We really rated the Kalydna Island a really good value hotel on an interesting island which is set up for tourism but not all about tourism . We travelled with Jet2 and were familiar with transfer from Kos which uses the local ferries either slow or fast . The slow ferry is the less hairy option . That said the transfer is actually pretty simple and all part of the adventure & the magic of Greek island hop. The Kalymnians are friendly & polite - they appear reserved at first but are super friendly when you get to know them but many speak English with links to Florida and Darwin . The island is quietly cosmopolitan with a big influx of the climbing community giving it a youthful vibe too. We had a spacious clean double room with two balconies for four of us. The bathroom was good with a good shower. One balcony having a view of the pool and the other a view of the churchin the hill and a courgette field . Panormos is a residential area . All pretty authentic with some cockerels in the am. The room and bathroom were kept spotless . The kitchenette was pretty basic but adequate to make a coffee or a simple sandwich . There is a big supermarket locally. It’s the AB chain tho’ - which is more of a Greek Waitrose, so not Lidl prices ! There was a little mini mart opposite too . Kalymnos is pretty affluent I was told. The cleaners were so helpful & polite providing towels every day ( thanks Hana! ) . The reception staff and the guys running the bar were friendly&helpful but low key - happily ordering taxis go to next resort Massouri which has a little more going on in terms of restaurant choice and amazing views. The staff are very low key but will sort anything you ask them .Pool ( very deep ) was kept very clean by the staff but be aware that there are insects because of the lovely gardens . Super quiet at night - very quiet hotel with a mix of quiet reserved nationalities of Scandinavian, French/ Belgian and British families or couples . The Kantouni area has some amazing views( the beaches are lovely with clear water but not super sandy ) Massouri and Telendos are amazing. If you love bingo, mini discos, AI and karaoke etc then Kalymnos is not for you ( sorry ! ) but if you like Greek food, chilling by a pool , great scenery, cocktails wearing , flip flops rather than smart heel at sunset kinda of vibe and want “ real “ Greece in a nutshell then Kalymnos is for you and we rated the Kalydna a great option as a hotel base . Thank you for your hospitality Kalydna island. We rated Psris , Kafe & Alaties, la Kambusa , Rita’s and Albus as great places to eat or drink . The Greek night at Norma’s village is good fun too and very authentic with lots of local folk too coming along for a good night with barbecue.

Lovely hotel with very friendly staff. We had an apartment with air con (extra but needed). Beds were very comfortable and shower hot and powerful.Very quiet and everywhere kept very clean.Pool was nice and daily cleaned by Ken the top man. Only bad comment is that not enough sun beds/parasols.However staff have said more are being brought in. Would thoroughly recommend the Kalydna Island for couples but maybe the shallow end of the pool being 5' is not good for young children. Thank you for a great week😎😎😎

We stayed for 9 nights travelling with Jet2. Our room, number97, was on the first floor of the main building on the road side, just a few steps up from reception. Our large balcony overlooked Savoya restaurant courtyard entrance. We had booked a studio for 2 but we were given a room with a kitchen area with 2 in built beds, divided by a curtain from the area with 2 single beds and a table and chairs, the bathroom had a bath with shower over. We were initially a little disappointed as I had emailed the hotel to ask for a ground floor terrace and walk in shower, if possible, however we came to love the room, as there was so much room and a large balcony, which had a small airer attached to the wall. The balcony got the morning sun, so we asked at reception if we could have a parasol to provide some shade so that we could sit out for our morning cuppa, which they quickly arranged. From our vantage point on the balcony we were able to observe the comings and goings in the street. The buses ran regularly past the hotel down to Kantouni beach, before returning. They stopped at Savoya on the way down and directly opposite Savoya on the way back. There was a dive school and bike hire next to Savoya and an ATM in their grounds. There was a minimarket directly opposite the entrance to the hotel, to get cigarettes you need to go to the kiosk up near the roundabout. We ate at Psiris taverna overlooking Kantouni beach and at Savoya, but our favourite taverna and just a couple of minutes to the left of the hotel, was Nikolas taverna (I've reviewed it separately) . It was so hot when we were there that we spent most of our time in and around the hotel, it was very peaceful by the pool, but we walked over to Linaria and had drinks overlooking the sea at Kafes and Alati. It was pretty windy when we there, when we arrived late at night, the ferry was a bit of a white knuckle ride, with an equally hairy taxi transfer with another couple, very cosy and our luggage bungee strapped into the boot. The return transfer was on a coach and we had to get an earlier ferry as there was a threat of cancellation of the later ferry due to the wind.

