3’ minutes by car to Chora, 20 minutes walking which I don’t recommend mostly because if you return by night is very dark and there is no sidewalk. On the way it is a little bit hard if it is warm.
They have rental cars available at the hotel for about €45.
Breakfast is OK nothing special.
The hotel is built on a hill so be prepared to walk up and down to go to the reception and the parking area. It is very steep and not suitable for people with mobility problems.
Go to the hotel and this fantastic island before it gets spoilt its just breathtaking.
We've just ended a fantastic trip to Greece. Unfortunately we booked for 4 nights at Apollon - although we stayed only 1 night once we saw the conditions. Our main issues was not the lack of internet connection, lack of spoken English and not even lack of TV (during Olympics) but rather the advertised "sparkling beach" which was (as of August 5th 2012) full of naked trustfarians camping, cooking and doing other needs all on the same beach below the hotel. We attempted to go to several other beaches but the experience was the same: some have even had some shacks being built on the sand. Following our complaint after 1 night to the Apollon owner (who doesn't not speak English and does not show up at reception until 5PM) we asked that we leave the premises and take the boat back to Santorini. She agreed but only if we would pay for 3 nights - "as that's what's written in the contract". We did, as it was simply unbearable to have to deal with her and be surrounded by 47 tents and campers.
The island is pretty and the location decent but you must climb up and down 10 minutes to a beach with 47 tents and find a place to put a towel between them. Alternatively walk 20 minutes to an even campier beach with even more "hippies" some sporting Rolex watches and smoking dope.
If you want to have such experiences by all means you should go camping as it is free and you wont have to deal with a stubborn nasty owner trying to exhort you of 80 Euros per day for a studio in the middle of nowhere.
Your call.
We definitely recommend the island of Anafi though, which was little-cute, not expensive, with many and excellent beaches and perfect food , quite, with fine residents .
The manager of the hotel doesn't speak Englisk and requires all the time the help of her assistant, who is overbooked.
In our studio, the bed was hard, the household appliance quality was average.
Be careful because all he rooms proposed in this hotel are not all featured and advertised on the hotel website. So it is better to choose the ones that are shown if you don't want to have some surprises and get an old room uncomfortable belonging to the oldest part of the hotel complex down on the slope.
The hotel is isolated: it is located far out of hora and the port. and it is spread on a very steep hill, which goes down to the Klissidi beach; for all activities you need to walk, climb a lot even if you can take a rare bus to go to Hora or to the port, thanks to a stop situated close to the reception of the hotel. The restaurants in hora are not of the best quality, except the one down to To Steki, which doesn't look like a taverna. You can also have a snack at the restaurant down on the hill, on the right side of Klissidi beach.
I have a cardiac problem , so we elected to hire a car (27 Euros a day) which was a good plan . The small town of Chora is a good 30 minutes walk (uphill) or a 4 minute drive.
We drove to all the parts of the island and , apart from a monastery , there is very little to see.Ideal holiday to chill out in peace and quiet.
"Ask for the rooms where located very close to the beach at the last level of hotel(110)"Read full review
