We stayed for 3 nights in one of the upper rooms with balcony which had stunning views over Symi harbour and lovely sunset views. The room was clean and pleasant although no comfy chairs to sit on on the balcony. Breakfast was typically greek but adequate and also include boiled eggs which was a big plus! The walk down to the harbour was no problem but hard work coming back up. However bus only 1 Euro and runs every hour. Well worth it for the position. Rooms had safe and fridge and decent air conditioning which was a big plus in June! Well equipped supermarket just opposite hotel as well which was highly convenient. Symi if gorgeous. Visit the resteraunt Haritomeni which also has fantastic food at a good price and excellent views for the sunset. Hotel Fiona is excellent value for money. Just get one of the upper rooms with balcony for best possible views.

Stayed here for 6 nights.
When you arrive by ferry, get straight in a taxi as the climb (350 steps) with cases in 30 degree heat is not recommended.

The owner is very friendly, the rooms are spacious (by Greek standards) and the view over the harbour is very special. The linen and rooms are spotlessly clean; although some of the older towels are very thin to the point of being see-though! (The first day we had large new ones, as the week progressed the daily fresh towels got older!).
Breakfast is simple (yogurt & honey, white sliced bread & jam, tinned peaches, two cereals &

undrinkable artificial juice). Boiled eggs & make own tea or coffee. It served its purpose but better juice and bottled water would be nice. The owner often played the Dulcimer at breakfast which was a lovely way to start the day!

The bed was short (I'm only 6 foot) and so the foot board was quite uncomfortable at night. The aircon and wifi worked well. At night it was often very noisy with music at the local taverna going on till 2 in the morning and paper thin walls in the rooms, so you could hear conversations from next door.

There is a handy cafe (Olive tree) next door, do a high quality breakfast (great coffee!) at a price.

The location is difficult unless you are very mobile, lots of climbing to get to the village from the harbour with very few places to sit. There are a couple of nice tavernas (Zoe's) & bars nearby, a supermarket (selling everything that you don't want and nothing you do want!) And bakery opposite.

Taxis are about 5 Euros to town. Hourly busses are reliable and much cheaper. The twice a day walk up the steps, was not a problem for us by the end of the week!

Taxi boats to beaches work very well and all are recommended. In the harbour the Trawler (bottom of the steps) turned out reliably good fish & Greek specialities. Others we tried were quite average but we didn't try them all.

Recommended for the cleanliness, friendly family & spacious rooms.

We stayed at Hotel Fiona for a week and left feeling on top of the world. The hotel is as authentically Greek as you could wish for and the owners and their family are a joy to be with - more like a family home than a hotel. The Kali Strata workout is an added bonus - however much you drink, you work it all off coming home and go back to work pounds lighter! Thank you so much.

We stay at this property in September 2013. The room is quiet spacious with incredible views of the harbor. Now to get there it was a mission. 380 stairs from the harbor. For that you need to be young and feet. We didn't regret it at all. Also the price it was very good. Breakfast is a big disappointment. Don't even bother to spend time for breakfast at the hotel. Very close by is a beautiful traditional old bakery with delicious pies. Try to start your day there.

Hotel Fiona is an authentic, traditional Greek hotel that is sparkling clean with friendly owners. They love their island and are very proud of their small hotel that is perched at the top of the harbor in the village of Chorio ( which is accessible by the local bus for 1.50 euros or taxi, no more than 5 euros ) The rooms are comfortable and the balcony views are nothing short of ' a billion euro view' of the harbour and the surrounding sea views all the way to the Turkish coast. The air conditioning in your room is needed in July and August with intense heat ranging from 35-45 degrees. The buffet type breakfast is taken on the terrace overlooking one of the most spectacular views you will experience in your life time. A sincere, traditional, Greek hotel experience that is sometimes difficult to find in this travel era of package type holidays ! The island of Symi, and this hotel, are treasures !

This modest little hotel is up in the village of Chorio away from the madding crowd in Yialos. While the rooms are basic, they are spotlessly clean and have sufficient space for two adults and luggage. However I would suggest you wouldn't want to stay inside the room when there is a million dollar view from all the balconies. The breakfast is adequate but sitting out on the balcony was fantastic. The owners and staff were very helpful at all times. Some adds say there is wifi in every room, this is not correct, you need to sit out in the court yard to get access. This didn't worry us. Excellent value for money and a great spot to access walks and the restaurants up there are brilliant. Old fashioned greek home cooking everynight and only had to walk no more than a 100 metres at most on each occasion. The location of the hotel is a bit tricky to find at first but everyone knows where it is having been there for many years and it is extremely quiet which is lovely and peaceful. Symi Island is not really the sort of place that you go to stay in a fancy hotel, you got there to enjoy the people, the history and the wonderful beaches and magnificent scenery, so value for money this hotel is an excellent option.

This hotel is at the top of the kali strata which has 384 steps, it therefore has a stunning view of the harbour in Yialos. Breakfast which consisted of cheese, ham, boiled eggs, toast, fruit and home made greek yogurt was filling for us, a family of 3. You sit for breakfast on a balcony overlooking the view. Our daughter who's 15 loves Symi. Wi-fi is in the court yard only but no hardship as you're surrounded by terracota pots and comfortable furniture.
Our bedroom also had the harbour view and was very comfortable. The room had a fridge (very handy for cooling wine & water bought from a supermarket a stones throw away) and air con. We bought sandwiches for our lunch on the beach from the Olive Tree every morning. This cafe is very close to the hotel and also serves english breakfast as well as gorgous cakes & the best cappacino on the island. We had pre-dinner drinks at the Rainbow bar where drinks are reasonably priced and the service is prompt and friendly. Turn right out of the hotel, left onto the kali strata, then first bar you come to. All the local tavernas serve excellent food and are all a few minutes walk.
Chorio is the village on the island and you will see a lot more of greek life up there. This was our fifth time on Symi and our first at Hotel Fiona. We have always stayed somewhere different and they have all been great. Symi is a very safe island and is full of friendly and proud greeks. Michael and Fiona are lovely. We found them courtious and friendly. They hugged us when we left.
Would definitely recommend this hotel.

I am surprised to find so many positive reviews of hotel Fiona....our stay there was just dreadful !
Indeed the hotel has a stunning view, made by nature and not by the owners of Fiona...what they did create and deliver is ALL of the poorest quality in hospitality, kindness, accommodation and "room-equipment" and breakfast......hyper simple rooms, uncomfortable and even if you are fortunate enough to book at an advantageous rate, you pay too much for....definitely NOT recommended.

We stayed three times. The views are indeed spectacular but the rooms are "basic" at best. Breakfast is the surliest and cheapest we've experienced in some 30 years of travel in Greece. The owners are the only managers of Greek hotels who "insist" on not giving you a receipt. Nor are we sure that they give one to the tax authorities. Great location, great views, not so nice people.

I just loved my stay at Hotel Fiona. Fiona and Michael the owners treated us like family. We got to experience Symi hospitality first hand. The views of the harbour are magnificent. The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean. They are airy and are in the traditional decor of Symi. There's a shortcut we found to the harbour to avoid all the steps of the KaliStrata. Being in the village is an opportunity to experience the real Symi, its people, food and escape the hordes of tourists below. The sunset views are a bonus. In the heat of Symi, the breakfasts are just right, not too heavy and yet filling.
Hotel Fiona offers the best of both worlds, the culture of the village of Chorio with its spectacular views, friendly locals and easy access to the harbour.
Thank you to the owners, Fiona and Michael for making our visit so memorable and welcoming.
