and left feeling on top of the world. The hotel is as authentically Greek as you could wish for and the owners and their family are a joy to be with - more like a family home than a hotel. The Kali Strata workout is an added bonus - however much you drink, you work it all off coming home and go back to work pounds lighter! Thank you so much.
Rather than staying at the overcrowded yacht harbour below, we headed up to Chorio. Our room here had a wonderful view. It is very quiet, yet everything you need is just a step away: there's a fine bakery, a very good shop and an excellent restaurant virtually on your doorstep. Taxirides up from the harbour are very cheap (thank god, because the walk up is very tiring). Communication can be a bit difficult, though, as it is run by an older couple who don't speak much English. We ended up booking the hotel through a Symi travel agency (with extra costs, of course).
Spent 2 nts in this fantastic small family run hotel high above the port. Take a 5 euro Taxi from the ferry port for the 10min journey to this great hotel. Breakfast included, and can be enjoyed on the spacious balcony overlooking the port. Highly recommended!
I spent the most fantastic week on Symi and stayed at Hotel Fiona. The hotel owners Fiona and Mihalis were gracious hosts and Mihalis wanted to ensure that my questions about where I was going in Yialos, Chorio or elsewhere were answered. The hotel was clean, the breakfast on the balcony was a wonderful way to start each day, and the view is indeed the best on the island. Thank you for a memorable stay! I'll be back I hope soon.
Very clean little family hotel, get a taxi up from the harbour, leave the crowd behind and go back down after or before the day trippers. This simple and comfortable hotel has views that would be hard to match, in the center of the village with easy access to good tavernas and a short walk to the bus stop, a great place for exploring the island.
The hotel is very simple clean. The room is spacious with a beautiful view on the enchanting Symi harbour. Breakfast on balcony with the same view from the room. The owners are very helpful. I'd strongly recommend it.
This is a simple, clean hotel, operated by a nice elderly couple. It is also cheap, especially given that this is Symi we're taking about... We had one of the studios on the top floor: a double room with an extra single bed, a little sitting area with sofa, table and 2 armchairs and a kitchenette. Nicely painted wooden ceiling. Two balconies, one at the front with a superb view of Gialos (the port), one at the back looking out on a dusty parking lot and a taverna. We hardly ever opened the back one. Pleased with the facilities and the room, except for the mattress. I'm thin, so I could feel the springs and woke up each day with a painful back and sides! My husband didn't feel a thing and had no problems sleeping. The breakfast is pretty basic but you can get cereal, milk,…
I stayed for 10 days this June/July (2014) and I was extremely pleased. The views over Symi harbour are amazing from the room and the private balcony of each room. The hotel is accessible by taxi (or the Symi bus) and you do not have to climb the stairs (Kali strata), but it is a pleasure to walk them down! Also, there are nice restaurants, cafes and bars at a few meters distance at the Chorio (village) square. The rooms are large , have AC and a fridge, and are spotlessly clean. The breakfast is standard--it could improve with fresh bread though. The owners are a friendly old couple. I found this hotel to be great value for the money, and a much better place to stay than in the noisy, crowded , hot and stuffy Symi harbour.
This is a jewel of a small hotel; breathtaking views over the Symi harbor, large clean rooms, nice breakfast on a veranda with great views, very good quality and variety of buffet breakfast. The location on top of the hill is perfect in the heart of the village that has a local color (as well as restaurants and cafes) rather than the tourist shop dominated harbor. One can go up the hill by bus and walk down the majestic staircase with neoclassical mansions to the harbor. The owners are a very hospitable older couple. The internet was not always strong, but the local cafe near-by has free wi-fi.
We stay at this property in September 2013. The room is quiet spacious with incredible views of the harbor. Now to get there it was a mission. 380 stairs from the harbor. For that you need to be young and feet. We didn't regret it at all. Also the price it was very good. Breakfast is a big disappointment. Don't even bother to spend time for breakfast at the hotel. Very close by is a beautiful traditional old bakery with delicious pies. Try to start your day there.
