This was the worst experience we have ever had at a hotel. When we first arrived the owner, Effie, was extremely nice, but the first night my husband was awakened at 1:30 with bugs crawling all over him in the bed. I gave him mine and went to sleeper sofa with my daughter. At 4:15 he was awakened again with more bugs. the 3 of us finished the night sitting up on sofa, no sleep. When told of this, Effie became very defensive, wanted to just spray the room. We told her we needed a new room and she finally relented. Next room was fine but she was very unfriendly and cold. We saw men going in the 1st room later that day with Hazmat suits on to spray--glad we weren't sleeping there! The next morning when I went to check out, she charged us 130Euro per night (notice price quoted in other reviews!) I asked if she was charging us full price for the 1st night and she again was very cold and said "you stay 2 nights, you pay 2 nights". I again explained how although we were there, we didn't sleep due to the ants and bugs (showed her pictures) and she she just said "2 nights". She had my credit card so I had no other recourse but to tell her that I had hoped she would do the right thing and at least discount the 1st night. She just glared at me. Imagine my surprise to see the price should have been 90 Euros a night! Too bad because it was a nice looking place, but I would NEVER stay here again. Totally ruined our trip to Naxos and our previous trust of the Greek people there.

This hotel is wonderful. The rooms are tastefully decorated, the property is very nice, with a lovely swimming pool and breakfast area next to the pool, and the beautiful Plaka Beach is a three-minute walk from the hotel. We enjoyed spending time on the balcony, which had a nice sea view. We also took long walks on the beach (the nicest we have ever seen) and tried out some of the many restaurants along the (dirt) road which runs next to the beach. The sunsets from the restaurant terraces were beautiful. We specially liked the food at Yazoo and Picasso. It was also practical to go into Chora by bus, which runs every 30 minutes and has a stop right at the beach in front of the hotel. We would highly recommend this ideal vacation setting.

Have just returned from two weeks at the Villa Romantica on Naxos - what a wonderful experience. Effie and Georgio are the such great hosts nothing is too much trouble - the breakfast is superb - the accommodation first class the location ideal - would we return - in a heartbeat. A truly wonderful holiday.

Villa Romantica is a small establishment, where you feel at home rather than lost in the corridors of some monstrous, large hotel. Our apartment had two balconies overlooking the breakfast and pool area. The pool is great and rarely crowded, except by Efi's (the friendly hostess's) daughter Elidibi, who will charm you with her antics and her scatterings of various languages. Room and bed very comfortable, breakfast excellent. And the beach is a 3-minute walk away. For meals, we ate them all at the Paradiso Taverna and loved it. Only 2 negative nits: (1) The place is hard to find as it is badly marked. If you come by car, drive south from Xora to Agio Anna and then left along the beach. Maybe 100 meters after the pavement ends, you come to the Paradiso Taverna. Two big apartment complexes farther, turn left just BEFORE Yazoo. (2) Plaka Beach is special. On the shore there is nice fine sand. But once you get a meter into the water, it turns into tiny stones and you sink in up quite a ways. I found disturbing, but it is clearly not dangerous. Villa Romantica is highly recommended anyway.