We had a wonderful stay at Kalydna Hotel and wanted to leave an up to date review as we found the ones on here really helpful. We stayed in a self-catering studio one level up with a large balcony and great view of the pool and gardens. The room was very clean, with a small fridge (plus drawer freezer) in the kitchenette. It came equipped with 2 plates, a set of cutlery, 2 glasses, 2 cups, 1 frying pan, 2 saucepans, a ladle and a wooden spoon. We would recommend taking a chopping knife, board, plastic bowls and bottle opener if you plan on cooking regularly as the only comment would be that the equipment was limited if you actually do want to cook. (We also took a cheese grater and a coffee cup filter)The twin hot plate was efficient. Our balcony was one of the largest and had a table, chairs and parasol (this is where you would eat as there was no table inside the studios, it may be different in the apartments). There was also a handy clothes dryer attached to the wall. Inside the bathroom had a great, powerful shower and we were given complimentary shampoos and shower gels. We were also given a mosquito plug, but took our own too. We paid for air conditioning. We found the staff very helpful and friendly and the hotel and grounds were kept immaculate. The pool was wonderful, and we were in it every day. This was regularly cleaned. Overall we thought this a gem of a hotel, really good value and in an ideal location for exploring, climbing and dining out. The shop opposite, good for water and as others mentioned the larger supermarket up the road was perfect for everything else you need. We had great meals at Nikonas Taverna next door and Savoya, which is just to the left of the hotel. In Mirties we visited Prego, which was great but we would recommend getting there early as it gets very busy! We hired a car with 'Maria' rentals in Pothia which we found we did need to explore properly. Vathis is definitely worth a trip and while there you can hire kayaks to paddle to some remote beaches with Kalymnos Kayak Centre-Waternative- this was a highlight. If you fancy climbing we can recommend climbing guide Fred at Kalymnos Climbing Adventure. We had a lovely time in Kalymnos and it was worth the effort of catching a ferry from Kos.

Myself and my boyfriend have just returned from 14 days in Kalydna Island Hotel, staying self catering. I have been travelling to Greece and the islands since I was a child, and I have stayed in many types of self catering apartments/studios etc, so this review is from the perspective of someone who is used to the standards of self catering accommodation in Greece. We had such a fantastic stay at this hotel - we arrived late afternoon and were told at reception we were being upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment (we had booked a garden view studio sleeping 2) as we were staying for 2 weeks. The room we had was tucked away in a quiet corner, with a view of the lovely gardens and fruit trees from the terrace. The room was very spacious for the two of us, and was perhaps one of the nearly refurbished ones (I understand they are currently refurbishing the rooms one by one) - the furniture and bathroom was modern by Greek apartment standards, and it was very clean when we arrived. There was a mosquito repellant plug and tablets provided for us to use (never had this provided anywhere before) which was definitely needed - I’ve never had so many mosquito bites as I had in my two weeks in Kalymnos!!! There were also complimentary shower gels and shampoos and soap bars in the bathroom. The bedroom had a hairdryer, dressing table, 2 huge wardrobes, and a TV. The kitchen had a hob and a kettle, with various other kitchen utensils as well as mugs/cutlery, crockery etc. The only extra thing I would have liked would have been washing up liquid and a sponge, but these were both easy/cheap enough to buy ourselves. The hotel offers typical continental breakfast between 8:30 and 10 but we did not have this as part of our booking, although we could have chosen to add it if we had wanted. We did receive a complimentary plate of breakfast cake and watermelon one morning which was very nice and unexpected! We paid for the air conditioning after two nights as it was just so hot neither of us were sleeping - it cost 6€ per day, although when we checked out and paid the lovely lady on reception only charged us 5€ per day. The pool was incredibly quiet during our stay, I think the hotel generally was not occupied anywhere fully, which suited us perfectly fine! We spent a lot of days sitting on the loungers by the pool, enjoying the garden surrounds and the peace and quiet. The pool is huge and incredibly deep, with no “shallow end” to speak of. I am 5ft 9 and when I got into the shallowest part, standing on my tip toes, it was up to my neck! But it was a lovely clean pool, and part of it is nicely shaded for some of the day by the big tree at one end. The plants and flowers around the pool as well as the traditional style buildings really make it a nice relaxing space. The pool bar was not manned during our stay but if we wanted anything, there was usually someone in reception and they were happy to make us a drink - we only ever ordered frappes though, so cannot comment on alcohol availability! There is free wifi available around the pool and in the reception/breakfast area, and in my experience it worked fine. It did not stretch to our room however. If you had one of the rooms closer to the main building you may be ok. There is a small supermarket across the road from the hotel selling necessities, water, snacks etc. There is a bigger (huge!!) supermarket about a 10-15 minute walk away, up a path opposite the bus stop, which isn’t immediately obvious. Definitely worth visiting if you are self catering. The bus stop mentioned above is about 10 minutes walk away, and you can get to Pothia, Massouri, Mirties and Emborio etc from here. It is not a particularly regular or reliable service, but we used it successfully a number of times. It is cheap, with services to Pothia being 1.50€ each, Massouri 1€ and Emborio 3€ each. The timetable is clearly displayed in the hotel reception. There are several restaurants/bars in the surrounding area within walking distance but you do have to walk a little bit and go up and down a few less obvious paths/roads to find them. Not everything was open due to Covid, unfortunately. Overall, we loved our stay in Kalydna Island hotel, it was the perfect location for us as we don’t like noisy places or hustle bustle, and it was very quiet and peaceful. It was our first time in Kalymnos and we found it a good location to be based. We found the staff to be very friendly and polite, always saying hello and chatting with us. We felt very “covid safe” staying here, as the staff always wore face coverings and there was hand sanitiser at the reception and in other places in communal areas. We would definitely stay again when we come back to Kalymnos!

This hotel is NOT a 4 Star hotel, obviously the 4 stars are self awarded! They give the game away actually,as a sign at reception has 3 stars, although other marketing materials claim 4 stars,in their dreams! 4 star hotels have a restaurant, room service,a functioning bar etc. After much cajoling over 3 days their so called bar eventually were able to supply me with a gin & tonic, before that only beer and the bar was never manned. The hotel itself is in dire need of a general refurbishment, rooms and common areas are dirty and shabby. Saving graces: A wonderful pool and courtyard area, although beware the shallow end is over 5ft deep! Also the staff were helpful and friendly. Need to do the refurbishment before I would go back.

Perfect hotel and hospitality Great atmosphere, peaceful and idyllic surroundings and impeccable service from the hotel staff. My sister and I were here 14 days from August 23rd. You can't find better hotel to spend your days in Kalymnos. Greek hospitality, perfect cleaning of the room from the smiling room girls and both the hotel manager and staff gave us the feeling of being especially welcomed. A full and tasty breakfast buffet awaited each morning between 8 and 10. After a long and good swim in the pool, the food always tasted superb. Georgos became a good friend of mine along with all the others in the hotel staff. The departure felt like I was leaving my own family.🇬🇷💙🇬🇷

Me and my boyfriend stayed a week at this fantastic hotel. The room was very nice and clean, bed really comfortable. The staff at the hotel was always so friendly and helpful! The pool was good and were cleaned every day at the same time they cleaned the whole outside area. Good breakfast as well! In the reception, a good WiFi connection. In the area of the hotel, there is a mini marked and good restaurants and beaches. So if you are looking for a relaxing atmosphere for your holiday, this is most recommendable 😊👍
